I love natsume yuujinchou so much

it's so cathartic, about how the stuff that happens to you as a kid breaks you down over time and that healing is slow but possible

it is such a sweet and loving show about living a good life surrounded by people after surviving a scary, lonely adolescence.

also nyanko-sensei is the best deconstruction of a mascot character that I've ever seen. mascot character who is an alcoholic. mascot character who doubles as a father figure to the protagonist. who else is doing it like natsume yuujinchou

This scene from s3ep13 is so short, but has such a huge impact...

Firstly, we see natsume watching other kids play shadow tag. After a bit all of them end up going home and natsume ends up fully alone

That is until madara finds natsume and calls out to him. He comes back to the present and sees madara at the top of the hole.

This part can be read multiple ways. Natsume is afraid that once he leaves the hole, the positives of his life will end. Madara asking natsume if hes going to hide down there forever can directly be understood as “are you going to live in your past forever?” Although Natsume wants to cherish the positives in his current life, he often regresses back to his past.

Even though natsume cannot get up, he still wants to. He just needs help, whether it is from humans or yokai...
