Hey all. Just got back from seeing Oscar again! This time on Broadway. There was a couple of differences from the BAM production. Few involve Sidney. Oscar was brilliant, as usual. So sweet at the stage door, as usual. He came out after 3 of our 4 shows.(It’s been hit and miss, apparently, between the two Wednesday shows.) Security told us he was having therapy after the matinee on Wed. Sidney is a very physical role. The entire cast (except Glen -David) came out one of the nights. Most came out after each show. Got to congratulate and have my pic taken with our Tony winner, Miriam. 🙂

She’s fabulous and also very sweet). Our first night, I had brought a gift for Oscar and ran out to find an open space on the barricade. Surprised to see there was plenty of room. I greeted him when he got to me and gave him his gift (it’s a Xmas ornament). He called it a cool little banjo. I asked him to turn it over. He saw what I had personalized for him on the back…
“BAM to Broadway 2023”. He seemed to like it. 🤗 I told him how we flew in to see him at BAM and that we had to come back to see him on Broadway. Congratulated him on his debut. Told him his performance was amazing. He put his hand on my shoulder 3 times during our conversation! I had the little banjo in a case and had taken it out to give it to him. Of course, forgot all about it. Last second, I told him I had a case for it and I opened it. He placed the banjo inside. He said, “Oh, a traveling case to keep it safe” and told me, “Thank you. I appreciate you”, as he put his hand on my shoulder. I pretty much melted. WOW WOW WOW

“A fool who believes that death is waste and love is sweet and that the earth turns and men change every day and that rivers run and that people wanna be better than they are and that flowers smell good and that I hurt terribly today, and that hurt is desperation and desperation is… energy and energy can move things…” - The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window by Lorraine Hansberry

Great article about The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window, which starts previews this Saturday…

Lorraine Hansberry’s “The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window” began performances on Broadway in the fall of 1964. It closed the following January, days before Hansberry’s death, having run 101 performances.
“Isn’t that insane?” the director Anne Kauffman asked.
This was on a recent afternoon in a rehearsal room of the Brooklyn Academy of Music, where Kauffman and her stars, the actors Rachel Brosnahan and Oscar Isaac, were preparing for the play’s first major New York revival since a 14-performance run in 1972. Combining the published script with earlier drafts, Kauffman’s production is scheduled to begin performances on Saturday. She directed a revival of “Sign” at Chicago’s Goodman Theater in 2016. But she didn’t feel finished with it.
