our fascist government in the us is testing its power on the people of dc. they say they want to "get control of crime", but since crime is down in dc we know that they just want to impose military control over the people. the other potential targets for this project are la, chicago, and baltimore. they have many things in common, but the most striking to me is that they are all very black and brown cities. since the turn of the century, blackness has been associated with criminality, with unrest, with danger. black cities and communities have been deprived and over-policed. when things are done to our communities, the media frames it as natural or expected. "what was the cop supposed to do?" "shouldn't we address high crime rates?" etc etc

my friend nader @abdalsalam2000 tells me that he feels this way often as a palestinian, that he is treated as a problem even when he cries out for help. even when he and his people are victimized, they are framed as born and bred victimizers. as the people of gaza starve, the israeli society frames their children as "future terrorists" without a shred of remorse. i want a better life for my friend, and for all of us. please donate to his family below!

A series of events:

1. I put in an Annual Leave request form almost 3 weeks ago and my boss has not approved it yet

2. I went into my office today and replaced every single writing utensil with crayons in preparation for April Fools Day on Monday

3. Whilst searching for pens to remove, I found my unsigned Annual Leave form in my boss’s drawer

4. I placed my unsigned Annual Leave form in a photo frame and put it on his desk

5. The frame I used was from a photo of his kids that I deemed less important than my Leave form

an interesting linguistics find! so I'm reading this text from 1908 and it keeps referencing "hp" in the context of "not being at full hp" "applying your full hp to a task" etc

and I'm like....... okay that is a perfectly normal way to describe energy and reads totally clear to me, but I KNOW you don't mean hit points/health points which is the first place my brain goes, so what are YOU using hp to mean

and it's not explained in-text, which means it was common enough to not warrant explanation to the 1908 audience, so gotta look elsewhere

having anti punitive justice morals sucks because you want to say "man that guy sucks he should get hit with hammers until he dies" but you also want to make it clear you don't think anyone should be put in charge of the 'hit people with hammers until they die" machine.

okay so before i got sick i was a museum curator as u may know and a pair of otters made their home under the museum so when i started working there a member of our research team warned me that my office would sometimes stink. well for a year i sat in my office thinking wow. this is way stinkier than i imagined it would be.

some days were egregious but with my background as a fish biologist i had a high stink tolerance so i just accepted it but i began to suspect that perhaps the otters were closer at-hand than we wanted to believe.

well my successor who took over when i left just told me that they had to do repairs on the floor in the curator’s office and the otters were IN the FLOOR. they infiltrated the museum and were stowing and eating fish beneath the floorboards of my office. apparently the floor was full of little leftover prey carcasses.

and i just lived like that.
