Evaluation
When I started to working on my marketing strategy I had no full concept in my mind. Than I was thinking about my targeted audience and researched their designs and online presence to build my own brand.
My first step onto branding is my name. I felt a need to create an artist name for myself that is easy to pronounce to other people, reflects on that I am Hungarian and has a strong link to me. I chose Cholnoky. Before that I tried to make a new name out of the characters that my surname contains but I saw it didn’t work. One night I was reading a poem from my favorite poet and found that the poem was addressed to a writer called Cholnoky. My gradparents were living in a little village in Hungary called Csolnok. I loved to spend time there with them they were very close to me. This is why I chose that name. Before put it into concept I asked various English people to tell me how they would pronounce that name.
Csolnoki means ‘the one who is from Csolnok’. There is the same logic behind the name Brassai, who’s original name was Gyula Halasz, but he grown up in Brasso, Hungary (now part of Romania).
I designed a very minimal logo for myself. I saw so many commercial photographer logo to clarify what’s trending there and what is that I should avoid. Also carry out a research on my potential audience logos and designs to put together a pure and easy to understand brand/design/website without any not necessary information. I wanted to keep the design minimal that works well with my graduation project and final portfolio.
While I was working on my design and artist statement I saw various oppurtunities to submit my work and I thought it would be a great opportunity to extend my marketing campaign and gain some international publicity. So that directed me to send my project to online magazine editors and used my website and social media (instagram) as a contact information. I gained new followers on instagram and that lead me to post more information about the project and referring to our graduation show. I still find hard to use publicity on a day to day basis and even to maintain  my account to keep the existing followers and gain some new. However I am always trying to interact other artists and people who are following me.
For the graduation show as part of that marketing champaign I created business cards for networking and I will sell (60x80cm) digital prints and postcards of my project. The process of making physical marketing stuff helped me deciding paper types and choose printing companies to produce my printed marketing material.
During this semester I tryied  gain the most through the acquaintance I gainded by online publicity. I found it a complex and conscious process to carry out a marketing champaign. This experience was a very instructive for me and I would apply it and extend it in the future.
I must spend more time in the future to maintain my blog and social media appearance and regard it as a fundamental part of my photographic  business practice such as my regularly refreshed portfolio, new photographic projects and writing a comprehensive and clear artist statement.

Annotation + reflection on tutorial discussion
My marketing strategy aimed to reach my targeted audience. As they are artists, art magazines galleries and museums, I was focussing to reach a standard presence and build my own brand. I have been supported by my tutors during this process. Recieved some technical advise in terms of the most compatible software I could use to achive the best result. Also suggested to keep copies in separate folders distinct by the resulutions and dimensions used by magazines. (72dpi, 300dpi ect) . That helped my keeping the huge amount of data and images tidy.

Evaluation
I have learned during that project that sometimes less is more. Started with grandiose plans in terms of the quantity of imagess at the beginning than reduced the number of images and increased the quality of the outcomes. I am pleased with my final body of work as it’s reflects on the amount of time and work I put into the project. However my plan is to extend the project to publish a book later.  It took almost 5 months to achive the 6 final images, but I believe that the fundamental essence of film photography is to be patient and working hard.
Precision is the key to achive the prints I desired the most. That changed my entire practice working in the darkroom. As the darkroom was always my shelter I really enjoyed spending time there producing the prints. During the time I spent there I learned so much about experimenting, challenged and pushed myself to trying out new techniques.
I have learned I have to use a directed marketing strategy to approach my potential clients. As they possibly would be galleries, museums and art magazines that means to me that I have to produce a well organised statement that summarizes and points out the aim/s of the project.
In the future I would like to approach my potential market with well organised projects. Both, visual and narrative content.
From September I am continuing my studies at the University of The Arts London, Camberwell College of Arts. I am aware that my portfolio, professional exhibiting- and marketing strategy skills will improve during the two years of BA Hons Fine Art Photography course. My aim is to focussing on that improvement and the collaboration with other artists.
I am just started my journey within the fine art photography, but I think to find this path is my biggest achivement during this semester and the FdA course. That directed me to curating, art research and to apply to UAL.
I am aware that my language skills are still making me a bit shy and uncertain in some situations, but I will improve that.

Portfolio
My most recent portfolio had been made to support my university interviews . Its printed on 8x10 lustre paper and the folder I carry it is handmade.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As my target to study fine art photography my portfolio contains the existing body of work I produced for Specialist practice module last semester - abstraction project on pollution, urban exploration project on decay and abandonment, street photography and the new ‘Fading Memories’ project.
I chose to include various projects into my portfolio to point out I have a broad range of interest within photography but trying to work in the same sort of style.
Each project has some backup information (such as workbooks) in the folder in case of anyone would see more examples or explanation of the projects. I also attached my Research paper on Surrealism as I would like to work in the museum environment. With the attached essay I could also show an example of my research and writing skills.
However, to achive my progression goals I have to refreshing my portfolio regularly in the future, because some of projects are older than 3 years.
I have to keep working and focussing on my portfolio and the appropriate presentation of it to reaching my targets.

Graduation show
As a final body of work I produced 6 images for the graduation show. The original pictures are 16x20 inch gelatine silver prints. Regarding to the fragility of the original prints, the exhibited images will be digital reproductions of the darkroom images.
For the show I produced business cards

Artist statement
’Fading Memories’
This project aims to articulate how our memories are fading away as time goes by. Evoking someone’s face we know but have not seen for months, years or sometimes for even decades sounds easy, but when we try to remember details of their faces we usually fail. There is a feeling rather than a visual memory. We might be able to remember particular facial features or a movement, but not the whole detailed picture of their face.
As a Hungarian living in the UK for 5 years, being not able to see my friends and family often and realised that I started to loose my memories of their faces. That lead me to carry out a resarch on memories. From my previous experiences I knew that memory fading was one of the main cause that evoked post mortem photography in the Victorian era. Regarding to that I extended my research on contemporary photographic practice. Timothy Pakron’s „Silver Drips”  project has the biggest influence on my practice.
I photographed my family members and friends in Hungary for this project. Used 35mm balck and white film and created the prints with ’uneven’ development darkroom technique, to represent this fragmentation of memory. Instead of using the traditional photographic development technique I was painted back the facial features by hand to challenge the spectator’s evaluation.
The originals are individual hand-painted gelatin silver prints (16x20 inches)

Work Based Learning Bristol24/7
Brief
Shoot a photostory with a people focus for an online and print publication that centres on Bristol’s news, culture and people.
You might consider trades and professions, perhaps unusual professions.Someone with a story to tell. Anyone one you know, or could contact through your own contacts?
Research the publication – available online and printed – see links below.
Look at the different layouts and conventions of the print and the online formats of the magazine
Research beforehand (subject, location / recce, light, weather)
You have discussed initial ideas in a planning session so use these ideas or develop new ones.
 What to produce:
Shoot both high + low res (for print + web use)
Work for print should be 300 dpi sized to A4.
Work for web should be 72 dpi sized to 800 pixels on the longest edge
Print + web should be the same body of work.
You will need to shoot a ‘hero’ image, that is, an image which in effect becomes the banner for the story for the website. This needs to be sized to 800 x 450 pixels @ 72dpi. Think about effective cropping here.
Also identify the ‘signature’ image in the print images – the main or leading image which will pull the viewer into the story.
You will needto be flexible in your photography (to suit the client), shooting both portrait and landscapeformat is clearly essential (remember the advice from Alamy). Think about the differing layout options on the printed page and website.
The different platforms use differing ratios of images - produce 3 - 5 images for the print version, and 8 - 10 for the website (remember the ‘signature’ + ‘hero’ images).
Come with a possible layout plan for your print imagesor sequence your photos in order of viewing.
 Review session
14.00 in room 6e.39, College Green.
We will be joined by Martin Booth, editor of Bristol 24/7 and one of 24/7’s photographers (hopefully) to review and feedback on your work.
We will review your images on screen – please bring these organised and arranged in folders (separately for print+ web) on a USB stick or portable hard drive.
Please also bring in print images for display – these can be full prints (no larger than A4 or 8x10”) or contact sheets (no more than 6 images per A4 sheet)
Remember to include a layout or sequence plan.
  Skills
Utilise skills you developed during your Location shoots from last semester.
Talk to your subjects, engage with them, and remember the key facts: names and background info.
Who, what, where, when, why (not necessarily in that order!)
Use your metadata to store this info. In this working context your photos are worthless without this info!
For that brief I photographed the Flamingo Chicks - dance school for children with diabilities. The school make a big difference within the local and -now- international community. I am a volunteer at the Bristol based dance school. Such a honour to be a part of an initiation like Flmingo Chicks.  This is the reason I chose to tell their story.

Curating
My future aim is to become an art resercher and curator. For that purpose I carried out some research on curating.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I applied for a voluntary collection documentation role at the Fox Talbot Museum. From September I will help Roger Watson, the curator and the museum team archiving the Fenton Project’s  4500 piece (mainly darkroom equipment) collection.
I’m  visiting exhibitions around Europe every time I could. Writing reviews about the curating and the layout of exhibitions for myself and making notes.

Post production and Printing
The original prints are individually painted gelatin silver prints.
However I am going to exhibit digital reproduction of them as the original prints are too fragile to exhibit them.
photographing the original images I used 2 light sources each set up 45degree angle from the image. Used tripod and masking tape on the wall to placce every image onto the same spot. My first attempts to photograph the images while lying them on the floor were fruitless.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
For post production I used Photoshop and used the earse to clear all the gray bits and parts from the white areas. I spent 1 week on the post production (4-5 hours/image) as these gray areas only visible on screen if I observe it from particular angles. To assist that process I used an additional control layer , painted all black and set the the layer type on ‘Color burn’. that tinted black all the areas where any color data were remained on the original layer.
Tumblr media
For printing I used the Epson 7880 Professional printer. The size of the final prints are 60x80cm
Before full size printing I was printed test strips of the critical areas. As first some grayish area remained, so I cancelled printing and been checked the post production.

The Gallery space
We received the gallery layout map and panel guides.
