Rage, Grief & Other Quiet Explosions
(Emotional meltdowns that don’t look like meltdowns, but absolutely are)
The “Smiling Too Much” Grief Your character’s entire world is on fire, and they’re asking if anyone wants more wine. That’s not denial, it’s an effort to hold the damn pieces together. Smile like a glue gun. Watch them crack.
The “Not Crying At the Funeral” Breakdown They don't shed a tear. They organize everything. Perfect speech. Perfect outfit. But a week later, they scream into the laundry basket over a missing sock. That’s the moment. That’s the eulogy.
The “Silent Dinner Table” Fight No yelling. No slamming doors. Just chewing. Clinking silverware. The kind of silence that tastes like metal. Let the reader feel the air shrink.
The “Polite but Dead Inside” Apology They say “Sorry” because it’s expected, not because they’re ready. Their voice doesn’t crack. Their eyes don’t meet yours. This isn’t healing. This is a peace treaty with no peace.
The “I Don’t Want to Talk About It” Detour The one where they ask about your day mid-sob. Redirect. Deflect. “Let’s not talk about me.” That’s rage choked by shame. Write it like it’s shoving itself into a smaller box.
The “Obsessively Productive” Meltdown New projects. New hobbies. Suddenly they’re running marathons, baking sourdough, fixing the garage door. Because if they sit still for one second, they’ll break. Keep the camera on them when they finally sit.
The “Unsent Letters” Grief They write it all down. Every damn emotion. Then burn it. Or delete it. Or hide it in a shoebox under their bed. It’s not for closure. It’s to let the ghosts know they were seen.
The “I’m Fine” That Echoes Delivered too fast. Too sharp. You could bounce a quarter off it. “I’m fine” isn’t fine. It’s the dam cracking. Listen to the echo. Let another character hear the hollowness.
The “Hyper-Logical Rant” Rage They argue with spreadsheets. With perfect bullet points. Cold rage—like ice, not fire. “I’m not mad, I’m just saying…” But that’s a lie. They’re volcanic under that clipboard.
The “Laughing in the Middle of the Breakdown” Moment That bitter, hysterical laugh. The kind that sounds more like sobbing with teeth. Let it come at the worst time. Let it shock even them. That’s emotion refusing to stay boxed in.

Gotta tell you this: the Green Witch arc is exactly the arc after which I have been considering Sebaciel fully canon. No shitting, no kidding, no quote on quote thing. Just like this. Canon. Full stop.
Like, hear me out, OK? It is the MOST sexually charged arc of the whole manga so far. It deals a lot with Ciel's SA trauma, and it starts already with lots of references of sexual activities (which, btw were mentioned already in the Weston Arc, remember the conversation about Ciel and Lizzie in the SWAN gazebo?).
So in episode 1 of this arc's anime adaptation we have Sebastian talking about horny witches who might or might not have had sex with some demons, who might or might not have been Sebastian.
In episode 2 we have Sullivan and the hysterical dick grabbing, and Ciel's reaction to that.
Then we're going to have the mustard gas poisoning and some VERY explicitly naked swimming in that cauldron or whatever it was. Lots of very interesting artistic choices there, too.
Then the PTSD plot and Ciel's traumatic memories, also sexual in nature. And then...

The whole culmination of it is this. The "90% earnest" soul-eating aka black tendril monsterfuck, which Ciel ends up approving after it happens. After which he gets better and his relationship with Sebastian transforms yet again, and becomes much much warmer in the later chapters.

And to me it is absolutely clear as to how this scene is meant to be viewed by the people who are invested in their relationship. This is sex. And it's canon. And there's no way around it. It is just that. I know how uncomfortable it can make some people feel, but like... idgaff at this point. They have consummated their unholy marriage in the darkest xenosensual way possible. And I love it. This is exactly the kind of fuck I can picture for their first time without them becoming honeyfluff OOC. Huuuuuge many thanks to Yana for actually going there and drawing that. And I dunno how the studio has handled this scene, but so far I see they're pretty much sticking to the manga, so I hope we're gonna be served nice and hot.
One more time, louder for the folk in the back row: sebaciel is canon. Has been for years, actually.
I rest my case here, guys. You have the bestest day.

if all the art and moments sebastian and ciel had were switched with other characters, antis would ship the hell out of it and lose their shit

oh and in celebration of the emerald wirch arc anime coming out next year, i have some tips for the new black butler fans!! or old if they apply to you lol
ALWAYS read the manga first.
the anime deviates so far from the manga that season 2 can't even be considered canon. im not even joking here. after the second half of s1, the animators just pulled shit out of their rears and called it a day. they didn't pull it together until book of circus, but to anyone who had watched the anime before reading the manga, the story made zero sense. i watched the series three times trying to understand it but it wasn't anything but crack until i read the manga.
if you can't buy the manga, read it on mangakakalot.com manganelo or mangareader.to, but PLEASE read it before watching.
sebaciel is (somewhat) canon, heavily implied at times, but so are lots of ships, so for the love of god please don't hate on shippers
yana toboso, the writer, has admitted that kuroshitsuji was originally intended to be a yaoi, but her publishers warned her against it. (← im told that's a rumor) there were still some sebaciel-esque scenes in the manga, so be warned! but there are also other implied ships (which is basically the entirety of s2), so suffice to say there are bound to be lots of ship wars. please don't turn the kuroshitsuji fandom into another mha fandom 😭
if you're sensitive to proship content, especially adult × child, STEER CLEAR of black butler.
while an argument may be made that it's not technically a proship since pedophilia isn't a crime in japan or since it's a human × nonhuman, therefore age gap rules aren't as cut and dry as they would be otherwise, sebastian is still portrayed as an adult and ngl it can be kind of triggering for victims of this kind of thing, and just icky in general if you don't know to expect it.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE pay heed to the content warnings, not the actual rating.
some streaming services say that kuroshitsuji is tv14. TRUST ME. it's not. here's a full list of content warnings:
severe violence
lots of sexual themes including rape, not once but TWICE (in the anime, only once in the manga) by sebastian, and pedophilia
intense gore
there is a character who is somewhat minorly important who is a lolicon (duke whatever his name was)
deals with themes including cults, rejection of the christian faith, demons, rituals, supernatural phenomena, and generally disturbing stuff. for crying out loud a TWELVE YEAR OLD kid has summoned a demon servant, is a major underworld crime god, and has survived some major cult shit.
language is pretty bad
cults
arson
murder
murder
murder
mafia/underworld crime/organized crime
organized extreme abuse/ritual abuse, mind control, organized abuse, etc. is a MAJOR theme. it's basically the precursor to the entire series and is heavily discussed and shown. please please please don't get into it if you're triggered by that, ESPECIALLY if you're a victim/potentially a victim and healing. nobody would want you to uncover memories or harm yourself because of the series. stay safe!!!
one of the character's main things is he's basically obsessed with stepcest (lao)
lao is also a drug dealer
oh yeah, drugs and drugs and drugs and drugs and–
arranged marriages for kids (ciel and lizzy)
the second season (say what you will about it but i enjoyed it) had a LOT of torture and mindbreak over some dumb shit and was generally really really disturbing, objectively more so than the first season. we're talking waterboarding (i think is what it's called? correct me NICELY if im wrong) and making the mc's relive their trauma to achieve a certain goal.
also the second season deals with twice as much pedophilia, arson, demons, and murder since the second mc (alois trancy) is basically ciel phantomhive but blonde and a lot gayer (olé!)
stalking
lots and lots of murder
it's a horror series, what do you expect
both explicit and implicit sex scenes aplenty
manipulation, mindbreak, and abuse
there's a whole jack the ripper arc and it is MESSY
it's bad at the start and only gets worse! please please please only get involved with kuroshitsuji if you can handle that!
both the manga and anime are ongoing, so don't treat it as a one and done!
yana paused production of the manga to work on a game called twisted wonderland (edit: and apparently to focus on bb too? dunno how that works) , but more chapters and arcs are expected, and the series is far from over despite starting over a decade ago! i reread and rewatch every now and then to stay updated (and because it's a great series)! while i realize that can be a bit of a task, trust me when i say it's worth it!!
lastly, have fun with it!!!
kuroshitsuji fandom has been dying. REVIVE IT!! engage with fan works! cosplay! talk to other fans! make friends! convert people to the dark side!! be down bad!! be weird, be cringe!!! do whatever as long as it isnt toxic!!!

A Few Tips All Writers Should Remember:
·Write to your comfort level. Meaning: give yourself a break when you need it and push yourself when you’re feeling motivated.
·Seek out sources of motivation. There are very few times when motivation hits me out of nowhere. Read a good book. Watch a good movie. Write down your goals.
·Find your space. Coffee shop. Library. Your room with the music blasting and the TV playing your favorite show. Find whatever gets you in the right headspace.
·Your first draft is just the first draft. Too many writers stress out about the first draft and they forget it’s just the first step in completing your novel. You can add to it, build from it, or toss it away completely.
·You will be rejected. Even if you write the next big hit, you’ll be rejected. Read the reviews for some of your favorite books—I guarantee someone HATED it. Not everyone will like your work, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad.
·Write advice isn’t for everyone. There’s no one-size-fits-all plan for writers. Pick and choose advice that works for you, ignore what doesn’t. Not everything will relate directly to you and your style of writing.
·It’s okay to stay in. Want a night to yourself so you can write? Don’t be afraid to cancel your plans and focus on your writing hobby. You don’t have to feel guilty about wanting to work on your writing.
·Let ideas settle. It’s tempting to jump right in to a new writing idea, but let things settle for a bit. Brainstorm. See what comes next. An idea needs to have legs and it needs to take your story somewhere. Let it grow.
·Outlines aren’t set in stone. Be flexible with your outlines. Plan if you need to, but allow yourself to explore new ideas. Let your story go in an unexpected direction.
