Earlier you accused me of wanting to leave you and I couldn't believe you'd even believe I'd ever be able to consider that but yet, here we are. This isn't for good, I'd never just bail out but I can't stay here. Right now, I can't forgive you for what you asked me and I know you aren't near forgiving me for what I said and in order to avoid going through the same never ending circle of bullshit we've been through continuously since that day eight years ago, I need to go. I'll probably go stay with Cassie or maybe Rhys for a few days and catch up. I haven't seen either of them in a while and I think it'll do me some good. This is real. This is happening. And you need to decide what you're going to do. Who you are going to be. Augustus Wood, the one who really will never settle down for a true test of commitment or Augustus Wood, father. We're at a cross roads, Gussy. Two paths, three people. I know which one I'm taking and who I'm definitely taking it with and who I hope to take it with. I'm going to be a mother, nothing will change that. Question is, am I going to be alone in it or can you finally let yourself grow up and not throw away something between us yet again?
I love you and I know you love me...but do you love me and now our unborn child more than you love being you is the real question here. I have another appointment in exactly a week at St Mungo's at four. I made sure to make it for a day after a home game so I know you won't have practice and to make it later in the day so you can sleep in. Either you come and I come home with you and we work it out or...I'll come clear the rest of my things out afterwards and go from there on my own. We both just need a few days to think without having the other around and risking our heads exploding like they always do. I don't want to leave but I can't stay right now.
Love,
Adriana.

Adriana would be lying if she ever told someone she hadn't almost gone after him but the truth was, she had. A step or two after him before she'd stopped herself and let the sound of the door shutting between them mean more than one thing. It wasn't just the front door of the house shutting. It was a door shutting on part of them. This wasn't going to be easy to get past and honestly, she wasn't currently sure if there was a way or even if she was willing to look for a way. She hadn't been expecting him to be jumping for joy or picking out baby names but she also hadn't ever expected he'd ask her something like that. Adriana had never once really entertained the thought he'd want her to get rid of it.
Did she regret what she had said about the baby being someone who finally loved her? Only slightly. Deep down, currently wayyyy deep down, Adriana knew Augustus loved her but sometimes she wondered if it was still like it had once been or if it was reaching the point that she long suspected her parents had long ago reached. The point where it was convenient to love the other person. If she could take it back, she probably would but truth of the matter was that it was out there and there was no taking it back. He was gone now, to a Quidditch practice she suspected didn't actually exist and her? Well, maybe she needed to clear out for a bit. Spend a few days with a friend. She knew if she was there when he got back, it would only continue where they had left it and snowball into a bigger fight.
If there was one thing they did it was say things to hurt the other and let things fester until they exploded and for once, Adriana wasn't willing to go through the same cycle. It wouldn't be good on the baby and honestly, she was tired of it. They weren't kids anymore--the small rounding of her stomach confirming that. Heading to their shared room, Adriana pulled his suitcase towards her and pulled out the few things he hadn't unpacked yet before throwing a few of her own things into it. Her own suitcases were packed away, Adriana never really needing them and she was sure he could track them down if he needed to go anywhere and had need for one but for now, she just needed to..go. Before he got back. Leaving a note on the table, Adriana considered taking the ultrasounds so he wouldn't be faced with them but instead tucked them under the note. He needed to realize it was real and it was happening. He just needed to decide if he was going to be apart of the new family picture.

Adriana watched him, taking just a half step back as he began turning. Stupidly, she was hopeful he was going to finally look at her, finally they could talk this out as two adults--still teenagers or not--should. But she was wrong and left wondering why she'd even felt the momentary sense of relief and hope surge through her. "Everyone was so right about you." She whispered, angry and hurt tears flooding her eyes again that she quickly swiped at. "You're never going to care about anyone but yourself no matter how much time and effort I try putting into us. Look at you, you can't even look at me." Shaking her head, she whirled and moved away from him, moved to lean against the able so there was distance between them. "I have stood by your side through so much. All the pain and bullshit and even now, I still stand by your side with your Qudditch and the first thing you ask me when I tell you that we're going to have a baby--you know, after complete denial--is asking me if I'm going to keep it?" Scuffing, she shook her head once more. "Clearly, you don't want this baby but I'm going to be damned if I get rid of it. I want this baby, I'm going to have this baby and finally, I'll have someone that actually loves me in my life for once." Was she saying she doubted he loved her? She wasn't sure but it felt like it. Could someone really love someone and yet seem so...cold? She wasn't sure about that either.

Adriana couldn't help the snort that came from her when he finally spoke, at first being hopeful his apology meant more than what it turned out being a lead into. "For you?" Adri echoed incredulously. "It's hard for you to come to terms with? How do you think I've been feeling? Dealing with this all on my own?!" She snapped, her arms crossed tightly over her chest. "But wait, I forgot--Augustus Jonathon Wood only cares about himself, doesn't he?" She asked, her voice dropping low along with her stomach as her eyes misted. "I know you haven't been around much but you didn't even notice anything was going on with me! No matter how much I fought to hide it...you should have known! You've known me since I was eleven!" Her tears somehow held themselves in before he spoke again and they let themselves free but it was out of fury, not sadness that they spilled. "How dare you." She whispered, her voice full of contempt and rage. "Never, during any of the continuous amount of bullshit you've put me through over the years have I ever been so truthfully and painfully honestly able to say that I hate you." She spewed out before slowly crossing to stand directly behind him. "Coward." Adriana ground out, the word coming from her for so many reasons currently but the biggest one being that he couldn't even face her.

"They're a fucking snack to go with your tea. What the hell do they look like, Augustus?!" Her anger was still clear in the venomous way her words were spewed out. Watching him look in between her and the folded up ultrasounds, she widened her eyes and gestured towards them. ''I know you don't like being proved wrong but if you don't mind, I'd rather not be standing here still when the baby is boarding the train for the first time.'' When he closed his eyes, she nearly kicked him, the only thing saving him being the fact that Adriana knew that would be utterly and completely counter-productive to the moment--but she did promise herself she'd allow herself a kick later if this continued on much longer this way. Her anger began to dissolve a bit when he finally peeked at them, the fear returning as she waited for his reaction. A reaction that only fueled the flaming anger back into an inferno as well as increase her fear even more. ''Really? You're not even going to say anything?!" She demanded as he turned away from her without a single glance and returned his attention to his precious tea. ''Forgot about your damn tea and talk to me!" Adriana ordered, her tone angry yet clearly laced with worry.

Dismissed--that's how Adriana felt as he so quickly brushed it off as her jumping the gun, as he moved from the table to the stove. Her hands were shaking as she sat there, back stiff and stared straight ahead, ignoring his question. "I think I'm smart enough to at least know the difference between being late and being pregnant." She ground out slowly through clenched teeth. "Give me some credit, Augustus--I'm not that stupid." Getting to her feet, she strode angrily from the room and stormed up the stairs to their bedroom where she grabbed the two ultrasounds she had hidden deep in her drawers. The first was the first one she'd gotten when she'd gone to see if she was right about what was going on inside of her body and the other was one a bit more updated from just the other day at her check-up. There wasn't much change but the fuzzy little form had solidified a bit and taken the unmistakable shape of a baby. Stomping back down the steps, she slapped both folded up papers on the counter next to the stove. "Care to try again?" She asked, glancing over at him.

Adriana saw the look on his face and was thrown off by it until he spoke, a look of complete and utter shock crossing her own expression as her mouth fell slightly open. "I--" She couldn't even speak, her shock at him actually thinking something like that too great, leaving her momentarily speechless. Opening and closing her mouth a few times, she tried finding the words to shut down such a ridiculous thought but before she could, he was speaking again. The switch in his mood was something she was used to after all the years they'd known each other but that didn't make it feel like any less of a slap in the face. Her own temper raised a bit suddenly, feeling angry at him for thinking she could ever just give up on him--give up on them--after everything they'd been through together. "I'm pregnant." And just like that, ground out through clenched teeth, the secret was out and just as quickly as her anger at him had came, it was gone--replaced with a knot in her stomach as she waited for his reaction. Sitting there scared, Adriana wished she was anywhere but sitting there with him in that moment.

Adriana knew there were a million and one things she could say or do to further stall. She could ask how the games had gone, congratulate him on the historic win against Chudley--a win she was very proud over, Quidditch fan or not--she could get up and give herself a little space by going to make them something to eat--all of those and a million more ideas raced through her head as she sat there but she knew that she could do none of those things. Not with the way he was looking at her, the worry clear in his expression. "We need to talk." She began slowly, not knowing how to really go about what she had to say. Those four words were always cause for alarm, that she knew, but there was really no other way she could think to begin. Searching his eyes for a moment, afraid that this could be one of the last times things were okay between them while hoping for the best all at the same time, she took a deep breath. "But first, first I need you to promise me that no matter what you could never hate me." Adriana knew that was probably a lot to ask but she asked it of him anyways, her gaze lowering as she awaited his reply.

Never in her life had Adriana been more happy to wait for someone than she was when he said to hold on. "Take your time!" She called back, trying yet again to prolong the inevitable as much as possible. Drumming her fingers on the tabletop, she wondered exactly how she was supposed to go about this. Did she just blurt it out? Walk him into it piece by piece? This was something she'd never had to dealt with before in her life and the fear of the unknown was nearly crippling as she imagined all the ways this could blow up in her face. Hoping that maybe she was just being paranoid and he'd take it a lot better than she was expecting, she sat up a bit straighter as she heard his footsteps approaching. Forcing a smile onto her face after his question in hopes it would make everything look fine, she shrugged. "What, a girl can't want to just catch up with her boyfriend after he's spent the last twenty or so years away from her?" She asked, trying to buy herself another few minutes. Blurting it out wasn't going to happen, that much she could tell already. And while she tried her hardest to keep her tone even and appear like she was perfectly fine, she knew that if anyone could read her like an open book, it was Augustus Wood.

Life Altering Discoveries |
Three weeks ago Adriana's life had taken a complete turn upside down but if anyone was to tell you they suspected there was anything going on, they'd be lying. Careful to stick to the same daily routine that had been the norm ever since graduating from Hogwarts and beginning her job at the Ministry, Adriana made sure that her little secret was hers and hers alone. The fact that she was pregnant, something that should have been told to him immediately, was still unknown to Augustus. Closing in on three months, Adri knew that she couldn't keep it a secret much longer and as scared as she was that his reaction would be anything but good, she knew that she couldn't keep stalling. Before long she'd be showing, a slight rounding already forming underneath her shirts, and she knew that the longer she waited the worse his reaction would be.

Waiting was pretty much the equivalent of lying and if she knew anything it was that Augustus Wood didn't take nicely to being lied to or deceived and that's exactly what she'd been doing for the past three weeks. In her defense, he'd been gone more often than home lately but today had marked his return home for more than five or ten minutes before he was off to the next set of away games that was keeping him from her lately and she knew it was now or never. Scared to face him quite yet and aiming for an extra moment or so of stalling, Adriana made her way to the table, sitting down before taking a deep breath. "Augustus?" She called out, knowing he was somewhere in the house. "Come talk to me."

Bump In The Road | Adriana
It was just the flu—just some pesky stomach bug, that’s all. She’d just had one not too long ago and it wasn’t uncommon for someone to think they were over a stomach virus only to realize they were only experiencing a respite until round two rocked their world. No period lately? It’d always been a tad irregular. She was tired more than usual? Well, that was understandable what with her workload having just picked up a bit, one of the older Obliviators retiring, their backlogged cases being dumped on Adri's desk. She literally possessed an answer to everything…or so she thought. Everything could be explained. All the explanations made sense too—until she tried blaming the barely noticeable swelling of her abdomen on liquor intake. Even that seems like a plausible reason, right? Sure, besides the fact that she could only think of a very limited number of times she had drank the past few months and a second option of maybe she had just gained a few pounds from stress eating--between work and a few tucked away naggings in her mind about the way things were progressing with Augustus--also quickly fizzled out as Adriana was one of the people who ate less when stressed and even then, she’d been eating rather healthy the past few months and still exercised a few times a week. Adriana had officially run out of excuses—there was no longer denying the suspicion that she had tried banishing to the darkest recess of her mind.
After a morning spent on the bathroom floor, she’d thrown herself on the bed she and Augustus shared in misery—luckily the day being one of her rare days off and Augustus was away for a couple of days due to a series of away games—and lay there wallowing in self-pity to prolong the inevitable before searching for a good hour before finally finding the one place that seemed like it was in both a reasonable distance to travel and a far enough distance for her to not to have to worry about being spotted or her visit there being found out. It wasn't like she could go to St. Mungo's, both her and Augustus knew far too many people there. Her voice was a quiet mumble as she made an appointment for later that day, her eyes welling with tears—she didn’t want to take a home test, not wanting to risk Augustus somehow stumbling across any part of it and as far as she knew, there was no magical way, no spell she could mutter to find out the answer on her own. She couldn’t be right—there was no way she could let the suspicion be true. Augustus would hate her. He had too much on his mind to have time to bother with this, there was enough stress on his plate already as he tried his hand at cementing his spot on the team and the last thing she could afford to do was pile more ontop of him, let alone even more on herself. Besides, they'd never even spoken of a family--at least not in seriousness. Who was to say he even wanted one, or wanted one with her for that rather? Things were great between them currently, better than they'd ever been but there was still the worry that he was never going to fully be the settling down type and what kind of world was that to bring a baby into?
The only thing Adriana could think of during the three hours before her appointment was the fact that if she was right—…if she was pregnant…—he’d leave. As much faith as she had in their love, she somehow made herself believe that if presented with this problem, it would be enough to make him end everything, make him back away from her and the issue. Nothing in the world meant more to her than her relationship with Augustus, nothing was more speical to her than their love and she’d known since practically meeting him if she were honest with herself that he was the one for her, that one day she’d end up marrying him but there was no way to be certain that this was what he wanted. At least not at the current point in both of their lives, her career picking up and him with his blasted Quidditch.. He didn’t have time for this and Adriana could never and would never expect him to drop his life for her. The one thing she’d always wanted—a family of her—could actually be happening but if it cost her him in return? She couldn’t let it happen, she just couldn’t.
But as she drove to out of the way clinic she'd located, she knew she could never do something as drastic as aborting the baby, and she knew she’d never be able to live with adoption—knowing her child was out there somewhere without her. If she was pregnant…no, she couldn’t dwell on the fears—first she had to confirm it. All she could do was hope nothing came up on the little screen awaiting her at her destination.
Half an hour later, she lay on the small table, her shirt folded up over her chest, her stomach churning as she watched the witch--Adriana remembered something about Sonographer being said but her mind was too far away to having been paying much attention to the woman as she introduced herself--prepare the jelly. This may be a bit cold. Adri only nodded numbly, feeling the sharp sting of coldness against her skin but not registering it fully as she stared at the wall opposite her. She’d given them the urine and blood samples, answered a million and one questions, avoided making eye contact with the very few other women in the waiting room, afraid one would possibly recognize her and the world would know about her little visit before she’d even left the building, her gaze fixated on the floor while she’d been awaiting her name to be called. Now was the moment of truth, the samples seeming useless if all they needed to do was slap some cold goop on her stomach and run the traducer—the nurse had run down a list of things she’d be using, probably to try and calm any nerves the woman on the table may have, not that it’d done a damn thing for Adriana—over her stomach and see if anything was inside of her or not. Had she really needed to dig deep into her sex life with someone she didn’t know? Someone who had kept giving the young girl a look that Adriana knew was barely hidden disgust that another young, unmarried girl was sitting across from them again. It wasn’t like she’d meant for this to happen. Lord knows she had always wanted it, but when the time was right. When she was settled into life—preferably into married life—when her and Augustus, if he'd been the one she luckily got to end up with for the rest of her life, had planned for it, when they’d had amble time to discuss it ahead of time, not like this. Not out of the blue and unplanned. She’d always pictured a family—three or four kids, more if he wanted or less she really didn’t care as long as they were a family—her and Augustus raising their family together around his schedule, Adriana possibly leaving work until the kids were older if need be to raise them, no nannies or other people raising her children.
That vision and a ton of other naive fairy tale school-girl dreams she’d had about her one day life with Augustus were in serious jeopardy as the other witch took a seat on the stool next to the table and placed the device against her bared stomach. Please. Please. Please. It became a silent mantra in her mind. Part of her wondered if she meant please be empty or please let something appear, suddenly finding herself shockingly torn, the picture of a little boy with Augustus’ devilish smirk or a little girl with his beautiful blue eyes, dancing along behind the worries of what would happen if she was indeed pregnant. Let’s take a little looksie, shall we? Adri suddenly wanted to vomit. Lean to the side and vomit all over the squeaky clean floor. Not a sound left her, the only sounds coming from the beeping of the ultrasound machine as the soundwaves bounced around inside of her, trying to locate anything solid. Nervous? Adriana swallowed hard before nodding. “Yes, Ma’m.” She somehow choked out, her eyes welling with tears as she tried concentrating on the wall again. This may take a few minutes, Sweetie. Want to talk? Anything that makes you happy. She was relieved the nurse who had given her the third degree was a completely different woman then the one who currently held Adriana’s entire future in her hands, the one who could either keep her life intact or destroy it. She felt a little better—it didn’t seem like she was judging her, and that was exactly what she needed right now. Someone to understand. “Happy.” She echoed in a whisper as her eyes blindly studied the colorful moving posters on the wall. Only one thing popped into her mind. “His name is Augustus.” She said quietly, it slipping out before she’d thought twice and realized maybe the woman was a Quidditch fan, maybe even an English National fan and that the name would be familiar but breathed an inaudible sigh of relief over the fact that she'd only said his first name along with the hope that because of her age—maybe mid forties to early fifties—the woman didn't pay as much attention to the younger players as well as Adriana was beginning to realize a lot of witches did. Especially ones as attractive as good ol' Gussy was. Then again, even one the off chance she knew who he was, there was no way that she'd know enough about to realize who the girl laying by her side, shirt folded up to her chest was--Adriana wasn't even sure if anyone knew Augustus had a girlfriend, let alone a live-in one. Or at least she figured the groupies who lusted after the second string player didn't know or at least chose to ignore that unfortunate fact. The father? Are the two of you together? Again, unlike with the witch who had questioned her earlier, Adriana felt unjudged, instead feeling like this was a common question, an easier way than asking if it were say her boyfriend or her husband, many women who came through in this day and age most likely single. “My boyfriend” Her tone was still quiet, the beeps of the machine washing over here in thick, strangling waves. Really? Excuse me for being a bit shocked, I’ve grown so used to young girls not having the man in their life, so many of them barely even sure who the father could be—not that I assumed that was the case!
A small smile—her first all day—slipped into place as she shook her head and let her head turn to the side to glance at the other woman, the smile being her way of showing her she wasn’t offended and hadn’t thought she had been assuming that. “I’m not surprised. I know quite a few young girls are having kids both in the Muggle world and ours. Seems to be a common trend.” She replied. “As for being young, I suppose I am, we're only in our first year or so out of school but sometimes it feels like I'm ancient.” She added on, laughing when the woman hushed her and said that she was practically still in diapers compared to herself. How long as it been? Adriana took a moment to answer even though the smile stayed in place. "That's where it gets a bit complicated." She began, her mind drifting back over memories of their entire history together from that first moment in the Great Hall after the Sorting Hat. “We met in line waiting to be sorted. Ended up in the same house and we were inseparable from that day for a few years before we disastrously tried dating. We were young, we made mistakes but we learned from them and after trying out life on our own for almost a year we realized that no matter how much we butt heads..." Trailing off, she shrugged. "That there's no one we'd rather argue with than the other." Adriana laughed as she realized how very true that statement was. "He's a brat but he’s…the best.” She finally finished her sentence in a near whisper, her gaze having moved back to the ceiling above her as she spoke.
A series of rabid beeps from the machine made her head snap towards the Sonographer again. “What is that? What’s going on?” She asked, her eyes widening and shooting to the screen as the sounds turned into a steady beat. A steady beat that could only be one thing as a shaped formed on the screen. First, a little blur, then as the traducer ran over the same spot a few times, the image sharpened and there was no mistaking the steady beating for anything in the world other than what it was—the heartbeat of the baby inside of her. The proof that a mixture of both her and Augustus lay nestled in her safely in her womb. What do you think Mr. The Best is going to say about this? Silent for a moment as the woman hit print on the machine, Adriana just stared at the moving image of the small form inside of her, feeling as if the world had skidded to a stop, a feeling of dread sweeping throughout her body.
"He’s going to hate me." And with that, she burst into tears.

Adriana nearly laughed when he mimicked her but instead she fought it off and kept the mock look of serious etched on her face. "Well since the door was unlocked." She mimicked back in a high pitch voice, scrunching her nose at him. Letting her arms fall as he slid his hands down them, she let out an overly dramatic exasperated sigh as he joined their hands, a smile betraying her in the end as it edged onto her lips. "Oh, I do, do I?" She shot back, arching an eyebrow with a small laugh. "I don't know about that--you take up room and have been known to not only take up all the hot water and leave me in the cold but also inadvertently get soap in my poor eyes." Adriana joked before letting the smile fully take over. "Fine, I love it." She conceded a moment later because it was true after all. Then again, she loved having him anywhere in the house with her, it a remainder of how much things had changed and a hint at everything that would come in the future. Eventually....someday....maybe.
