"To Sherlock Holmes she is always the woman. I have seldom heard him mention her under any other name. In his eyes she eclipses and predominates the whole of her sex. It was not that he felt any emotion akin to love for Irene Adler. All emotions, and that one particularly, were abhorrent to his cold, precise but admirably balanced mind. He was, I take it, the most perfect reasoning and observing machine that the world has seen.... And yet there was but one woman to him, and that woman was the late Irene Adler, of dubious and questionable memory."

Maybe it is due to the german translation, but the wording (directly translated back to english in the picture) is makeing the investigation scene of "a study in scarlet" maybe a little more odd than nessecary.
His mind works in mysterious ways sometimes.
tfw the inspectors who called for your aid are both too shortsighted to see the simplest clues, and you just lie down on the floor for a moment screaming internally, just to avoid becoming a supervillain.

It still amuses me greatly, how strongly Sir Doyle wanted his own creation dead.
So much so , that when he published "the final Problem", he wrote "killed Holmes" into his diary.
Only to get SO MUCH outcry and backlash by fans, that he canonically revived the character in 1903, "The Empty House".
(After writing "Hound of the baskervilles")

The worst thing I ever did to Raymond on my island, and it only stood there for like 10 minutes open air storage.
