in moments like these, it feels like it’s you two against the world. tucked away inside an abandoned bike shop owned by none other than ex-black dragon leader shinichiro sano, you and inupi are completely alone. your head rests gently against his shoulder, his hand is gently scratching at the base of your skull as he plays with your hair. moments like these are entirely domestic and ones you never want to forget. no, not when your boyfriend lives an incredibly dangerous life. these moments are never guaranteed, nor is forever, so you remind yourself to never take them for granted.

and so, you two have been sitting in silence for what feels like forever, simply enjoying each other’s company. that is, until seishu dares to break the silence between you two. “you know i love you, right?” though you aren’t quite looking up at him, you can feel him beaming from ear to ear. this statement -- or rather, revelation -- brings a blush to your cheeks, face heating up in a shade of scarlet or crimson almost immediately.

“do you really?” you hum, finally taking your chin off of his shoulder so you can turn around to look at him. perhaps it’s selfish, but you can’t help but ask the boy how he really feels. there’s something about hearing it from him that makes your heart flutter.

“‘course i do,” he answers back in an instant, with such speed that almost suggests he’s offended that you could ever doubt him. you never would, of course. he’s all knowing about your games by now -- he knows too well that you just wanna hear him say it. and, if that’s what you want, that’s exactly what you’re gonna get. 

in one swift motion without warning, inupi turns you to face him, caressing your cheek gently before he leaves you tilting your head in confusion. he raises a hand to you -- more specifically, a pinky. “what’re you doing?” you chuckle, shaking your head at the childlike gesture.

“it’s a pinky promise,” he explains. “means i can’t break it.” he brings his pinky closer to reaffirm the gesture. “so when i say we’ll love each other forever and we do a pinky promise, that means neither of us can break it.”

elated and with your face burning hot shades of crimson, you accept his pinky into yours.

“where’re you going?” you tilt your head innocently as you watch your boyfriend throw on a hoodie and a pair of shoes -- you can’t help but frown; once again your date has been ruined by his phone buzzing a million times before he decided he needed to take care of something.

“koko needs me,” he mimics your frown, ultimately rolling his eyes. “i’ll be fast, okay?” he doesn’t really go into the details but you can assume it’s something about black dragon. you know all too well that despite the fact that he’s promising to be fast, inui won’t be home for hours and he’s gonna come home battered and with several bruises that he certainly didn’t have before. you hate this -- you wish that he’d step away from all of this but you know him too well. he wouldn’t dare abandon shinichiro’s visions. alas, you let out a loud sigh.

“promise?” you ask, extending out a pinky, just as he’d done one of the first few times he told you he loved you.

“promise,” he grins cheekily, wrapping his pinky around yours before pressing a chaste kiss to the top of your head.

as tensions have risen with the kanto manji gang, you’ve seen inupi less and less. he’s been out running the streets with tokyo manji, trying to do anything to desperately get kokonoi back on their side. you’ve been filled in with all of the details, but, unfortunately, it’s stricken fear into your heart. that your boyfriend and one of his closest friends would never ‘make up’. that, god forbid, something would ever happen to him. you’ve refrained from voicing these thoughts aloud, afraid of either manifesting them or making inupi worry more about you than he already does.

over the span of the last two months or so, you can count the times you two have been able to sit together or go out on dates on one hand. this is one of those few times -- you two are sitting at a coffee shop, sipping away at your drinks. there’s a comfortable silence between you two, neither wanting to break it in fear of ending these beautiful, domestic moments you get to share.

inupi is brave; he breaks the silence between you two effortlessly as he sets down his drink. “when this is all over, i want to run away with you,” he hums. “i want to get out of tokyo. it’s getting too dangerous for my liking. can’t bring myself to worry about your pretty little head more than i already do.” you smile at his words, but, he’s not quite done. “gonna get us a nice house. one big enough for a garden. hell, maybe even two gardens for all i care.” it warms your heart to know he can see a future with you. if you ever told him this, he’d scold you with a simple ‘of course i can see a future with you?’ as if you’re the one acting foolishly for even asking such a question. “gonna get you out of here and get you whatever you want. maybe even a house big enough for a pony,” he chuckles, the light hearted conversation is something you two desperately need.

“i’ll open up a bike shop and you can sit pretty at the desk.” this time, he takes a few beats before bringing his hand close to you. he closes his fist, thumb wrapping over his digits. it comes as no surprise when his pinky remains unfolded and standing tall. he doesn’t even have to continue speaking for you to know what he’s gonna promise.

that you two will be together as long as he can help it -- that he’s gonna give you the best future you could ever ask for.
