Posting Reminder

Posting has officially begun! You have until June 22nd 11:59 PM ET (what time is that for me?) to post your work to AO3. If you haven't spoken to the mods in advance and do not post your gift by the deadline, you’ll be defaulted automatically. 

To post your assignment on AO3, log in and click “Post” in the top right hand corner, then “New Work” in the drop down box.  Follow the standard steps to post a new written work, remembering to tag any warnings or triggers, but before you post, click the box that says, "Stony Loves Steve 2025" and the name of your giftee in the "Open Assignments" section.

As AO3 doesn’t host art, you will need to upload your art to another website (DA, tumblr, imgur, etc), and then use this code in the HTML editor: <img src=“LINK TO ART” width=“100%” alt=“” /> Make sure you link to the direct image. Do not link to a tumblr post.

Your work will be listed as “unapproved” until it has been approved by a mod which may take a few days. If there is an issue with your post, you’ll be contacted by the mods. We won’t approve incomplete works and WIPs for the collection, so if you are having trouble completing your work by the deadline, send an email as soon as possible to stonylovessteve@gmail.com. 

If you post your work as a draft, the mods will be able to see it listed but not view the contents. In order for your work to be approved, you must post it as a completed work by the deadline. I really do/did wanna make some kind of fic or art that addresses the discrepancy between John' backstory vs the rest of the team. Like, how most of them (I didn't see Black Widow so idk Alexei's backstory) had childhood trauma or actual brainwashing that caused their issues, and John didn't. He had the perfect life, every advantage, and STILL wound up at rock bottom with the rest of them. He must feel like the only asshole with no excuse. He even SAYS to Yelena "You were a kid, I wouldn't beat myself up about it" and it's framed as rude and dismissive but like. She WAS. The other Thunderbolts (except maybe Alexei?) just fundamentally had less agency in their downfall than John did.

And wouldn't that make him feel SO MUCH WORSE? Sometimes? To look around at all the people who pulled themselves UP out of monstrous circumstances, and be the only one who fell from grace. To know that other people, your best friends who only kinda act like they like you, could overcome so much, and YOU couldn't even be a regular husband and father.

(And that's intentionally ignoring the way John WAS actually used and manipulated by outside forces, to some extent, because it's so easy for John to discount it. Chewed up and spit out by the military industrial complex? That doesn't count bc hydra strapped Bucky into a MURDER MACHINE. John no...)

Except I don't know how to express that without having John SAY IT and heaven knows he never would.

The way one of John's biggest fears is just being a bad father.

The way he's probably thinking, "I'll never be you, I'll never do what you did." And how this in itself is him overcoming that fear and working on himself. Like it's for Bob, but it's for himself too.

with love. you have to fact check shit. yes you. you still have to fact check shit. a lot of people are great at fact checking stuff they don’t want to be true, but somehow are still absolute ass at fact checking stuff that’s rhetorically convenient to them. even people my age, who I KNOW grew up doing internet/bibliography literacy workshops, and being warned not to believe anything that isn’t reliably sourced, people who DO harp on fact checking conservative output or whatever, are still kneejerk sharing unsourced shit that is partially or wholly untrue or misleading, because it suits whatever narrative they’re pursuing in that moment, without even a “take this with a grain of salt”. fact check!!!!!! look at the sources!!!!! yes it’s a drag!!! do it!!!!!

i feel like too many people on here don’t rlly Get how hard and traumatizing it can be to force yourself to have sex that you don’t want to have, especially with someone you have no sexual attraction to. it’s not “just like doing a chore” and i think if you’ve actually done that or tried to do it, you’d understand how unnatural and sickening it feels. it just irks me so bad how nonchalant people are about saying “you don’t have to be attracted to someone to have sex with them” because like .. yeah strictly speaking i guess not? like objectively that is true. but the majority of the time it’s a sentiment used against lesbians and a means to reinforce compulsive heterosexuality and it disregards how traumatizing that can be later down the line, and how damaging it is to your personal idea of sex. instead of like, the groundbreaking sexual liberation people seem to think it is
