the biggest thing that people get wrong about Irene Adler, even more than making her a love interest (Holmes respects her because she defeated him and then left) or a recurring character (she's in one story) is giving her an English accent
it is 100% canon that she is from New Jersey

and it's not just classism that drives the weird way people talk about the uk, it's also a total lack of engagement with the politics and history of the uk - yes britain is a colonial country, but it's also colonial in its own borders. the english literally colonised wales, ireland and scotland and still colonise wales and northern ireland, and whilst scotland long ago escaped total subjugation, it's still not equal in terms of political authority. likewise... i can't believe i have to say that, but english people are human too??? we're not just white upper class twats. i mean, the english working class, you know, exists. black and brown people live in england and are english, and you don't get to erase that. we are not our (unbelievably corrupt) government. trans people live here. "terf island" it's my home! it's my fucking home! i can't just leave! and i don't want to.

i think it's just because so many people on this site are american but the way they talk about england drives me up the wall because 70% of the time it's just classism towards working class northern culture which is justified as "acceptable" because england is a colonial nation and also people outside of the uk don't really understand the hellhole of geopolitics going on here (fair enough) and the other 30% of the time it's just a refusal point-blank to see people outside of america as humans
#relatedly. why is it suddenly ok to make fun of peoples appearances if theyre british#ESPECIALLY with teeth#like no its actually weird how insistent americans are on straight white teeth that dont look real

i don’t know who this woman is. but these two nameless photos of that i think are both of her have shown up in two separate threads of photos of lesbians, a month apart. and i picked them out to attach to without even realizing it was the same woman at first. and i am hopelessly attached to her
—
edit — her name is asia. both photos were taken by chloe sherman in san francisco, in 1996. [x] [x]

i worry that people who know deep space nine only through meme think that quark is a comedic side character who we all make a fuss over as gay people on tumblr tend to do, and not like. a core part of the emotional heart of the show
#he is in fact critical to what ds9 is as an entry into star trek canon. listen#ds9#star trek ds9#ds9 quark
