Produce 101 - Defending SoHye-Ssi

Okay. I’ve been away from Tumblr for quite a long time now, but I couldn’t resist it. I’m watching the new Mnet survival show “Produce 101″ and I find it amazing how people can hate someone just because a TV show is focusing on her.

Kim SoHye, for those who don’t follow the show, is a trainee of an Actor’s agency called “Redline Ent.”. She actually entered the competition by mistake, thinking she was subscribing for a musical selection (haha! she won me by then). In the first audition, in front of the trainers, she sang DIA’s song (DIA’s members are on the show too) and it was terrible, but when the trainers asked her to show her acting skills, she nailed it. Well, SoHye went to the worst group (F) and got to wear a grey uniform.

But then, after the second episode, it was time for the performances for an audience of a thousand people. She went to Kim SeJeong’s (current #1 and my bias) group and got the leader’s help. SeJeong was the responsible for that final push so that SoHye would realize that she couldn’t believe in that story that she was an ugly duckling. SoHye improved with SeJeong’s friendly and sincere help. They’ve performed Wonder Girls “Irony”.

Since “Irony”, SoHye gathered a good amount of fans (me included), but also a lot of haters, that blame her for being on the center of Mnet’s attention in order to win audience for that “Ugly Duckling” story. 

I know about the bullshit argument people are using that “there are many trainees there that deserved her spot, because they trained hard for years and are really talented in dancing and singing”. But for me, what makes an idol is not the looks, not just the dancing. My idols are not people who look only after themselves, my idols are always hardworking people, who didn’t give up, who help others in their hard times, my idols are people of good character. I can look into my idols’ eyes and see their souls, because they show it in their eyes.

I vote for kind hearted and hardworking people like Kim SeJeong, Jeon Somi, Jeon SoYeon and Kim SoHye. I vote for them not because they look good on stage, but because I saw their kindness with their team mates and “rivals”.

I really think it’s lame to distill all the poison people have upon someone that haven’t done anything to them. That’s just mean. I don’t support SoHye because I pitty her as some people like to imply on ther comments. I support her because she makes me remember that I was once like her and that I didn’t have a SeJeong to help me improve, but I had Kim HyoYeon saving me from my depression and making me see that I could be awesome too if I just fought for it.

If SoHye wants it, she can have it! And those who are saying awful things about her, swallow your own venom. You could stop being such ignorant beings full of hatred and envy, and start seeing that people can achieve something they/you believed impossible. That’s what Kim SoHye is doing, if she fails (what I’m making my efforts to avoid), at least she fought for it and didn’t give up. Many of us regret something. I regret not going to High School and acquiring the necessary knowledge for the national university entrance exam. SoHye would certainly regret it if she gave up, because in an alternate universe, she would have made it.

Think about your own lives. You wouldn’t give up a chance like this if you were SoHye. Don’t be a hypocrite, improve your mood and your spirit, because if you are really hating a teenager that’s fighting for her own success, there’s definitelly something very wrong with you.

Promise

Promise.

Do you still remember?

Then, you were happy.

But one day, he changed. 

He does not care for you as much as before. He does not sweet talk you as often. He would no longer get so worried about you to the point he’ll cry just because your sick.

Do you still remember he promised that as long as he lives for one day, he would love you. You will be the only one for him and he would never let you go.

But now? The one beside him is no longer you. The one holding his hands is no longer you.

Why can a promise be broken so easily?

He broke up with you. The reason? Your not interesting to him anymore.

He heartlessly chased you out of the house that once belong to you both.

Thinking of it, you teared again.

Without him, you needed sleeping pills to fall asleep but every night you still wake up crying. Crying for him.

You became slim. You no longer smile. You no longer talk as much as before.

Just like a zombie, without him, you don’t know how to continue living.

You had enough of this life.

You went to his house. The key always with you, he never wanted it back.

You opened the door.

Walking into the oh so familiar house.

Seeing him sound asleep, you could not help but touch his face, feeling his features.

He awoke feeling a cold hand on his face, he saw that it was you.

“Who allowed you to come! Get out of here.”

He said in a cold tone.

Suddenly, your hands tainted red.

You stabbed him.

“You..”

“Park Chanyeol. Do you still remember the promise?”

“You said that as long as your living, you would only love me. But now?”

“Does this promise just mean so little to you?”

“Because of you, I lived like I wasn’t human. Now that you no longer love me, you should pay the price for the promise. Because of your promise you made me believe that you loved me. Shouldn’t you take responsibility.” Your tone shaking as you spoke.

He opened his mouth but closed it again, falling to the bed, eyes closed.

With that, you picked up the knife and stabbed yourself.

We can’t be together this life. Let’s be together in our next life.

I’m sorry, Park Chanyeol. I love you.

I'm sure many of you know how Lay is injured because of fliming and I really don't know what to say. We all know how hardworking Lay is and this pains me to know he would not take care of himself enough. Zhang Yixing, get well soon! Please do not work so hard again. We would understand!

“Luhan.. Where are you.” Sehun paced down up and down the living room, hands in his pockets.

“Can’t you just answer my call..”

Ding.

Sehun’s phone lit up and he ran to the table.

On the lock screen, it was his selca with Luhan.

His heart tightened.

He opened up the chat he had with Luhan.

It was a voice message.

“Sehun. I’m leaving. Sorry for not saying goodbye. You always asked me why I did not agree to be with you. We both know that this is impossible. I have to return to Beijing sooner or later. Your life just started.. There are so much wonderful stuff, wonderful people that are worthy for you. Liking someone doesn’t mean you have to end up together right.. We.. We’ll meet if fate means. “Baobei! It is not what you think!” He pushed the girl away and moved quickly infront of me. I shook my head and turned to leave. Grabbing my hands, he used them to slap his own face.

“Baobei. I’m sorry! Please do not leave..” He repeated over and over again.

“Xing. It’s too late. You broke the promise over and over again.” I shook off his grip, picking up the fallen item.

“What is that..”

“The guitar you wanted forever. You can have it if you want.“ You placed it at the side before running off. Only at this moment, your tears fell.

He was all you wanted but things do not always work out.

“Zhang Yixing. I really love you..” I mumbled, facing the sky.

“Of course!” I almost laughed at his looks which seems as if a kid trying to act like an adult.

Therefore he recorded the following greeting.

“大家好! 我是張藝興. 新的一年裡祝大家猴年行大運，猴年猴開心. Hi everybody! I am Zhang Yixing. In the new year I hope everyone would *Chinese new year greeting with the reference to monkey as it is the monkey year.”

Although this is a very short greeting, he took around 3 times to complete, failing for the first two time as he forgot what he was going to say.

“Many say that I am stupid,” He mentioned with a serious look to the workers there, “But I am not stupid, just slow in reaction only.”

“Yes, slow reaction.” He repeated with emphasis, like he was giving himself an assurance.

“Your not stupid! Just 呆萌 (it means how cute someone is when they are blur.) I smiled at him.

“呆萌?” He hesitated for a while, “That just means stupid.”

The whole place stunned for a minute before breaking into laugher.

At this moment, my impression of him still remains at the fact that he is a member of EXO, knowing that he can dance and sing and even writes his own song. He even performed his song in public while playing the piano.

I know he has a very good temper and is very friendly and I also know that people was actually not interested in the kpop trend would also become a fan of him after watching him at 《極限挑戰》《Go Fighting!》.

However, seeing him sitting in front of me, I feel that he seems more realistic.

He has manners and seems as if he is really well-behaved. To every questions asked, he would think through carefully before answering. He always say that his reaction is slow but I think he is actually afraid of letting people down so no matter what he does, he is very careful in it.

I have seen many singers and actors, some carefully managing their career whereas some already very popular, some trying to succeed with small efforts, some really proud. However Zhang Yixing is different from them.

He would not take the initiative to try to know you but he seems like your next door neighbors’ brother, and would make you seem really friendly towards. Even talking to him makes you feel at ease. He wouldn’t be too formal nor too cold. Sometimes he even makes you feel like protecting him.

The him on stage seems so brilliant but beside you, he would remain humble and seems so defenceless. He is a really clean boy.

I suddenly understood why 紅孫雷 (hong sun lei) likes him so much.

“Let us just relax and talk.” I said, worried he would be too scared.

“How relaxed?” He smiled and lay in his chair, “Like this?”

I did the same : “Of course, we can all talk like this.”

He burst into laughter.

“These few years, you tried so many different jobs. Which to you is more tough? Singing or acting?”

“Wanting to do something well is hard, especially to me. I want to be a good artiste. I even wanna be an artist in the future. Now I am trying to make my workplace have a small project therefore I need to put in more effort in everything.” He said responsibily.

“For the upcoming year, would you be putting your focus on acting or music?”

“I would first like to revise through the stuff i acted and till June when fliming finishes. I want to use the second half of the ear to view every single work by me. I want to really know what I could have done better.

He does not deny that he need improvement on his acting. He looks at me sincerely and says that he regrets not doing stuff more perfectly. He knows he needs more space for improvement, therefore he is honored to be able to find his mistakes through people’s criticism. He uses a positive mood to face his changes and this is a rare charm in people.

“Of course, I would not delay the music as well.” He repeated numerous time.

“Your fans reminded me to ask if you would be releasing your solo album this year.” He seemed a bit regretful but answered my question quickly. “This would have to look at different circumstances. If you ask me, I would say “Release it tomorrow.” but this is not possible. I guess I just have to wait patiently but I have already made preps for it.

I know many people are waiting for his album and I know towards a singer who writes, having a solo album is something they dream of.

At this time, his view moved to the floor as he rubbed his lips and laughed softly, as if he has many troubles.

“I don’t wish to patronize anyone or anything. Therefore I wish that the album would have the best quality. Like the countdown this year, I rehearsed almost 10 times and I am grateful for the workers who allowed me to do so. To me, this performances is something new and I do not wish to waste any opportunity therefore I try my very best and do it the best I can.

He was very sincere in what he said.

“Have you ever thought of trying something new in music?

“I want those kind that would make the crowd go high with my music. As long as the stage is great, the music is awesome, I believe the crowd would go high with me.” His eyes seem to spark saying it. “I believe among the crowd, would be Hong Sun Lei as well.” I laughed looking at him.

“Maybe.” He said, smiling softly.

“How would you evaluate this brother?”

“Me and Hong Suan Lei are working on a new movie called 《好先生》. I’ve seen his seriousness towards this movie and his professionalism. Regarding acting, when me and him act, we would laugh and NG. I find him very cute at that time.” He laughed making me wonder what happened during their fliming process.

The image of Hong Sun Lei on the big screen is always very friendly. He acted on various roles and his acting skills is really food.

But every time he is with Yixing, he seems very protective of him. Caring for this young adult a lot.

“In many’s impression, he is not a really friendly guy so we really like seeing your interactions with him. What do you think is your role in Go Fighting!? Is it to act cute or?”

He seem to like this question a lot as he told me : “Many said that my role is to act cute but I think when your facing people who are 20 years older than you, your character and personality is fixed. What can I do? It makes me so happy just to be able to flim with them.I am not acting cute but it is under those circumstances, I just seem cuter.”

“Why does Hong Sun Lei like you so much?”

“He is a really good actor and when we are acting, he knows when to relax and when to be serious. He said he like how real I am and therefore I keep presenting my real side to the audience.”

Speaking to here, He smiles sheepishly.

Yixing’s true self, is what is so rare in the entertainment industry.

It is not the first time I heard such things form his fans. He would treat his members so well, work hard for any performances and trust people easily although some say his too innocent but I think being able to have such a mindset even though he is in the industry for so long is really rare and precious.

Hong Sun Lei is an experienced artiste. In the program, he looks at Yixing with an spark in his eyes and it is feelings that cannot be hidden. He knows this boy is very good and rare that’s why he takes extra care of him.

To achieve good-will with good-will, it is only possible with Yixing.

“I really admire them. Like Huang Bo. I find that they have a manly nature right from their bones. Their charms makes me speechless.” He said laughing. Although we are indoor, his face seems so bright. “So I am really not acting cute. In that situation, I can only do that."

Now that he became Pancoat’s spokesperson, he led many in China know of this brand this brand. Something interesting is that when he first got to Korea, the first brand of clothes he wanted to buy is by Pancoat and now he is the spokesperson for them. This to many people is as if a dream.

He seriously like this brand so every reply is really amazing. “It has a style that is really young and energetic. This makes the concept really special. Many do not know about this brand but I hope soon many more knows about it!"

“What do you think is a must-have in a guy’s wardrobe?”

“Something cute but nice to wear. Yes, an item by Pancoat.”

He is seriously such a professional spokesperson.

“I cannot imagine what Hong Sun Lei would like wearing a cute series by Pancoat.” I closed my eyes and tried to imagine but the image is horrible.

“He likes it a lot!” When he spoke about the Hong Sun Lei he respects a lot, his eyes sparkled. “He actually likes cute stuff and sweet stuff. Huang Bo also likes this kind of shirts!"

“What is the brand you like recently?”

“Of course it is Pancoat!”

“Your definitely not slow in reaction. Nor stupid.” I laughed at how eager he is to promote the brand.

“Recently I have been so busy in work and have no time to shop.” He smiled sadly. “Quite sad….”

He is really sincere in doing every mission and his serious look would make people think as if he is really putting his effort to play the game.

He did things he has never done before in this years. He did not try to distance himself from his fans. Instead, he walked closer to them.

He is very down to earth.

"What is the most challenging thing to you in Go Fighting! Is it the missions? Or being with others.”

“The toughest part is not being able to change my personality. I think that something is like this even if the director tells me so, I would still think it in my way. Even when the big brothers tell me it is not, I am still stubborn. This is something I need to change but it is very hard for me.”

“How does it feel to be an idol? Is it different from what you think?”

“Idols would have a time where they lose their popularity.” He said truthfully. “I may not be popular one day but as an idol, I wish to give people energy when they like me and let them see a role model from me. I want them to feel that encouragement and that is pleasing enough to me."

“Fans from all over the world comes to fetch you from the airport, what do you think?”

He cares about his fans. Whatever his fans does, he would think if it makes them happy. If it does, he would try his best to cooperate.

His fans has such a status in his heart.

“What does EXO mean to you?”

“It means a team. A family.” He said it with determination. “It something I cannot live without. This group gave me the energy to go on. It also lets me see what a wolf personality is and my perseverance.”

“When did you start thinking your a family?”

“I did not have this feeling at first. I thought we were just colleagues. But we slowly became family and became closer. I can feel their motivation and their thoughts. Even though we do not say, but when we meet, we would smile and hug. This small actions tell me that we are a family as time passes. We are already a family.” He said slowly, his emotions coming up.

“You don’t say it on the mouth but your actions show it.”

“Yeah.” He replied honestly.

“What a proud family.” I smiled.

“Yeah. We are definitely proud!” He smiled proudly.

"I want to ask you a special question — I know many artiste want to share this but they are not given the chance to ask so they did not say — Therefore, I wanna ask you : What do you wanna ask yourself the most?”

He hesitated, not knowing I will give him such an hard question.

He thought it through as his face showed emotions that I cannot decipher.

“I want to ask Zhang Yixing — Are you tired?” He looked at me, mumbling.

“Then are you tired?” I asked.

He sighed and looked at afar. His eyes showing tiredness. He was quiet. This moment, he seem to not be his age.

He was quiet for a long time and I smiled to help him along, with a couple laughs. It was really bitter though.

I know this boy has no qualifications to have fun as he has too much burdens with him. He carries burdens that many do not kow.

He has no freedom, no entertainment, to a point that he cannot cry or laugh as he wishes.

For his dreams, he walked a path tougher than anyone but more accomplished that anyone. He never complains but is happy he has a chance to go higher than others.

But is he tired or not?

I think everybody knows it truly.

But for him to say it out, this bitter emotions are more real.

He did not say anything.

Throwing alway his glamorous side, he sat quietly.

Looking at me yet not at me. His sight was not focused. Like the bubbles in the air. You can even hear the light bulb having small sounds. But he just sat there, asking himself the question but refusing to answer.

“I think your happy. Although it is tough but your getting so much in return.” I answered for him.

“Yes. Yes.” He said softly, sighing.

“I wish any body who likes me would not be disappointed in me.” He went silent before speaking again. “I have my dreams. I wish that my music would let the world know me more.”

This blur yet elegance boy, he is working so hard for his dreams as if it is something he would not stop to achieve.

“Like when I was dancing at the NBA, many americans came to clap for me, saying “You dance very well!” This makes me happy. I wish our country has more things and people that foreigners would compliment us.

“With someone like you, we would have more creations that would awe the world.”

“I will work hard.” He said, sincerely.

His face is full of true sincerity.

He is such a great boy.

When the conversation ended, he stood from the seat and bowed.

I bowed back and when I raised my head, I saw his tired yet full of determination’s sight.

“Lay is a little tired.” I smiled and said.

“Lay is not tired !"

This boy, in front of me picked up his confidence and got brave.
