LIFE IN THE WORLD ABOVE had been going swimmingly well thus fae . while ariel had had a fair share of adventures under the sea , everything seemed so much more exciting on land , with much more to discover and explore ! but even so , the strangest feeling seemed to be growing in her chest as of late : missing home .

it wasn’t like she regretted becoming human . on the contrary , she’d never been happier ! so happy in fact that she wished she could share her happiness with her loved ones , so that maybe they’d finally understand . at least she had eric , and ariel couldn’t think of a better company . sometimes she felt as though she’d somehow known him her whole life or even before that . but even then , despite eric’s cherished presence , it could be easy to get distracted sometimes .

❛ hm ? no , i like it ! i like the white and blue- what’s the word , uh , droid ? ❜ the concept was incredibly strange to her , but fascinating . as most things were . with eric’s gentle insistence , the redhead let out a deep breath , shaking her head just a bit . ❛ nothing , i just- ❜ brows furrow together , not really wanting to admit it to herself . ❛ i was thinking about home . it’s been half a year since i left … do you think they miss me ? ❜

a small frown tugged at his features at first when she pulled from her thoughts. something was clearly bothering her and eric hated to feel as if he could not fix something. when she asked if her family missed her he understood that longing. 

he was far away from vellona. and while he must’ve had more selfish reasons for leaving he knew what it was like to feel homesick. while a majority of his life was spent at sea with his father... he still longed for that companionship. to be out there with his father and the sailors. here in elias he was alone. not fully, it seemed as days went on more and more royals were showing up. and of course he had ariel. her company greater than any he’d known here. but, still there was a longing to be back at the island some days. 

“do they miss you?” eric asked, shifting to where he was sitting up a little more and could get a better look at her, “ariel, i doubt they’ve gone ten whole minutes without thinking of you.” he reassured. “of course they miss you! i would miss you if you were somewhere else now so i can only imagine how they feel.”

“and an old wives tale it shall stay.” eric replied shaking his head at his friend. “what has the world come to? kit charmont telling tall tales of yester years.” eric stated dramatically, “soon they will call you mad and name phil or even florian king... and i don’t think the world can handle either of them on the throne.”

SAYING ARIEL WAS EXCITED for her first human party ( a ball ! why did they even call it that ?! ) would be an understatement . she’d been losing sleep over it , only to see now that she was having even more fun than she’d thought possible , and eric was a huge part of it . after all , he was the very reason she was able to come . it was a bit scary to be on the dance floor though ; scary , but exciting . ❛ i’ll try not to step on your toes , ❜ ariel giggled . it shouldn’t be a problem anyway , merpeople were quick learners ! ❛ i didn’t know the parties on land were like this . everyone and everything looks so beautiful , it’s amazing ! ❜ she exclaimed , her own excitement keeping ariel from realizing her little slip .

eric couldn’t think of this night as much more perfect as he began to sway them around the floor. taking small steps to let her catch on. “if you do i’ll pretend it didn’t happen.” he chuckled, he would try his hardest to hide any pain if she slipped and stepped on his feet. but, she was doing okay. he could help but smile at her excitement. “not all parties are this fancy.” eric chuckled, as he continued to lead through her slip up. she was so blissfully unaware and caught up in the party that he couldn’t say a thing, “i’ll have to take you to a frat party. i’ve never been but i’ve heard crazy things.”

eric let out a chuckle. she was funny. he got up and took a glass in his hand, taking a sip before speaking. “ah, maybe not the time of my life.. but it is an interesting piece. there are quiet a few interesting stone things here.” he chuckled, “any of the art interest you?”

🐢 ⠀  ⠀ ⠀  ⠀ ───────────   eric’s   comment   did   make   leo   let   out   an   amused   laughed.      “   and   the   views   supposed   to   be   better   down   there   ?   ”   he   still   found   the   whole   things   ridiculous.   like   why   did   someone   have   to   be   on   the   ground   to   inspect   art   ?   he   was   probably   being   a   little   too   judgemental   so   leo   decided   to   be   nice   and   bend   down   some   to   see   what   eric   was   seeing.   he   refused   to   sit   on   the   floor.      “   lovers   huh   ?   that’s   some   hopeless   romantic   talk   right   there.   i’m   usually   right,   yeah.   very   pretzel   like.   lover   pretzels   if   you   will.   ”      the   slider   straightened   as   eric   stood.      “   can’t   say   i’ve   ever   had   the   pleasure   of   being   in   some   shmancy   art   place   to   really   appreciate   it.   my   brother   does   art   but   it’s   more   drawings   than   sculptures.   ”

“yeah, maybe.” eric chuckled knowing that it really wasn’t any better but you’re supposed to appreciate these things in all the ways you can. at least that’s how he thought. “no a romance guy?” eric asked curiously, he was a bit of a sap when it came to love and romance. always going out of his way to woe someone he fancied. “lover pretzels.” he repeated letting out a laugh. leo had a charm and wit about him that eric was very drawn to. he was interesting and eric wanted to know more. “ah, i’m sure your brother could teach you a thing or two about shmancy art. my father collects art and antiques.. all that stuff. our house had a lot of things you can look at but not touch.” he recalled, “but, uh, your brother.. his drawings are good?”

🦁 ⠀  ⠀ ⠀  ⠀ ───────────       “   yo,   whoever’s   hotboxing   the   bathroom   better   hurry   up.   i’ve   had   to   piss   for   twenty   minutes   now.   ”      simba   groaned   as   he   leaned   against   the   wall.   with   how   fancy   the   place   was   you   think   they   could   afford   a   few   more   bathrooms.   he   was   desperate   at   this   point   for   some   place   to   go.      “   i   don’t   want   to   hear   shit   from   mickey   mouse   if   i   let   nature   flow   in   the   gardens   this   is   ridiculous   .   ”

eric sighed as she leaned against the wall next to the bathroom door. “it’s practically a castle im sure there is a bathroom somewhere else.” he said before getting annoyed and banging on the door. “you’d think they’d have common decency to smoke outside.” eric had never hot boxed so he wasn’t exactly sure why they couldn’t just do this outside and leave the bathroom for the other party goers. “maybe there is one for staff somewhere close?”

ariel was sparkling as ever as eric took her out into the middle of the dance floor. he bowed playfully before wrapping an arm around her waist to lead, “just follow my lead.” he said taking her small hand in his own before slowly shuffling his feet. he couldn’t have been happier to bring ariel to the ball. he’d buy a million more gowns if it meant she was this excited again.

🐢 ⠀  ⠀ ⠀  ⠀ ───────────   “   it   looks   like   a   concrete   pretzel.   ”      leo   said   as   he   looked   the   piece   over.   he   wasn’t   an   art   guy   by   any   means.   the   only   art   he   found   himself   around   was   mikey’s   drawings.   calling   him   biased   but   leo   thought   his   little   brother’s   work   was   far   better   than   whatever   he   was   staring   at   right   now.      “   dude   …   stand   up   you   don’t   have   to   kneel   that   close   to   get   a   hidden   message.   i   don’t   think   there   is   a   hidden   message   to   begin   with.   ”      the   slider’s   head   tilted.      “   i   mean   maybe   there   is   a   message   but   i   have   no   idea   what   it   is.   ”

leo wasn’t wrong... it did sort of resemble a pretzel and was certainly concrete. eric let out a huff as he looked up from the art. “that’s why i’m down here inspecting it.” he explained, “to see if there is a clue.” but so far there was nothing. “someone mentioned it looked like two lovers intertwined... but i think you’re right about it looking  more like a pretzel.” he stood up finally and dusted off his hands, “i take it you’re not big on art?”
