i get so scared. and i get scared again. yuo are never gonna calm me down. i get so scared. and i get scared again. you are never gonna calm me down. i drink a nervous drink. i drink a frightened drink. i drink an anxious drink, i drink a scary drink. i fear the scares that remind me of the scary times. i fear the scares that remind me of the horror times
“only fools rush in”, Nozue/Togawa, Old Fashion Cupcake, for @onamonument
Togawa looked down at the key in his hand. “Are you sure?”
He couldn’t help replaying the memory of Nozue’s reaction to the last time Togawa had had his key, and when he looked up, he could see the echo in Nozue’s eyes too.
Nozue reached out and closed his fingers firmly around it. “I’m sure.”
“I thought…” Togawa paused to swallow and dug his fingernails (and the edge of the key) into his palm to make sure he was awake. “I thought you’d want to move slower.”
Nozue tilted his head to the side with a smile, the way he always seemed to when he was really focusing all his attention on Togawa. “I think we’ve done enough of that, don’t you?”
“But you–” Togawa cut off as Nozue leaned forward to cover his hand again.
“I know I took a long time to catch on. But I’m sure about this and I don’t want to waste more time. I’m an old man, after all.”
Togawa let out an exasperated sigh. “You are not!”
Nozue grinned. “There, that’s better.” He squeezed Togawa’s hand around the key again. “I’m serious. You said you might not get back from your trip until late, and I want you to be able to come in even if I’m asleep already. I want you to come home.”
Without saying “I’m sorry.”
1. “I wish I could help but my plate is pretty full right now.”
2. “I have said yes to too many things lately and I’m honestly overwhelmed at the moment.”
3. “I am not accepting any new tasks right now.” (I use this a lot and even though it is firm, I get positive responses because it’s relatable).
4. “I am over-committed right now, but I hope you find the help you need.”
5. “That’s my night to spend time with my family but thank you for asking me.”
6. “I’d love to but my schedule is packed right now.”
7. “That’s not a good day/time for me.”
8. “That’s not really my area, but thank you for thinking of me.”
9. “I’m honored but I can’t this time.”
10. “Thank you but this isn’t something I’m able to take on right now.”
11. “I am needed somewhere else that day, but thank you.”
12. “I am limiting my commitments right now.”
13. “I am honestly not able to dedicate the time right now.”
14. If you are disabled: “Spoons are low, so today is not a good day for this.” (try using “bandwidth” instead of “spoons” if you are not disabled so we can preserve the meaning of “spoons.”)
15. “That’s not a good fit for me, but (offer a genuine alternative).”
Here’s some fun facts about one of my favorite stories being told in Hamilton: this is Ariana Debose, who plays a special role within the ensemble known as The Bullet. She’s killed for suspected espionage right after You’ll Be Back, and is the first one to die (not counting Hamilton’s mother or cousin who hangs himself).
After this moment, she becomes an omen of death. At the beginning of Stay Alive, she carries a shot that narrowly avoids hitting Hamilton. In Yorktown, she helps Laurens kill a redcoat, shakes his hand, then Laurens is the next to die. In I Know Him, she’s the one bringing the message to King George about John Adams and symbolically heralding the impending doom of Hamilton’s political career. During Blow Us All Away, she’s the one who tells Phillip where to find George Eacker, (and flirts with him! Phillip is literally flirting with death!) then Phillip is the next to die. In Your Obedient Servent, she brings the desk on stage and hands Burr the quill to write the first of several letters that will eventually lead to Alexander Hamilton’s death. During the final duel, she again catches a bullet (fired by Burr), and if you watch her, she gets closer and closer to hitting Hamilton while he’s doing his soliloquy until Eliza pops onto stage. At this point, The Bullet is stopped by other members of the ensemble, the time freeze is abandoned, and we all know what happens next. (soure: JC Payne)
Happy Memorial Day, here’s our new captain in red, white, and blue! This palette was actually sampled from the colors of the planet Pluto, which I thought were really pretty.
Please see the notes for my links, I always double post my art because Tumblr is excluding all links from tag searches. You should find my post tagged ‘licie links’ right under my original post in the notes. I know it’s annoying, but this extra step helps me out a lot.
