   Every time when you are introducing yourselves to others, you must be asked that what is your hobby. You will hesitate to think for a moment. But for me, what I am proud of is my good handwriting which is the result of calligraphy for many years. Unlike others, making fun or being outgoing is a kind of skill which is born with. When it comes to calligraphy, I believe I can have a lot to say. Speaking of calligraphy, it is one of the cultural tradition in China. I have learnt it since I was 6 years old. In the beginning, I was unwilling to take the class and begged my mother to let me stay at home. However, I was forced to go to the class and have the first class. In the first class, we only learnt some easiest strokes and Chinese characters such as ‘大’. The process is different from what I thought before. Because of my curiosity, I stick to practicing and taking the level test. To be honest, a successful Chinese character needs many efforts and patience. Whenever it is winter or summer, practicing the characters every day is required to gain final achievement, which is a process of accumulation. Thanks to my mother and my persistence, calligraphy gradually becomes one thing that I am satisfied with. After I compete the whole level tests, I can have much more time to create my own works. An excellent work is a catalyst of my confidence to any other matters. What I harvest is not only a skill of calligraphy but also perseverance and calm. In china, a good handwriting can play an important role in others’ first impression. Probably a person’s handwriting can imply his characteristics through a way he writes. Therefore, when people ask me what I can do, I will definitely reply with calligraphy. After all, calligraphy is an only ability which accompanies me along with my growth.

My name is zhuting gong. My first name is zhuting and last name is gong. In China, we put last name in front of the first name. Therefore, my name in Chinese is gong zhuting. Speaking of my name, ‘zhu’ implies bamboo, which in Chinese is one of the four gentlemen in flowers. The other three is plum, orchid and chrysanthemum. Bamboos have empty stems, usually growing unimaginably fast. The reason why I was given this word is that bamboo is especially difficult to be broken, which shows a kind of sheer tenacity. Moreover, ‘ting’ in Chinese often means nice character. In the past of China, people usually use ‘ting’ to praise those girls who have noble temperament and elegant manners. I was given this name for my family hopes that when I grow up, I can become a person who does everything and meet every obstacle with strong-will and refined character. They expect that whenever I am in trouble, I can never give up. In my opinion, I really love my name for it shows what I am seeking for. Now I am still on the way to reach that degree. It gradually shapes my personality and cast myself.

When I live in China, almost every person who met me for the first time would mispronounce it. In china, ‘gong zhu’ is homophonic to the princess. Thus, every person is surprised at first and then laughs. Every time I introduce myself to others, I always add that it is not pronounce as the word of princess. I really love my name because I can make many friends through this special experience.

On naming any future children, I think I will give her a name which is totally different with others. The name is another identity of a person. It will directly influence the first impression in others’ mind. I wish that the name I give my children can enable her to stand out from peers!

  There is no doubt that everyone loves traveling. But when you plan to go out, a luggage case must be needed to put all your personal items into it. Before the travel, it was empty and had few things in it, however, after I came back it definitely is full of local souvenirs. I am really interested in collecting unique items from all over the world, which seems that I have left my footprints on this place. Speaking of an object I own that I consider cool, it must be this storm glass weather predictor. My best friends give it to me as my 18thbirthday present. Cloth tigers!

Many people think it is old-fashioned and looks strange, however, it is an absolute cool thing for me. I bought these two hand-made tigers from a small store in Beijing occasionally. It is made of cotton. To some extent, hand-made tigers are one of the old traditions of China. When I was a kid, I really love these hand-made tigers. How pretty they are! They usually have big head, large eyes, large mouth, and big tail to emphasize their courageous demeanor. Also they has a variety of forms such as single-headed tigers, double-headed tigers and pillow tiger. Now even though I grow up, I still like these hand-made tigers. But now they represent the Chinese old culture. In the past, tigers are symbols of power and strength which people seek for all the time. Some ingenious people began to make hand-made tigers for the purpose of good luck and peace. Tiger-head and facial features are often naive and childlike, just like the innocence of lovely children. Soon these tigers become popular among people, gradually being one of the representatives of china. Sometimes, Chinese give these hand-made tigers to the new-born as a good blessing, hoping to avoid disease and misfortunate and meaning health, strength and courage. Thus, cloth tigers are so cool for me !
