O yea btw the reason all the robots here rn use she/her is because it’s like a status thing. Mechanicals start out genderless and then decide what they wanna be referred to as they come into themselves

The lower levels there are the more non binary/female mechanicals you’ll find but the higher up you go the more mechanicals you’ll see that are male that’s because they were made to be respected and listened to (sorry there’s sexism in this </3). And also because they’re “so rare” everywhere else so they get used as diversity hires more frequently lmao

Making more lore. Just stuff abt the people and the levels of the city (:

It’s 2859! Technology has progressed and so has city building. What was the crust of the earth is now the lowest layer in [city name]. Skyscrapers now tower high above the atmosphere. connected parking garages, bridges, roofs, etc from lower levels make up streets that people walk on in their daily lives, making a sort of tiered cake built out of concrete and rebar

Aside from the architecture, people have changed too! Robots/mechanical people now pepper the crowded streets, getting more frequent the lower in levels you go. The higher the level the more human these mechanicals get, trying to blend in more appearing more human as a sign of having higher status. Needing less air and resources it only seemed logical to put mechanicals in places needing less of it. Because in the past machines were used in factories and jobs in general, that sentiment is used here now, and there’s constant want for mechanicals in the work force.

With how vague the legality of humanity is with these mechanicals, it’s difficult for them to get rights and respect from their more human fellow citizens, usually seen as machines and less human theres a Lot of crimes committed against them including being attacked and scrapped for parts, or kidnapped and “lobotomized” to be used as machines*.

*note the use of mechanicals being different than machines. Machines are non sentient mechanicals. Mechanicals are sentient machines. What gives them sentience is some bullshit Doctor did I haven’t worked that out but they’re different

Lobotomized in this case is used as a total shut down of the personality of the mechanical. Reverting it into a machine. Because mechanicals (usually) don’t have brains there isn’t anything to surgically shut off. Mechanicals anatomy is VERY different than machines and humans
