People will gag at the idea of eating bugs but then be like 'oh boy can't wait for some lobster and shrimp!' Baby that's morrowind food we're eating.

I love how often people on this site call random things which they disagree with but don't have any actual argument against either puritan or catholic, regardless of the subject in question's actual relevance to either puritanism or catholicism. it's like 17th century england in here

Update: guys Venus sucks. I'm living in a studio on a cloud city and people keep voting against making the surface habitable because it'll crash their property values. Like yeah buddy I sure hope it does

Whats your favorite pre tolkien fantasy work (pulps or novels) ?
hmm, that's a tough one
Of all the ones I read, I think Gormenghast might be the best overall. I listened to the Titus Groan and Gormenghast audiobooks on Libby; each one is about 20 hours long, and I got through each one in a week. However, I do feel like using the "fantasy" label for it is a bit misleading. "Gothic" or "Kafkaesque" sets expectations better. Even "magical realism" would be a bit of stretch.
The Broken Sword is also a really solid. It's probably the book that does the best job at imitating an epic, archaic style while still being fast-paced and easy to follow by modern tastes.
I found E.R. Eddison's whole legendarium to be a real slog back when I read through, but it's probably the one that I think about the most often. Everything about it's just so fascinating. I really ought to get around to re-reading it. Or at least, I really ought to re-read The Worm Ouroboros. The Zimiamvia Trilogy can wait a bit longer...

Elves: thank god, now we can easily write down all of the horrible things that Feanor does.
