Day 30: Favorite Vinyl Packaging

Sunbather /// Deafheaven /// Pink and Clear Yellow Double LPs /// Jacket with letters “A” and “V” cut out on front and back /// 2013 /// Deathwish Inc.

Not only is Sunbather one of my favorite albums of all time, the time and thought that went into the packaging of this record is amazing as well. The letter A on the front and letter V on the back are cut-outs so you can see straight through the jacket to the LP labels or liner notes inside. The inside of the jacket is a dark yellow glossy paper while the outside is a rougher matte paper material.

I like when bands put as much effort into their album packaging as their music itself. Sure, it’s all about the music, but the packaging should be part of the experience too. Otherwise you might as well make your album art a piece of notebook paper saying “Hi, this is my band and this is the album name.”
