no offense but where’s the scene where regina and neal sit down together to speak about rumplestiltskin and how everything he did to regina—the training, the trauma, and the manipulation and psychological abuse in order to mold her into someone who could serve his purposes—was to go to the land without magic to get baelfire.

I often see posts about curating your own online experience that make the point, “content creators aren’t your parents.” And, yes, that is absolutely true! And I try not to be like “as a parent,“ but as a parent…

EVEN PARENTS ARE SUPPOSED TO ENCOURAGE RESPONSIBLE READING/VIEWING BEHAVIOR. NOT filter everything ahead of time for their kid.

When my kiddo was 5, his pediatrician was asking him the usual Well Child Visit questions (“What are your favorite foods? What do you do to get your body moving? Do you know what to do if you get lost in a public place?” Etc.) and she asked, “What do you do if you see something on TV that scares or upsets you?”

I piped up like, “Oh, he doesn’t watch TV without one of us in the room,” which was true at the time and is still largely true now. She said, “Yes, but that won’t always be the case, so make sure you’re talking to him about what to do if he sees something that upsets him.”

So we started talking to him about that, and the answer is simple: “Turn it off or leave the room, and talk to someone you trust about what you saw and what you’re feeling.”

The answer is NOT “Ask your parents to make sure you never see anything upsetting again,” because that’s just not possible — and ultimately that would be doing the kid a disservice, since sooner or later he’s going to be out in the world where we can’t control what he watches or reads. That doesn’t mean we don’t try to make sure he’s watching/reading age-appropriate stuff, it just means that’s not the only safeguard he has — and that’s a good thing.

So yes, content creators aren’t your parents and aren’t responsible for making sure you never see anything you don’t like — but also, your own parents should have taught you what to do when that happens. So if they didn’t, take it from me, your internet mom:

Turn it off.

Walk away.

Talk to someone you trust about how you’re feeling.

And leave the person who created the thing that upset you alone.

I don't think I blocked people/blogs? I only ever had two blogs blocked, and one was a bot. I did block a number of tags. I know a ton of people blocked like the wind back then...

As for the interviews, it was a long time ago for me, so I may be misremembering. I remember a lot of the JMO stuff, and the clear distaste she had. I'm being honest when I say I genuinely do not remember Lana being irritated by swan queen.

I have to go back and rewatch some interviews to see if I've warped my memory about it. And I will read your fic about it!

I believe my statement about being an advocate for the fandom has come across strong, and has potentially implied that I don't think you should be skeptical. That is not true. I understand and can embrace the skepticism. I apologize.

I'm happy to share with you, as someone who watched the show and followed the actors when it was on air, that Lana has always been a Swan Queen fandom advocate. She and Jennifer Morrison took a selfie together in matching swan queen sweatshirts. Unfortunately, there was some drama that occurred and they deleted the photos and unfollowed each other. But I was there when it happened! I remember!

the fandom experience is seeing someone make a joke that twists your blorbo's characterization for comedic purposes and not saying anything because you know its just a joke and you don't want to be a killjoy but also knowing this kind of thing definitely influences unironic depictions of the blorbo so you just stand there like that meme of the guy with his lips pursed and his veins popping

Part of rewatching Once Upon A Time is remembering all of the unfortunate/sad stuff that happened with Jennifer and Lana and the fans. Ugh. I had buried that for myself, too. It's just so sad for them and their mutual friends/ the cast overall.
