With the construction of the Perseus finally complete, waves of opportunity sweep through everyone's hearts. The wind whips through the sails. Senku stands at the aftmost deck, watching the island shrink into nothing but a speck on the horizon. It shouldn't be anything too incredible to someone from the modern world. Still, he feels a surge of pride, amazement, and maybe even hope.

This endeavor is unveiling something to him. Maybe it's just the fresh air and sun, or maybe it's the high of the accomplishment after a year of working on the ship. Maybe it's the excitement in Chrome's eyes or the Captain's expressive delight in each of his boisterous remarks or the way Kohaku climbs up to the crow's nest with her unbridled vigor. But one thing is certain.

There is no star in the sky and no point on the sea that Senku can't reach. Not one.

Senku is always wondering. That's how the scientific brain works. And when he sits in the observatory to look up at the night sky, stars gazing back at him, blinking with equal curiosity, his wondering grows to unimaginable volumes.

He wonders how much time he has.

He wonders how far away each star really is from his grasp. Even the ones that appear closer, the ones that shine brighter than the rest.

He wonders what it would be like if the brightest star were still in his hands.

The answer to that one is stupidly obvious. If Byakuya were still around, his progress would be cut short. He'd have no chance in hell of beating Tsukasa, not without Ishigami Village. He'd probably be just as dead as his old man is now.

This is the only way for civilization to really be revived, and Senku didn't really get to choose. That's just how it played out.

Still.

Against all logic, his chest aches. When he looks at the telescope, at the moon, at the deep midnight sky, he feels a pain that sulfa drugs could never cure.

The moon calls to him, her hand outstretched as he looks up at her through his tears. Her voice is all too familiar. He has to heed that call if it's the last thing he does.

Oh they’re beautiful! They come in all sorts of colors too and they’re all so pretty.. my personal favorite is pink! (Shocker amiright) it’s cause of heliotropism that they follow the suns movement.

The petals are so soft.. and nice.. hehe.. Dr. Xeno let me keep a few at his base so thank you for that :3
