In the Alps of the late 1800's, they developed a unique method of skiing using wider skis and higher stiffer boots. Alpine is downhill skiing, and Nordic is cross-country. You do not even need to know the first thing about skiing before you decide to reach the resort - all an awareness you will want is there awaiting you, and you can literally be skiing down a mountain after an hour of instruction. Brad Groden is really a somewhat retired economic and bank loan expert that could be searching for part time employment. Comics and Boba Tea
This may be the most beneficial post we discovered all day long.
Tumblr media
This year Ive been focusing on reading all the things to make up for all the time I wasnt reading. My reading challenge (you can read about it here) has been focused books/novels, but when I am in-between books I go back to comics. Ive been lightly reading comics for a while now, but have really gotten into more and more characters lately. I mainly read series that have badass ladies as the main character. Nothing wrong with the dudes (hey Captain America!) but I definitely want to support the leading ladies. Feel that women have been making a bigger appearance in comics and this makes me so happy and hopefully we get more comics (and movies!) with these characters. Sidenote: Im still bitter that we never got our Black Widow movie. Lately on Nicks day off we started mini-tradition (can we call it a tradition?) where we get some boba tea and then head on over to the local comic book shop to see the latest. Its been such a fun way to learn more about my favorite characters and to see all the Iron Man statues that I plan on getting Nick once we win the lottery. :) So I wanted to share some of the latest series Ive been reading. All these comics feature amazing and badass women and all these issues are available within the Marvel Unlimited App. Its $9.99 or $69 per year. We have the yearly membership and its so worth it because buying all the comics gets pricey real fast. 1. Black Widow 2014. Anything that has Black Widow is amazing. She is unstoppable and in this series they do a little back story, which I always appreciate. They show her dark side and how she doesnt allow her past to define who she is. Its great. Go read it. 2. Ms. Marvel AKA Kamala Khan. Make sure to start this series from the beginning because its SOOO GOOD. This is a series that I recommend to everyone. It focuses on how it feels to be different, body image issues, gaining confidence, and family. You see Kamala learn that being a hero isnt always easy and that its ok to not know how to do all the things. I really love how powerful this story is and it makes me happy thinking that young girls are reading it and learning that we can all create change in the world. 3. Spider-Gwen. This storyline takes place in an alternate Earth (there are a lot of universes in the Marvel Universe) that focuses on Gwen getting bitten by the spider instead of Peter Parker. At first I thought it was just going to be a genderbent series that wouldnt be too good. I was wrong. Spider-Gwen is 4. Gwen Poole. Another universe with a different Gwen. In this series Gwen knows that she is in a comic bookand she doesnt really have any powers. And thats what make her awesome and hilarious. Its a fun series to read and I love seeing all her cute backpacks (she has a shark backpack!). 5. Silk. A friend recommended this series and I am so happy about it. Silk doesnt play around. After being bitten by the same spider that bit Spiderman, she was then captured and taken to a bunker to live. This story focuses on what happens after she has escape. She is a character with a dark past and trying to move forward (but having some trouble with that). Read it. So worth it. These are just a few of the amazing characters that Marvel has to offer and I hope you enjoy these plus discover new favorites! And if you have any recommendations feel free to leave a comment! Im always looking for new characters. xo, Melissa http://www.blushandjelly.com/blog/2017/09/comics-boba-tea.html

National Pulled Pork Day is October 12th at Sonny's BBQ
Take a look at this post and let us read your comments.
Tumblr media
There's a "National Day" for almost any kind of food. You're probably familiar with "National Donut Day on the first Friday of June, and "National Ice Cream Day" on the third Sunday of July. But did you know "National Chop Suey Day" is August 29th, or that April 24th is "National Pigs in a Blanket Day?" Yea, it's getting out of hand. So what's one more, right? October 12th is "National Pulled Pork Day" as ordained by Sonny's BBQ. That's a day I can get behind. On that day, Sonny's is offering up $1 Pulled Pork Sliders and, through Oct. 15th, $1 off it's pulled pork menu items: Redneck Egg Rolls, Pulled Pork Dinners and Pulled Pork Sandwiches. So, why not come celebrate the majesty and magic of pulled pork with me this Thursday at Sonny's BBQ? It's a date. #nationalpulledporkday http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/EatingOrlando/~3/j-neAKv4Qys/national-pulled-pork-day-is-october.html

Teen killed in Avalon Lakes shooting identified
Here's a awesome read. The Orange County Sheriffs Office identified the 17-year-old boy killed in a shooting Thursday night as Jene Rene Gonzalez, though no new details about what led to the killing were released. In a statement, the Sheriffs Office described Jene as a suspect in an incident that ended in his death. The agency previously said deputies were called to a home on Echo Lake Court, in the Avalon Lakes subdivision in east Orange County, about 8:45 p.m. after reports of a burglary and gunfire. They arrived to find Jene, who had suffered a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, some residents in the area expressed concerns about the incident. Richie Cruz, 54, heard about the shooting early Friday from his wife. He said the shooting was rare for the neighborhood, but residents are still on edge about being targeted in a home invasion. People are scared, he said. Youll be met with deadly force. If you live in this area, it must mean its because you worked hard to be here, added Cruz, who works for a moving company and has lived in Avalon Park for 10 years. Glendalis Rivera, 37, who has lived in the Avalon Park area for about seven years, said the incident struck her as extremely rare. We have thought about leaving this area in the past because its pretty expensive, but weve stayed precisely because of the safety and stability of the neighborhood, said Rivera, who lives with her mother, Mirna Rodriguez, 66. She said the Thursday night shooting reaffirmed her desire to arm herself. Actually, tomorrow were going to take a class so we can carry weapons because you just have to do it, she said. Tammy Howard, 55, has lived near Avalon Lakes for most of her life. She said car burglaries and home invasions are routine crimes in the area. It doesnt matter where youre at, theyre going to do what theyre going to do, said Howard, who added that her car has been broken into multiple times in the past. Detectives are investigating the shooting, the Sheriffs Office said. Photo via Plant Street Market/Instagram This Little Piggy went to market, indeed. A new barbecue spot,This Little Piggy, opened recently in the Plant Street Market in historic downtown Winter Garden. The restaurant held a grand opening event on Feb. 10, where chef-owner Matthew Sheeter debuted his made-from-scratch fare. With a passion for Southern cuisine and barbecue, this Ohio native had no second thoughts when he heard a spot opened up in the market, he told the Orange Observer. The new joint is serving up all the classics like pulled pork sandwiches plated up two different ways, Texas-style (meat with barbecue sauce) and Carolina-style (meat with mustard barbecue sauce, pickles and coleslaw). Also available: baby back ribs by the quarter rack and slow-smoked brisket. Sides include regular staples like fries, baked beans, cheesy grits, coleslaw, collard greens and potato salad. Stay up to date on menu items and events by following their Facebook and Instagrampages. Open seven days a week, This Little Piggy is located at 426 W. Danny Severance
We presently needed to share this particular article with the visitors.
Tumblr media
Danny is a singer/songwriter/violinist creating an interestingly raw and soulful musical style. His project has a nearly mesmerizingblend of melodies and mixed with original lyrics.Danny is a veteran musician with a performing history in New York City as well as Los Angeles, but he is currently building his touring presence across the US with his EP The Lost Tape. And his newest track releases which are available here:http://soundcloud.com/dannysev/time2goSo, We caught up with Danny this past weekend to talk moreabout his sound and his current EP:
Tumblr media
If you had to define your sound, how would you describe it?I would describe it as eclectic but overall, very soulful. My sound is sometimes soul, sometimes blues rock, sometimes future soul, sometimes folk, and I always try to write insightful, poetic lyrics. How long have you been performing?Ive been performing as lead singer in one band or another since age 20 when I was a student at Bradley University in Peoria, IL. But Ive played violin classically since age 5.How is what youre doing (this project) different from so many artists popping up today? My lyrics are deeper. And I take my role as an artist seriously. Its not about fame and attention for me, or not how you would think its about using attention to create connection, community, and emotional reaction and its about conveying truth. Its about making the best music I can because I know I can make great music. It is about me in a way because this is something I need to do to feel like myself but at the same time its not at all about me.
Tumblr media
Where do you find inspiration for your melodies/songs?For me, inspiration can live anywhere. Its hard to say what exactly is my go-to. Using meditation and exercise, I create a mental atmosphere for myself where I can process ideas and where ideas spring up from my mind naturally. Travel is big too. Or,I may find myself hearing a song by someone else and then Ill challenge myself to achieve just one characteristic that Ive picked up on in that song.Other mediums of art, especially literature and painting, inspire me as well. What different instruments do you play on your current EP?This Spring and through the Summer and Fall, Im in the process of releasing a mix of singles thatbelong to two different projects. I do blues indie rock and I do future soul/neo soul.I would describe it as eclectic but overall, very soulful. Court orders $1.1 million judgment against Graffiti Junktion
After you check out this post share your thoughts. A Graffiti Junktion franchisee and the owner of the chain are on the hook for $1.15 million for a failed location in Winter Springs. In a strange series of legal events, franchisee Grey Fox Holdings stopped paying rent at the location, 1468 Tuskawilla Road, according to allegations in a lawsuit. The restaurant closed in April. The landlord, 750 South Orlando Partners sued in October for the tenant and Graffiti Junktion president Greg Peters to pay the entirety due on a 10-year lease plus about $400,000 in future interest and penalties, according to documents filed in the lawsuit. Neither of the defendants objected, so Seminole County circuit court Judge John Galluzo ruled for the landlord for $1.15 million in early January, documents said. Peters, who founded and runs the Orlando-based burger restaurant and bar chain, said he signed the original lease on the property, but the franchisee was responsible. I signed the original personal guarantee and when I sold the business it didn't release me from the guarantee, Peters said in an email. So they are suing me and I am going to go after the franchise group that purchased that store from me. Grey Fox Holdings CEO Daniel Sobolewski said he was unaware of the proceedings. Greg was the one whose name was on the lease, Sobolewski said when reached by telephone Monday. Im not even in the state. Rent on the property started at $9,750 at the beginning of the lease and escalated to $12,721 in the final months. At the time the complaint was brought in March 2017, the landlord said the tenant owed about $40,000 in back rent. A lawyer for Peters did file a motion to reduce the judgment by $105,568. Grey Fox Holdings at one point operated Graffiti Junktion franchisees in Clermont and Daytona Beach, but no longer operates any restaurants. The Daytona Beach restaurant was only open about six months. It was a terrible location, Sobolewski said. Graffiti Junktion has 10 locations in Florida and is opening another Jacksonville spot soon. Florida witnessed the largest increase of ICE arrests in the country last year
We just had to share this post with our audience. click to enlarge
Tumblr media
Arrests from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents increased by 76 percent last year across Florida, which was more than anywhere else in the country. Florida saw a total of 6,192 arrest in the fiscal year of 2017 according to a new study from the Pew Research Center. Although last year there were more ICE arrests in Dallas, Texas (with 16,520 arrests to be exact), their percentage increase rose just 71 percent making it the second highest. From the report: Trump signed an executive order on Jan. 25 that expanded ICE's enforcement focus to most immigrants in the U.S. without authorization, regardless of whether they have a criminal record. Under President Barack Obama, by contrast, ICE focused its enforcement efforts more narrowly, such as by prioritizing the arrests of those convicted of serious crimes. Despite the overall rise in arrests in 2017, ICE made about twice as many arrests in fiscal 2009, the year Obama came into office (297,898). This total generally declined in subsequent years. Here's what to do if you're confronted by border agents
Tumblr media
Here's what to do if you're confronted by border agents By Xander Peters Blogs ICE made a total of 143,470 arrests country wide last year, which is a 30 percent increase from 2016 and the highest number of arrests over the past three fiscal years, according to a summary from the the U.S. ICE 2017 fiscal year report. Of those arrested, 92 percent had been convicted of a crime or had a pending criminal charge, were an ICE fugitive, or were processed with a reinstated final order, says the 2017 fiscal year report. The influx of arrest came after President Donald Trump took office in late January and signed an executive order on Jan. 25. https://www.orlandoweekly.com/Blogs/archives/2018/02/12/florida-witnessed-the-largest-increase-of-ice-arrests-in-the-country-last-year

Postpartum Preeclampsia: What I Wish I Had Known
After you deal with piece of content share your thoughts. My head felt like it was about to explode. Like a ticking bomb. The pounding in my skull was so loud I could hardly hear my husband desperately begging me to stay awake. Sunlight and even the depressing fluorescent lights of the ER seared my eyes. All I could discern was the sound of my own voice screaming in agony and the doctors muffled orders to get an MRI and CT scan done ASAP. I recall being stabbed with an IV and given magnesium sulfate to prevent seizures. I was a new mother to a week old infant, diagnosed with postpartum preeclampsia.
Tumblr media
How I survived without having a stroke or succumbing to a coma, I will never know. I had had a healthy full term pregnancy, no risk factors and an uncomplicated C-section. Barely 24 hours after I was discharged, I began to feel like a pachyderm had stomped on my chest. I attributed it to being normal after delivery. I was taken to the ER when my symptoms progressed to gasping for breath. My blood pressure was elevated but I was admitted because my heart rate was significantly low. Multiple CT scans ruled out any heart conditions and despite developing a severe headache, I was released to follow up with my primary care physician. (The utter incompetency of the hospital is a blog post all on its own). Less than 8 hours later, it had intensified to an excruciating headache and a blood pressure of 220/110, whichcouldve potentially killed me. My husband couldve been left with two young children to care for on his own. Just the thought of how close that came to being a reality humbles me at being alive today. If youre a fan of Downton Abbey, youll recall Lady Sybills tragic demise at child birth from eclampsia. I know, I cried too. Preeclampsia is a condition that develops during pregnancy, from 20 weeks up to 6 weeks post delivery, characterized by high blood pressure, headache, protein in urine, blurred vision and swelling in extremities. Since blood pressure is usually monitored during regular prenatal visits, it can be detected early. Left untreated it can cause maternal organ failure, premature delivery and a host of other problems for the baby. Post partum preeclampsia is rare and dangerous in that, new mothers are not aware of the symptoms to watch for, nor or are they given appropriate education about it at the hospital. Most mothers, like myself, would dismiss a symptom like a headache. It affects 6-8% of pregnant women in the US and has caused the death of 76,000 mothers and 500,000 infants worldwide. Those are scary numbers a sobering thought considering I couldve been one. In countries like India, even today many are not aware such a condition exists and if they do, they identify seizures withjinni orspirit possession. I wish more health care providers and and hospitals considered the statistics and educated women about it prior to discharge. Failure to properly diagnose women in time, resulting in them becoming a statistic, in a developed country like the US, is unfathomable. If you have had postpartum preeclampsia, share your story. It justmight save a mothers life. You May Also Like ::Sharing is Caring
