Studio Project 7 - Magazine Cover RECKONER
For this weekly task, we are required to design a magazine cover that has a playful touch to it. Because I’m fond of cutesy magazines like this, I decided to have a playful girly theme for my design. My main colours for this cover will be shades of pink and purple, and ‘stickers’ will be included to accentuate the overall theme. Brushes are used to bring the words and graphics together and improve the aesthetic of the design.
2 interviews and 2 articles are included and wrapped around the model to have a ‘3d’ feel to it. Because of the theme of this magazine, the articles and interviews are beauty/celebrity related. Issue number, price and date is included at the bottom of the magazine cover.
This cover is designed with photoshop. with love. x

Studio Project 8 - Logo Design
I give piano lessons in Singapore on weekends apart from my boring full-time job, so I figured this logo can be on that.
My name’s fei and everyone calls me that. When I put the letters in caps together I tried to think about how people can immediately relate to the “enterprise” of my logo. And after tweaking it around I realised that it CAN look like black&white piano keys. The words “piano lessons” were added, and the colours were inverted such that the background can be white and overall it can be a more seamless logo design. The font was also changed so that it can fit better because the overall FEI is more blocky than curvy, if that makes sense.

For this assignment, we are to design ‘The Wandering Eye’ -- a flat magazine cover of 950mm x 1300mm.
Size of words and headings were considered in order to capture the attention of readers as well as guide them through the different parts of content. The title ‘The Wandering Eye’ is specially designed as well in order to complement the theme of the magazine.
More descriptions are in the picture above.

Studio Project 6 -- T shirt design, horror inspired
Since young I’ve always thought of Snow White as creepy. She’s way too cheerful, chirpy and overly enthusiastic. She even hung out with 7 men in a house and all.... well.
I’d suspect she’s hiding some of her personality behind those smiles and sweet songs. You’d never know.
The quote “who’s the fairest of them all?” is one of the most popular lines in Snow white, spoken by the evil Queen. But I honestly think she just wants to feel better about herself too. We all get jealous too let’s be honest. Maybe Snow White is a fake girl. Maybe Snow White is secretly MEAN. Haha. At least the Queen is honest, at least she shows it. But Snow White feigns innocence and goes around seducing 7 men in the woods.
I bet Snow White looks into her mirror at home and tells herself she’s the fairest of them all too. B****.
I’ve done up too backgrounds for the designs. Grunge background and white background. I feel that with the white background, it blends more seamlessly into the T-shirt as compared to the grunge.
Say no to sNOw white.

Studio Project 5 - Book Cover with favourite band (Advertisement design)
I adore Sleeping With Sirens. It’s one of the bands I listen to when I’m down (other than PTV, BMTH and BVB etc) A little background about them, their genres are generally post-hardcore, pop rock, pop punk, alternative rock, and metalcore. Awesome stuff.
One of the songs from them that I absolutely love is Better Off Dead. A few lines of the lyrics go like this, “ When all you got is these four walls, it's not that hard to feel so small, or even exist at all.“ “ Maybe I'm better off dead. If I was would it finally be enough to shut out all those voices in my head? “
SWS’s logo is the W with the slash; I’ve put it as a watermark behind the title at the top.
The smashed mirror/glass depicts the internal conflict inside the person looking at it -- how her perception of herself is unsatisfactory and how much she would love to disappear from this world. Often we are not satisfied with ourselves, how we look; that we hate looking into the mirror -- because it tells us the truth about ourselves.
“You’re gonna miss me when I’m gone” is one of the lines that keeps repeating throughout the song. It’s impactful, thus is used as the subtitle of this cover on top of the artist name.

Studio Project (?something extra?) - Horror poster
“Tell us about yourself” will be the four words that I absolutely hate hearing on the first day of school. Honestly I’m a boring person. Don’t expect me to be “TALKING ABOUT MYSELF” to a bunch of strangers on the first day of hell. I’m anxious af. And I hate everyone looking in my direction.
So it’s this. A horrible, horrifying situation to be in.

Studio Project 1 - Geometric Portrait (Revised)
I figured that the previous 1 (or 2?) that I did MAY not fulfill the geometric factors. So I tried to do one more that is closer to the style of Pablo Lobato. This time I tried to forgo the very details in order to create the image with truer geometric shapes. I asked my friends if they could tell who this is and they could, I’m so glad hahaha. Steve Jobs btw if you still can’t tell.
I tried to play with the hue after finishing the image and realised colours play a big part in images. When it’s tinted blue he looks like an actual villian. And it’s pretty cool.

Studio Project 5 - Advertisement Design
Alright I did up both..
For the first one with Tinder, I actually wanted to portray and emphasize the difference between real life and social media. How people (not just girls of course, but it’s more obvious) switch behind phones and screens. The placement of the difference Left and Right reflects abstractly the “swiping” of left and right on Tinder (also since appearance is one of the greatest thing on Tinder). So actually neither left or right matters. And yknow, a hidden pun of swiping on the “right” one; and how people “left” after seeing how the person looks like irl. But okay, let’s get over that.
BUT... I realised halfway through that it was supposed to be an ADVERTISEMENT design. So I was kinda shooting myself in the feet by proving that point ... LOL.
So I figured the same image (that I photoshopped so painstakingly), can be used well for other advertisements. Say... Bacardi! Also because it’s a boring night at home and I’m kinda thinking of hitting King Street club...
To advertise Bacardi sorta, imagine yourself in a club with crazy awesome music and some good shots. Who cares if you get tipsy and take a guy for a hot girl, doesn’t matter anymore does it. Or you can even see double. Awesome. 2-in-1 lol.
Alright am done here. Peace out

SEM2 CALENDAR ASSIGNMENT1 :
Raw; Soft organic touch. Something personal and intimate - something that resembles the melancholy you feel when the rain falls, the one playlist on your phone, the passionate crunch of dried leaves under your feet; and perhaps the high school memories of you doodling on your notebook. Use of organic calligraphy/hand-lettering typefaces, watercolour drawings (of nature) and brushstrokes as lines. No ‘corporate fonts’ and ‘computerized lines’. A handy desk calendar for planning.
Bookmarks with months (JFMAMJJASOND) at the bottom to allow easy reference for the different months accordingly.
Did with AI + PS, and ID (for layout).
note *idk why tumblr made my images so saturated, it’s not actually like this*

Studio Project 3 - Car plate designs
//
//
Did these fonts using AI, used the pen tool as well as the shape tool. I’m honestly not a huge fan of crazy personalised car plates, and I prefer a simpler one. But here goes nothing! I mean putting rainbows on car plates are okay...... but I’m okay with just this.
I tried to do a serif font for the top one with the stubby squares. Maybe a little more formal kind of plate. Anyway, I decided to put a line in the middle of the 0 to differentiate it from the O.
For the second car plate I pushed myself and tortured myself a little to make the special font with overlapped gaps. Played with strokes and lineweights as well. I got to play with the WACOM pad as well, like I’ve always wanted to.
Was a satisfying experience.

Studio Project 1 - Geometric Portrait (2)
Benjamin Kheng! I’m pretty happy that it kinda looks like him yeah.
//
//
I think I nailed it this time round. Although I still wonder if the trees in the background are geometric shapes, I guess not. I drew the shapes with the pen tool and curve pen tool. Did this on AI + PS.

Studio Project 1 - Geometric Portrait (1)
Literally my first time doing this. ;-;
He’s supposed to be Taehyung but I guess I failed! It was pretty fun doing this though x
//
//
Doing this on AI/PS was pretty challenging since I’ve never done anything like this before. I may have difficulties differentiating geometric shapes and organic shapes. I feel that human portraits are pretty difficult to do with just geometric shapes. Hope I don’t fail this assignment because of that because I spent a lot of damn time doing this. T_T I think drawing the shapes were harder than anything else. Harder than using geometric shapes. Maybe I’ll do this again.

Studio Project 2 - Grid Layout
A4 portrait, A4 landscape, square.
(Yellow as Image, Light blue as Body, Dark blue as Heading)
//
//
After multiple trial-and errors and experimenting many layouts, these are the final layouts. I tried to push the boundaries between the different elements so that it wouldn’t look too “grid-dy”. E.g intersecting the Title/Heading into Image. I feel it will be more interesting for the readers, and at the same time the image can lead the readers to the heading, and vice versa.
After the try on the square, I moved on to the portrait where I tried to balance out white spaces between grids. I realised I’ve been so caught up in arranging elements to fit into grids that I’ve forgotten that white spaces can be left as well. It’s also essential to make sure that the white spaces are balanced well, or else the whole image will not look right.
The last attempt was the landscape. I pushed the boundaries again, and this time I attempted to put my title vertically. I also made sure the body columns are the same/similar so that readers can read it easier. One thing I realised about putting real text and images into the coloured boxes is that what I planned for in boxes may not work after adding real text and images. E.g, the image + body may not work if the image’s colour was not contrasting to the body.
