I’m still thinking about how Varric’s 1/4 model and all his subsequent scaled models add up to him be 5’3 (160.02cm).

Meanwhile there is lore from the tabletop that says mabari are as tall and wide as a dwarf. So…your war hound could be 5’3. Enjoy.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year, I hope you all had a good one and that you make strides to achieve any goals you set.

This is just a reminder that I will be moving blogs later this month. I'm working out some coding things and getting everything nice and prepped. I plan on keeping this blog functional after the move so you can find anything that I have shared here. But I will be posting reminders that I've moved as well as links to the new blog post move just in case.

I look forward to sharing all the projects I've been holding on to, and I thank you all for the support you've shown me thus far.

The Warden and The Inquisitor both went through "the heros journey" ie the place they are now too big to return to their place of origin. They don't belong there anymore, and with some backstories this is freeing and for others it is tragic (the Dalish origins for certain make me weepy). Frodo doesn't feel at home in the Shire anymore etc

BUT HAWKE?? at least the way I play Hawke (Andermance pro-mage apostate Hawke)??? This motherfucker is like oh thank god we'll end up back in Ferelden. Kirkwall was killing Hawke. Like he loves his friends. And his friends are in Kirkwall. But Kirkwall was killing hawke-- hell, Kirkwall could be corrupting Hawke depending on the play style. I think even with the rebellion ahead of them Hawke would breathe a huge sigh of relief as soon as they hit Fereldan soil but thats just me.

I recently heard the banter between Alistair and Leliana regarding the Ferelden stew he made and I couldn't get the image of him cooking for the party out of my head 🥰

If one more person says that Sera would have made more sense in da2 I'm going to scream. No. She wouldn't. What you mean is that Sera THE CHARACTER would have had a better time within the da2 friendship group. What you do NOT mean is that she would have made more sense in da2.

Sera is vital to inquisition for multiple reasons.

Firstly, she is literally "the little guy". She keeps you and your lofty organisation with big religious themes tied to the "ordinary folk" through her priorities and her world view. In the Dragon Age game in which you are in danger of skipping out normal connections, she forces you to remember.

Secondly, she is the light-heartedness dai needs. Da2 has plenty of light-hearted fun moments but dais tone is way more serious. Sera is pranks, she's jokes about genitals, she makes you laugh and adds some light to your life in dai.

Thirdly, Sera fits the general theming of all the dai characters which is "uncertainty in ones identity". Her internalised racism exists in tandem with an overarching theme about not fitting with who you are; Blackwall, Bull, Cole, Viv, Leliana, Solas, Dorian, Cullen and to a lesser extent Cole, Cassandra, Josie and Varric are all struggling with who they are and what it means to be who they are in the face of identities they can't escape/are forced on them. That isn't a theme of da2. It's a theme of dai.

And just. I see this take everywhere. And yes, Sera would probably have had more fun hanging with Isabela and Fenris and a younger Varric. But she would not have made more sense in da2. She is a dai character through and through and vital to the story dai wants to tell.
