Besides, writing is a kind of art, too, so it totally belongs on my art blog. Heck, I've been poking around in a DAW recently, so who knows, I might even post music here one day!

Alright, so. An update, of sorts. I have decided to try out the art lessons from Drawabox.com in order to actually have some structure in my artistic endeavours. I'm pretty sure I have ADHD, so some sort of plan to follow will definitely help, especially because this course starts from the literal beginning, i.e. I spent tonight reading and drawing straight lines for my actual art practice. But, importantly, they also say to split up your art time; 50% practicing art, and 50% just fucking around. I mean, they don't call it that, but I can read between the lines. So, that in mind, I spent a bit more time than I feel confident admitting drawing a banner image of sorts for the blog. It's, uh, well it certainly fills the space at least.

Look, something had to be the *first* banner, and now whatever I replace it with is automatically an upgrade, no matter how poorly I draw it! I'm just planning ahead. :D

...Hmm? Oh, right, I have an art tumblr. Should... probably try doing more art huh. Look, in my defense, uh, art is difficult and I have a very hard time keeping motivated in general, much less to keep up a routine with something I'm so unpracticed at. (See that? Instead of calling myself bad, I call myself something that basically means bad, but less self-critical. Mental health!) On the brightside, I got a bunch of my friends to start watching one of them play through Omori, so I have that going for me. Honestly, that game is one a list of like, six games total that permanently destroyed me mentally (among such gems as Undertale and One Shot.) It's so good, and I really hope I can keep them all focused long enough to actually finish it. I really want them to feel as Emotion as the game made me feel. (:

Oh right anyways the art this time is that I traced over the art for Omori. Since the last post, I've given that desk over to my little brother (so he can be loud up in our room instead of the office) and so my tablet is now back to sitting at my main computer. Consider this a warmup of sorts, because if you do that then it implies more art coming next, and I really do want to get good at drawing, I promise. Also, maybe some other stuff, too. Music is a form of art, and so is writing, both of which really interest me too. And if I can become good enough at all three of those, then I'm already good at coding, so I'll have all the skills needed to make a video game solo! Some sort of full-stack game designer. ...Or just, an indie dev really.

Wow, this was supposed to be, like, half a paragraph. Not three. Guess I just had a lot to say since last time, huh. Who would have guessed? I only had 4 months to build up. With luck, and a bit of determination too, my next post will come much sooner, and with actual original art! I'll write to you then!

I get distracted far too often and far too easily.

Although in retrospect I should probably focus on getting better at drawing things freehand before I start to rely on stuff like multibrush. The flower-ish thing I ended up drawing is far too symmetrical anyways. Also, yeah, my setup is quite ramshackle. Of course, this is my secondary setup, I have a main computer in an entirely different room. It's just that I want this one here to be entirely dedicated to art. Helps me stay focused.

Or as focused as I'm able to be. :p

My first experiments with brushes!

So as it turns out, those are pretty important for digital art. I probably should have guessed, to be honest. Also, I now have a profile picture! The actual good one features to the left of my valiant attempt was drawn by my good friend @\drowzy\artist. (But don't let her know I'm in here; This is kind of a private thing I'm doing and I don't really wanna draw attention to it. If you do wanna check her out, tell her you were sent by... I dunno, a voice on the wind or something.) Just a bit about the bird herself, the olive branch is obviously a reference to my name, but also inspired her (current, provisional) one; I've been referring to her as Oleacea, or just Olea for short. Get it? It's the taxonomical genus and family of the european olive!

I am in fact a massive dork. :D

2022-08-10: It begins! Hello, my name is Olive. I wanna be able to draw things. As of, like 30 minutes ago, I had never drawn before. (Not seriously at least.) This blog is gonna be a bit of a dumping ground where I try to puzzle out how art works, entirely on my own. Please don't look at it, it's not gonna be pretty. Although if you do, please feel free to tell me how it is I'm supposed to art. You've gotta, like... Abstract things into shapes, or something, right? Like, reduce something to its most essential details or something. I don't know, this is already such a mess haha.
