Happy Indigenous Peoples Day!

Across the United States, there are 556 federally recognized American Indian and Alaska Native nations. Each one has it’s own unique history and culture. American education has not bothered to tell us that Native people lived in peace and effectively governed themselves before the Europeans came along. American education has not informed us that Native Americans have been slighted ever since, not even being recognized as citizens (despite the fact that they were here first) until the 20th century. 

But we don’t have to push these facts aside. We can stop celebrating a man that began a genocide and a terrible theft of land and culture, and start celebrating Indigenous Peoples for their rich history and their equal contributions to society.

To all Indigenous Peoples out there: we’re glad you’re here!

We will stand with you in your continued battle to be recognized as legitimate human beings instead of the stereotypes perpetuated by Columbus and those that came after him.

So ‘promise’ was originally a song where Jimin scolded himself for not being honest with himself. The lyrics were so dark that they were close to Jimin literally cursing himself through a song. I, for one would have been absolutely devastated if his first solo was him degrading himself in his own eyes. 

The fact that promise went from being a song where he blames himself for his hardships to a song where he said, you know what? I’ll pick myself up and I’ll be my own light. I’ll make a promise to myself that I won’t let myself and my head bring me down.

 I’ll be a better me, FOR myself, BY myself.

This is honestly so so Jimin it’s actually fascinating. He never showed even the slightest signs of discomfort or pain during the time he was going through whatever it was that he struggled with and when he was ready, he took something that was his suffering and turned it into something so beautiful to help not only himself but everyone else as well.

You get me? Hiding all the suffering and coming out being this stronger, prouder version of himself? It’s his personality, it is what he is; He will never show anything that bothers him and will always reflect genuine love, happiness and affection in whatever he does. It’s just his being, who he is; It’s what Park Jimin is about.

Throwing everything that hurts under a rug and showing only the best of him to us. What we see is always what he wants us to see. A stronger prouder version of himself is what he gives us and what he so easily hides is all the suffering that came along to the journey to this version

I don’t know if you understood what I meant by this, I hope y’all did. It’s just, he works so much to hide his pain and just puts out the happier version he would want us to see and believe in. He embodies affection in so many ways it hurts me to think that there are people out there who think of him as anything less than a gift from the heavens that we clearly don’t deserve.

Also, he kept mentioning that he keeps “lying” to himself about his condition and wonders why he doesn’t rest when he knows he’s had enough. He wonders why he keeps “lying” to his own self about how much he can take. If this is what his wings solo ‘Lie’ was about, just imagine the years this boy has spent suffering because of his own damn self and all by himself. He lies to himself.

When he says “It’s endless even if I try to run. Free me from this hell. I can’t escape this suffering, Save me who is being punished” It’s Jimin himself who is putting him through all of this suffering and if that doesn’t absolutely break you then I don’t know man.

Honestly, all I can ever pray for is for Jimin to love himself.

All I hope for is for him to realise that everything he is, is enough.
