INFORMATIVE-EDUCATIONAL POST: Why RivaMika is NOT incest – a thread. (Part 1)

Just a reminder that this is not meant to undermine any other ship, but for informative purposes only. This ended up being too long, so I had to split it into 2 parts to make sure none is missed. It is supposed to be an educational post too, after all.

Now first of all, let us define incest. The following definitions have been taken from good sources on the web including the Merriam-Webster dictionary and app. Phrases and words have been highlighted for convenience and address bars have been retained for reference.

Now that you know what the word means, let us move on to the discussion as to why it is not applicable to RivaMika.

Look at the following canon diagram released by Isayama himself in the manga explaining the Ackermans and their origin. The two wavy lines indicate a break in the lineage connection from its original ancestor, which means generations have already passed since then. Therefore, Levi and Mikasa are not closely related.

Now take a look at this Wiki. This is considered canon since its sources and references are from the manga itself. Rough translation to English also indicates as family but let's take a closer look at the kanji symbols and how they're used.

Ichizoku and Ke are specifically used and not Kazoku, which is the actual Japanese word for family. I believe that Yams used these terms to explain that Levi and Mikasa are not part of a small social unit but a big societal group. Observe the differences.

Now I know there is ancestry there as well, but let me remind you that Yams also mentioned that the Eldian race also has one bloodline - Ymir's. But does that make any AoT/SnK ship incest? No.

Think of it this way. Japanese have Japanese blood and ancestry. Germans have German blood and ancestry. But are they all related just because they are Japanese, or German? No.

Ever heard of Adam and Eve from the Holy Bible itself? Yes, they are the ancestors of the entire human race. But are the 7 billion people in the world related? No.

Now that we've established that, let's talk about clans. Please see the following definitions.
