Genre and anti-genre, satisfaction and subversion. Why Community is so much fun for me as a geek, why TBBT isn't, and why I'm actually into that, (but you don't have to be.) I'm going to try and defend TBBT too, but defending TBBT turns out to look a lot like trashing TBBT, so something here for everyone.I don't want to generalize about Science Fiction and Fantasy, because they're very big genres with a lot of different and interesting things going on in them, but I'm going to do it a bit anyway. I think Community speaks not just to a certain classic, basic genre narrative - the band of outcasts who come together in the extraordinary place for a story of personal growth - but also to a certain genre ideology, if you will - an ideology of change and possibility.
