Really thought about having my Last.fm scrobble my music from my audio player on my phone but then that would mean a lot of doctoring up their metadata and then deleting some unneeded garbage I don't listen to enough...

Plus I'm not even sure how many people know that the same dude that does the classic Windows virus videos done an album that's an arrangement of the Sonic 3K OST as chip tunes that I snagged from Archive.org.

I know it's been ages since I've last touched my websites (Neocities and Nekoweb), but I already crave the itch to work on them more. All these ideas in my head for graphics and web design but no PC access to put them into code and fruition. I've tried doing so on Mobile but the limited amount of screen real estate and not very tactile keyboard makes it difficult.

Already established on the idea for Neocities being my personal site and leaving the name Strawberry Mountain Dew alone... I might change it down the line considering that Pepsi Co might not take it too kindly for a fan to use their trademark brand. It would have some form of links to Carrd and Lit.Link respectfully as well as my DreamWidth for the journal/blog.

The Nekoweb half of things is a bit up in the air still... I had thought about changing it into an online art portfolio and just linking it to my art socials proper. Naming convention is a bit different and thought about using the *name* experience in Japanese (roughly translated to experience of Julie).

Problem is - again - no PC to really do it in a decent workspace.

Hi everyone! So! Things are not going well for me here!

My mom's currently at the hospital with many health problems, one of them being cancer (and we don't even know wich one), basically paralyzed because of the severe pain she's in. Apparently we're not even sure she's treatable (the doctors are a bit lost, from what i understand). I really want to go see her, the problem is that she lives oversea and plane tickets aren't cheap.

So I made a ko-fi page. Not only you can donate to me there (even the littlest bit of money will be greatly appreciated!!), but I also made a commission page if you'd like to receive a drawing in exchange of your money! Yearly reminder to everyone trying to find alternatives to tumblr/social media in general: go make a Neocities account and teach yourself basic HTML and post your art/writing/shitposts there.

It does take extra time to set up (but there are templates out there!) but it is so so worth it to have a site that is 100% YOURS!

You don’t even have to be that good at coding. I’m not. My site is not very accessible via mobile devices but that is fine with me (keeps me off my phone) but there are plenty of ways to make your site mobile friendly. There are plenty of bare bones/accessible sites I adore purely for the media on it.

Imagine having your site on your phone and showing someone- hey! I coded this from scratch. And I didn’t even have to pay a company like squarespace. All your images, links, writings, in one place. I have my fandom edits, memes, fanart, and custom graphics there.

Neocities has a very bare bones follower and comment system, but you can disable this if you want your site to truly abstain from any social media-isms. I use it because its a great way to meet other webmasters and get help with coding problems. Neocities isn't an exact replacement for Tumblr (no reblogging here) but html coding is an invaluable skill to know, as is keeping a personal website in this day in age.

The awesome thing about having your own website is if, god forbid, Neocities goes down, you can move your site to any other number of hosting platforms (like Teacake.org). Your site is truly YOURS, and no one else (shitty tech CEO cough cough) can take it away from you.

YOU MUST MAKE A WEBSITE

Oh wow, look at that! YET ANOTHER post urging you to make a webbed site! What a completely new thing that people haven't made a thousand masterposts for already!!

• Making a website might look scary. It is Not.

At first, I too thought making a website was too much work. It really isn't! It turns out that all you need is

an HTML file,

a web hosting service and

w3schools tutorials,

and that's about it!

This post will point you towards these resources, and others I found useful while figuring out how to make a website.

• VERY QUICK EXPLANATIONS:

What's HTML and CSS?

HTML is the content of your webpage, the skeleton of it. What shows up in a webpage is what's written in the HTML file!

CSS is the way the HTML is styled; the colour of the background and the letters, the size of elements, the font, all that!

Do I absolutely NEED JavaScript for a website?

Not at all! You don't need to worry about learning it before getting started.

• What do I make a website for? What do I put in there?

ANYTHING AND ALMOST EVERYTHING. Here's some ideas for pages from a post of mine were I was very normal about websites:

You can make a page that's only pictures of your pets.

You can make an interactive adventure.

You can make your own academic blog full of your own essays or articles.

You can just post a ton of art or make a full music page.

You can make a blog and infodump eternally, give book reccs and reviews. You can host a thousand virtual pets and nothing else.

Upload entire books in a single html file. Make a wikipedia for your ocs. Make a fake site for a random fictional place (restaurant, hotel, whatever). You can make a thousand fanpages/shrines about your favorite media. You can upload your own webcomic and make it all like a fancy website and shit.

I could keep going but, for the sake of "brevity", I won't.

When I first started, my website was a black page with red letters and a drawing, and nothing else! It was like that for a month, till i started picking up on how to do things.

I recommend Brackets, because my old as fuck computer can run that and absolutely nothing else apparently, and it works wonderfully! Though I recommend either turning off the code autocomplete or using it after a good while of already using the Neocities code editor, so you get used to coding on your own.
