...what is the "sex is just rock climbing" category
It was kind of a joke between me and a friend ("you wouldn't judge someone for having gone rock climbing with a bunch of different people") but honestly the more I thought about it the more I bought into it unironically because:
It is a physical activity done with one or more partners
You should only go rock climbing with people you trust to not let you fall
You should not go rock climbing with someone who is drunk or currently incapable of rational decision-making
Some people get super super super into rock climbing and do not shut up about all the places they have climbed and how many are left on their bucket list and these people are usually men between the ages of 20 and 35 and like it's fine dude I'm glad you're happy but I don't know what most of those mountains even are
While many consider it a fun activity, pressuring someone into climbing when they don't want to (or ignoring their feelings and just dangling them off a cliff,) could cause both psychological and physical trauma
There is no moral value to it whatsoever. Who you have gone rock climbing with (or whether you have rock climbed at all) has no bearing on who you are as a person. Imagine telling someone "it's not that heights make you nauseous, it's just that you haven't found the right person to belay you!" or "you need to save your first time rock climbing for someone special." That would be absurd.
For some people it is a deep and moving personal experience.
historically I have not asked myself "will this aggravate my hip flexor injury" before participating when perhaps I should have 😔

Pt. 2 of Mass Effect things that are so fucking funny, imagine you're a Krogan chillin on Tuchanka feelin' good about yourself when a sentient bag of water walks in with the Krogan equivalent of a living Barbie doll, high fives the president, bitch slaps a foreign dignitary, kills a demigod, and then leaves without any further explanation

Netflix: "Shows about Friendship: Cowboy Bebop." Literally only in the sense that if they'd been friends the anime wouldn't have gone that way.

I can conclusively say that the French put the mimes there.
It's about grief. It's about letting go. It's about fighting on. It's about family. It's about the existential horror of mimes.
It's about escapism. It's about surviving despite it all. It's about the wonder of the world even in darkness. It's about mimes beating the shit out of you.
It's about love. It's about heartbreak. It's about who the fuck put all those mimes here

The legal rights being described (generally and too my knowledge) are contracts that adults should be able to enter into and able to share with the specific people they choose.
A lot of the time, people are talking about medical benefits and being able to share those with a spouse, particularly after the AIDs epidemic where people often weren't allowed to stay with their partner in the hospital.
Yes, the final boss is the idea of the healthcare system, but until we get that straightened out it's good that people can share their benefits, it's good that they can choose to share those benefits, and it's good that if they do choose to share those benefits the person on the receiving end must be an adult who can enter that contract and that there are legal protections that try to keep that contract from becoming a noose.
I feel like a romantic union shouldn't be required or even implied, obviously, romantic unions aren't important to everyone and shouldn't be elevated that way.
I DO feel like having a term that says "this is my person, I am their person, for many things--esp financial and medical--we have decided to be one person," and have that term respected by the powers that be is extremely useful.
"marriage is the ONLY way to get these protections" "there is NO WAY to hack a legal arrangement to cover everything that marriage grants" "kiddos you don't remember what it was like before we could get married, we finally got rights because we could get married" Okay But You Recognize Why That's Bad, Right. Like that is really, really bad that you have to enter a specific type of relationship to get legal rights. That is A Problem. You recognize that that is Not A Good Thing, Right

Sometimes it's 3 am and you get inexplicably sad that you're too bad at social media to get canceled on Twitter over the main character of your Dark Fantasy novel.
Also the book won't be out til next year and twitter probably won't exist by then
