There are some memories that I have that make me want to shrivel up and turn myself into a mushroom and never revert back, just so that I don’t have to go thru the daily embarrassment of remembering them.
The most recent one being the time that I forgot to mute my zoom meeting and accidentally called an upcoming project (among other things) stupid.
And yes, everyone heard, including the teacher.
Upon realizing this, I felt my heart stop for a solid five beats. I apologized at the speed of someone was experiencing True Panic. My stomach dropped faster than-
This experience shortened my lifespan by about 27 years, and made me seriously contemplate launching myself off of the roof of my apartment complex. It’s still haunting me. I want to disentegrate every time I remember it. I hope i never have to see that teacher again.

I made a terrible connection.
So we all know how Gon lost his nen from the restriction/covenant thing from fighting Neferpitou.
In Avatar the Last Airbender, when Aang sealed off his chakra via Azula’s lightning, and got it back from a very lucky hit to the back during the final fight with Ozai.
We also know that Hisoka was the one to nen-initiate Kastro. Since Kastro doesn’t have a noticeable physical deformation (and Wing said that if someone was initiated via malicious intent, they would get hurt or changed somehow), it’s relatively safe to assume that Hisoka didn’t actually try to hurt Kastro, instead just saw his potential and wanted to fight with him later.
Now, we also know that during the Succession War Arc, the Phantom Troupe is looking for Hisoka and is having a terrible time trying to find him. Hisoka also hasn’t shown his face after the Heavens Arena fight, after killing Shalnark and Kortopi. It’s hinted that he’s on the boat, but there hasn’t been any confirmation.
During all this, Gon is doing homework on Whale Island and just wants to get his nen back, and Killua and Alluka are completely out of the picture.
So this brings me to remember the Hisoka/Gon fight in Heavens Arena- Hisoka probably still wants to fight Gon. Gon thinks that he’s too useless to help his father, and probably isn’t able to seek out Killua so he’s forced to try to get his nen back himself. It also makes me think that Hisoka is
skilled enough in nen to awaken it in someone else without hurting the someone else
Bored af (either healing on the ship after getting most of him burnt up or blown off, or healing somewhere else)
Because think about it. There isn’t really any interesting thing that can go down on the Black Whale, and until the succession war is over or they hit land, nobody on that ship is going anywhere. Hisoka is not in much shape to be able to fight any of the troupe members- he got Machi out of pure surprise, and Kortopi and Shalnark didn’t have their nen. Kortopi is quite weak, and Shalnark was blinded with rage.
RIP to both of them.
Anywho, who knows what Hisoka is actually planning?
This brings me back to the Hisoka vs. Gon fight at Heavens Arena- there was a part that was somewhat highlighted when Gon gets absolutely slammed in the back by Hisoka, and this reminded me of the ATLA rock chiropractor moment when Aang gets his chakras back into balance.
Yes, I know this is different, but the application is quite similar.
In the Chimera Ant arc, Rammot was shown to be hitting each of the Ants with a nen strike, and activating their nen via that method. Since these are Ants, they are much stronger than humans and probably didn’t sustain much physical deformity from the rough initiation.
Despite the underground nature of the Nen Hit Activation method (name coined by me), it seems to be pretty popular in Hunter x Hunter, as it’s also used by Kurapika in a way, by giving each of the bodyguards on the boat nen abilities in order to forcefully wake them up.
Second TL;DR: Hisoka’s whereabouts are unconfirmed, Gon wants his nen back, and the Nen Hit Activation method seems to be relatively popular and safe-ish.
Now, my theory. Hisoka isn’t on the Black Whale, and is instead on a different whale- Whale Island. Looking for Gon, who is doing his hw and being bored and trying to reactivate his nen.
What if Hisoka tries to forcefully ‘help’ Gon get his nen back? We see that the body slam activation method works, and that Hisoka is proficient in using that (ex. Kastro). Gon is willing to do almost anything for something he’s set his mind to (ex. the Neferpitou thing).
Who’s to say they don’t accidentally cross paths and do that?
Initially, I brought up ATLA bc of the back-slam-to-opened-chakra moment, but we know that a similar moment would be feasible and/or could work.
There’s an easy explanation as to why this could work.
we know Gon is a stubborn kid. If Hisoka pops up out of nowhere, there’s still a solid chance that Gon will try to fight him.
Say that they do fight, even with nenless Gon there’s going to be shared punches- and at least one of them will land with Hisoka’s Bungee Gum and Gon’s sheer willpower.
That could easily be enough to reawaken Gon- mid battle.
* So then it goes a couple ways:
he Jajanken‘s Hisoka’s ass, since he’s already got the training and the muscle memory, potentially causing Hisoka to go kaput
Hisoka gets a lil too excited and Gon goes kaput
they stop fighting and go their separate ways to fight again sometime
So is it very unfeasible? Yeah. Could it happen? also yeah. Did I make this theory at 2am? you guessed it!
