*photo taken in Khardung La in the Indian Himalaya is the highest motorable road at 5,682 masl  as per Guiness World Records. this photo was taken on our way back to Leh from Nubra Valley. we were inside the airconditioned car for over an hour before we got in Khardung La. it was winter- beloew zero. when the car came to a halt, i got excited with the scenery, i abruptly jumped out of the car i totally forgot about the high altitude. i instantly felt a piercing headache. altitude sickness. it lasted for a few days.

Deep in the rainforests of the Indian state of Meghalaya lie some of the most extraordinary pieces of civil engineering in the world. Here, in the depths of the forest, bridges aren’t built - they’re grown. Ancient tree vines and roots stretch across rivers and streams, creating a solid latticework structure that appears too fantastical to be real. The Cherrapunji region is considered to be one of the wettest places on the planet and this is the reason behind the unusual bridges. With Cherrapunji receiving around 15 metres of rain per year, a normal wooden bridge would quickly rot. This is why, 500 years ago, locals began to guide roots and vines from the native Ficus Elastica rubber tree across rivers using hollow bamboo until they became rooted on the opposite side.

Aunty telling me I’ve gotten dark doesn’t notice the long, thin scars on my arm - some slowly fading, some recent, some new.
Aunty saying I should get married soon missed the tiny nicks on my knuckles, the pattern that form when you stick your fingers far back down your throat often enough.
Aunty who thinks I need to have kids soon can’t see the pins holding up my jeans, on both sides, the empty falling inches.
