grief diary/yet another sob session

in the hospital a few days before his death, my dad wrote out a note for the nurse with my name and number and my mom’s name + our home phone and got her to call us (we had stayed overnight but had to go home for a couple hours to shower and prepare meals). he got the home phone right but he was off by a number for my cell. it was the last thing he ever wrote. i pocketed the note when we returned, and i thought i lost it on the last day we were there. i had a breakdown trying to find it and i was finally coming to terms with losing it forever, but i just found it today and i can’t stop fucking crying. i didn’t notice this at the time, but on the other side he wrote “[dad] needs to go home. many wires are attached to my body. and stickers” he was so scared and alone in that moment and i was the first person he thought of. and i wasn’t there. i wasn’t fucking there. i’m so sorry dad :((
