2 Spirit Dream Catcher Dot Com by Theo Jean Cuthand
“2 Spirit Dreamcatcher Dot Com queers and indigenizes traditional dating site advertisements. Using a Butch NDN "lavalife" lady (performed by director Thirza Cuthand), 2 Spirit Dreamcatcher Dot Com seduces the viewer into 2 Spirit "snagging and shacking up" with suggestions of nearby pipeline protests to take your date to, and helpful elders who will matchmake you and tell off disrespectful suitors. It's the culturally appropriate website all single 2 Spirit people wish existed. Following up on her video "2 Spirit Introductory Special $19.99," this work examines the forces of capitalism through envisioning a "financially unfeasible" service for a small minority community.”
Reclamation by Theo Jean Cuthand
“After white people leave Earth en masse for Mars, the Indigenous people left behind contemplate their place in healing the world and what happens next.

Today felt like a gut punch. A woman from the Pueblo of Pojoaque, one of the 23 reservations here in New Mexico went missing, as unfortunately many Native women do. I share her missing poster, and check the comments to see if there’s any additional information and I see this.

The visceral reaction I had, the drop in my stomach. The slap in the face of “oh right these issues go hand in hand.” The Native Woman’s experience is being cautious, never going out alone, sharing locations with family members at all times. And now there’s an extra layer to be afraid of. That we could be detained on our own lands and no one ever knowing what has happened to us. That our government can add us to an MMIW database meanwhile we could be held at a Government level detainment camp.

Her name is Eliana Savannah Critzer, she’s 5’2”, 90lbs and was last seen in a black jacket, blue jeans, and white shoes, and she needs to come home safe.

you cannot talk about the homophobic murder of jonathan joss without including in the conversation that he is indigenous.
american indian men are at the 2nd highest risk of death by murder compared to all other ethnic groups. in their lifetimes, 82% of native men report having experienced domestic violence. yet the overwhelming majority of perpetrators are non-natives (88% of native men and 92% of native women who reported violence said their attacker was non-native). what’s more, tribal governments are often stymied in their attempts to bring justice against non-natives, meaning that many of these cases go unresolved.
this was an intersectional attack. the fact that he is indigenous matters, even if the motivation was homophobic, because it made him even more vulnerable and disposable in the eyes of his killer.
as always, look into MMIWP to learn more, and speak up for us. miigwetch, take care

We are heartbroken to share the tragic news of the death of Jonathan Joss—beloved actor, artist, and gay icon—who was fatally shot on June 1, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas. He was 59 years old. Authorities are investigating the possibility of a hate crime.
Jonathan, of Comanche and White Mountain Apache heritage, rose to fame as the voice of John Redcorn on King of the Hill and appeared in acclaimed films such as The Magnificent Seven and True Grit. Beyond his screen work, he was a tireless advocate for Native sovereignty, queer visibility, and authentic representation.
In recent years, Jonathan came out publicly as a gay man and remained fiercely proud of both his Indigenous and queer identities. He is survived by his husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, with whom he shared a life rooted in love, art, and community.
Jonathan’s legacy is one of courage, truth, and unapologetic presence. His impact on two-spirit and LGBTQ+ Indigenous youth—and on all of us who saw ourselves in his work—cannot be overstated.
We mourn his loss. We honor his voice. We demand justice. Rest in power, Jonathan Joss. You are remembered. You are loved.
#So few Indigenous actors become household names and fewer still are out publicly just a huge loss- sending so much love to his family#Jonathan Joss

After a 12-hour drive from Flagstaff, Arizona, my grandparents — Maryetta and Henry Jackson — and I arrived in San Jose, California, to attend the Stanford University Powwow. We checked into a Marriott Aloft hotel, parked in a well-lit lot, had dinner nearby, and went to bed believing everything was secure. But the next morning, we woke up and our trailer had been broken into, and everything was gone.
Over $175,000 to $300,000 worth of handcrafted Native American jewelry — representing generations of work, tradition, and craftsmanship — was stolen. Each piece was created by our family, using skills passed down since my grandparents started this business in 1972. This isn’t just a business — it’s our heritage, our livelihood, and our way of life.
This loss is not just financial — it’s deeply personal. Without their inventory, they have nothing to sell, no way to recoup their costs, and no means to continue the business in the short term.
We are working with authorities and our insurance, but we don't know how long the process will take. That’s why we’re humbly asking for your help.
We’ve launched this GoFundMe to:
- Help cover immediate living expenses
- Fund the travel and recovery costs of this trip
- Replace tools, raw materials, and display equipment
- Rebuild the foundation of our business and start again
If you’ve seen any jewelry with these markings, please contact us or the San Jose Police Department:
- Diné (our tribal affiliation)
- Sterling (metal identifier)
- Our hallmark: a conjoined HJ, with the “J” joined to the right side of the “H”
We’re offering a reward for any information that helps recover our stolen work or leads to an arrest.
Thank you for reading, sharing, and standing with our family. With your help, we will rebuild.
— The Jackson Family

On November 7, 2024, Denmark used a racist, culturally biased "parenting competency" test to remove a 2 hour old baby, Zammi, from her loving indigenous Greenlandic Inuit mother, Keira, because her native language, which uses minute facial expressions to communicate, will not be able to "[prepare] the child for the social expectations and codes that are necessary to navigate in Danish society." This test had been recommended not to be used at the federal level before this happened but certain municipalities, including the one this happened in, chose to continue to use it regardless. Not only is this blatantly racist but also violates multiple declarations and conventions that Denmark has signed that protect the rights of indigenous people.
Please sign this petition to help Keira to get her baby back.
***As of March 31, 2025, Keira's petition has reached 50k signatures!!!! Thank you all so much for supporting this cause. I am neither Greenlandic nor Danish but this case has really touched my heart and I wanted to do everything I could to help. And while tumblr isn't responsible for all of the signatures, I know we played a huge role in helping Keira reach her goal. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! And please go follow paninng.uaq on Insta — she has been my main source regarding all of this and she just seems like a wonderful human!***

You can read a little bit more about them in Old Indian trails; incidents of camp and trail life, covering two years exploration through the Rocky Mountains of Canada (chapter 11 p 164-184) though keep in mind this is from author Mary Schäffers perspective...
wheres the smiling blackfoot family i want to see the smiling blackfoot family
#Samson Beaver#Leah Beaver#Frances Louise#Nakoda#Îyârhe Nakoda#Stoney First Nation#1907#photography#the visual history of the iconography of what defines an “indian” is really interesting to me in part because it's been#so heavily reinforced through generations of colonizing that claims to know our communities intimately and yet can't empathize#with us as people. can't conceptualize beyond a made up phantom they are desperate to replicate given any chance across time & media
