What if THIS is the first scene of Season 5?

EVERY season of Stranger Things has started with a scene that sets up a big danger or mystery for the season.

For season 5, the writers have already told us the first shot:

What if it's a flashback to Will's time in the Upside Down in s1?

Then we're shown a hint that something happened there that we never knew before (and which Will has forgotten). But just before we see it...

... WE CUT TO THE PRESENT

Will wakes up:

And Mike's by his side:

"Are you alright? Is it another nightmare?"

Will's staying at the Wheelers, where he can feel safest: with Mike.

It's in character. It efficiently tells us this last season comes full circle and echoes past seasons. It establishes we'll learn what happened to Will and why he was targeted. And that the close bond of these best-friends-since-kindergarten is again front and center and Mike is acting like Will's protector again.

Not the most unlikely thing, is it? =)
