| There is no quantifiable weight of pain, no way to be sure you cannot carry so much. The world is heavy, they tell you, too heavy for one person. But Atlas never faltered & you are a titanic force made up of stardust and dead things; billions of energy particles from thousands upon thousands of molecules from supernovas or undiscovered creatures from deep under the sea. You still belong to the sea. Salt water burns in your veins, spills from the universe on your back and soaks you to the bone. It steals your breath at midnight and leaks from every pore when you run. And you run and you run and you run in the hope that if enough seawater drips from you in sweat that you will no longer suffer the night and you will cease drowning. Instead you learn how to breathe underwater, how to keep yourself from crying at the sharp sting of salt in your eyes, how to ignore the bitter taste of it; guilt on your tongue, how to shoulder the world and make it seem effortless, how to appear to be floating even when you’re sinking. And you do so with a smile. |

"Brilliant an’ borked an’ pickled with salt," he said, though as for the last bit, he wasn’t sure what he meant.  "An’ I guess you’re Robin Lefler or or or yeah.  Bu’ way adorabler.  Tha’s a fun word, adorabler."

Perhaps it said something about her as a person that she was far more interested in how he could sense that about her than she was in the fact it was actually true. Of course she was overjoyed at the pregnancy, but he seemed to be scenting her and she was curious as to how that worked.
"I see that. Yes, it's me."
Tumblr media
His sights flew to her,  and  examined her carefully, as he drew in a long breath to sense out the scent of changing hormones that seemed to waft about her.  Curiously,  he  tilted his head, and an look of placidity met his features, quietly happy for her.
      ❛ I can…sen-se it. I am…skilled at—it, ❜ he            sufficed to say. ❛ It is…you? ❜
