Kitcho By Ajiichiban

And so our journey continues...
We arrived at Kitcho Greenwich on a Friday night at 8pm and the restaurant was full but not packed (phew) which felt very nice. We were seated at a small table next to the bar, right at the entrance. At first we thought it might not be comfortable as it is in the heart of this little family run restaurant but found out we had first row seats to great people and service watching.
... but lets get down to business, we are here for the sushi!

The menu is not too extensive and had many other options besides sushi, like ramen, but we concentrated on the sushi. There were not many options in the combination section but the those offered were quite enough and the prices were reasonable. There was a solid selection of starters and extra rolls.
Unfortunately they were less accommodating when it came to making any changes to the combinations or rolls... though we did eventually convinced them to change one of our nigiri which had prawn to a tuna instead.

Our starter dish: Tofu Steak -  Tofu with Teriyaki Sauce £ 5.50
Not only beautifully presented but also very well done. The tofu melts exactly the way I wanted it to. It came with the delicious homemade teriyaki sauce. This was a wonderful start.

To our main course: The combination included Tuna, salmon, sea bass sashimi
Combination platter with some of our additions such as:
Ikura -  Salmon Roe  £ 2.50 Tamago - Egg  £ 1.40
Negi Toro Temaki -  Fatty Tuna Hand Roll £ 5.90
Spicy Tuna Temaki - Tuna and spring onion  £ 3.90
Sake Temaki -  Salmon Hand Roll £ 2.90
The thing that stood up immediately was the freshness of the fish which made the food so much more enjoyable. Though we weren't sold on the fatty tuna that was recommended, rest was great.

Overall this was a good experience, the service could have been bit quicker and we would have loved to to have had more freedom with combinations and maki combos but with reasonable prices and good and fresh food this is a really nice place to visit.

Sticks N Sushi
Our first stop on this journey was Sticks N Sushi at the Canary Wharf location. We had an hour and change break in between 2 movies we were watching and Sticks N Sushi was just a 7 minute walking distance from the theatre.
Tumblr media
Let’s start with the ambiance This place was sleek and modern. It was clean and smelled wonderfully from lemongrass. The tables had black leather tapestry and the feel was very inviting. The experience continued with a warm wet towel with lemongrass scent to clean our hands. It continued with a very attentive staff and delicious food.
The menu came in the form of a “Photo Album” with, yes, pictures of the food. But in a laminated-dinner-like manner. It actually was a nice touch.
The staff was attentive and the service was spot-on. Our waitress was lovely, bubbly (but not annoying), and very helpful in navigating the extensive menu with us.
Nir has a gluten intolerance and we always have to watch what he eats and we both do not eat sea-food. Not for any reason other than we just don’t like it. With all this in mid, we always pose somewhat of a challenge in restaurants and our waitress did a great job accommodating for all of our requests/changes to the dish.

We ordered the:
TABLE FOR 2 / SUSHI | menu Nigiri: Salmon, tuna, shrimp, salmon New York, inari and sea bass Maki: Pink Alaska, spicy tuna and gypsy roll £ 45
We substituted the shrimp nigiri with tuna in this combination option.
And another Shiitake mushroom Maki roll which is not on the menu- we had it substituted from the regular avocado roll.
Each individual substitution was 50p

Shiitake mushroom Maki - Nir’s favorite roll which he attempts to order every time

Inari- deep fried tofu filled with rice

Nigiri: Salmon, tuna, sea bass, and NY salmon- which had garlic- amazballs!

Empty plates and full tummies.
We talked about the place, the service, and the menu. Now we have the price and actual food to discuss.
The price for 2 people excluding tip was about £50. The main combination we ordered was £45 which is on the higher end of appropriate for this dish. However, every substitute costing addition 50p was a bit overkill since the overall price was relatively high especially in the  Shiitake roll situation and charging each (2 total) tuna nigiri which were swapped from shrimp.
Overall, the place was beautiful and clean, the service was lovely and accommodating, and the fish was fresh. We loved the experience and will definitely return there.

The bathroom door sign was kinda cool so we took a photo of that as well :)

A Challenge is born
Tumblr media
At the end of July 2016 Alisa had finally moved to London to join Nir and start their mutual lives together. Alisa has been in living in Philadelphia, PA for the past 5 years and had a few favorite, delicious, not too expensive sushi places. Since the move Nir and Alisa have been on the search for some all together great places for sushi that would affordable and delicious.
This is our story. We hope you enjoy it!
The first few places we came across were the obvious, center city, store on every street corner- Wasabi. The sushi comes in pairs in a pre-packaged bag or in a pre-packaged assortment box. Something about “sushi in a bag” was just not right.. the assortments were highly inflexible and most contained prawn or crab which we both don’t eat.
The next few places we encountered were “take-out” only places without an actual restaurant seating and an overall “take your sushi and leave” attitude..
In a desperate last attempt we decided to try a new sushi place (as often as we can) in the search of this city’s best spots. We are hoping to find good quality but not over-priced, amazing service but not too “posh”, and all in all delicious sushi.
