question for employers: hi why are you even offering 28k per year for a masters-required job in a city where the average rent is $1,600 per month

y’all ever have those lines in songs where, when they finally sing it, ur heart just goes !!!!! and you become very happy because that one line in particular is just so wonderfully and artfully crafted?? like sometimes it’s the tune, sometimes it’s the lyrics, sometimes it’s a key change, sometimes it’s a long note, sometimes it’s something hard to explain!! i live for these lines tbh, sometimes i’ll listen to particular songs just to hear a specific line lmao
#sometimes when i write songs/poems its solely to justify one (1) phrase#and other people do it to and sometimes you can tell

the number of swords with incredibly hyperspecific powers in Arthuriana really delights me:
Then they girded on a sword: it was such a sword that any woman in labor — even if her life hung in the balance — would be delivered of her child at once if struck on the head with the flat of the naked blade.
— First Percival Continuation, Nigel Bryant translation
this is just a sword that Gawain is using for normal quest stuff btw

a part of what we lost with the decline in popularity of the monster of the week format is the trope where one of the protagonists meets someone attractive -> instantly develops a thing for them -> they turn out to be directly involved with that episode’s mystery -> they are either a) revealed to be evil or b) have one last lingering moment with the protag before disappearing forever -> their bestie claps them on the shoulder like “you’ll get ‘em next time champ :)”. then repeat with the same character the next episode

Sheridan contemplating his mortality and deciding to make a recording for his son's 21st birthday is very sentimental and honestly sweet but also VERY funny. The most important advice he can think of for his future adult son is "listen to your mother."
Also the fact that he stayed up all night recording this long, rambling thing. It's gotta be hours long at the very least. Do you think David Jr. ever actually heard it or do you think John deleted it at some point in the intervening ~17 years and made a new one that's less embarrassing.

i love that voyager’s command structure is so broken that when tom is possessed by an evil ship ai no one fuckin does anything about him until he’s screaming at b’elanna in the hallways
there’s a flavor of voyager writing where janeway is on top of everything and forcing her decisions down everyone’s throats and there’s a flavor where she’s sequestered in her ready room for the entirety of the episode b/c the writers forgot about her

The children's show villain is a figure who sadly is not seen outside the children's show. There are few stock characters who as succinctly declare, from sheer stage presence, "the world is unloveable and it is painful to live here; that which delights mankind is like ash on my tongue" without being too fucking whiny about it.

and one of the funniest moments is when cleo almost gets them all killed trying to rescue the pod and uses that exact same line leading to hel yelling "the pod is not a team member!!"
anyway one of the cutest moments in c2525 is after hel and sarge rescue cleo and hel is like "we don't leave a team member behind" and cleo goes "i'm a team member?!" very shocked but also excited like ahhhhhhhh yes cleo! you are a vital and loved member of the team!!

Never-before-published model sheets for canned Amblin Cats movie 🐈⬛✏️👁️
Hi all. As promised, I am sharing a comprehensive .PDF of model sheets that were created for the Amblimation Cats movie that never saw the light of day. Most of these model sheets have not been published or posted anywhere on the internet as far as I'm aware. I'm going to get ahead of some questions for the good of the order:
Are these real? I certainly didn't sit and create all 117 pages myself for the sake of an elaborate hoax!
How did you get these? I work in the animation industry. A senior coworker caught wind of my cats obsession and said he had the Xeroxes and asked if I wanted him to bring them in. Internally, I flipped my shit. And then I digitized his hard copies.
How did your coworker get these? They were found in the library of the university he used to go to. (Not super unusual at an arts school in southern California.) He made photo copies back then and has been holding onto them. The thing is he knows nothing about CATS; isn't a CATS fan, never seen it, etc. I guess he just felt it was something worth holding on to!
Can you upload better quality? Unfortunately what you're seeing as good as the quality gets. These are scans of photocopies from the 90s. There is nothing to be done for the crunchiness.
What about (missing characters)? I'm showing you everything I was personally given!
Which character is (nondescript drawing of a cat)? If the image isn't labeled, your guess is as good as mine! I put all the misc./unlabeled cats in the back of the PDF. The only exceptions are ones that I felt were abundantly obviously supposed to be a specific character.
Who are the artists? Unfortunately, there's no way I can tell for sure. None of the sheets are signed. I wouldn't even go about guessing because many concept artists can perfectly emulate more "well known" illustrators whose styles were sought after. My coworker said he might be able to figure out who the draftsmen were; until then it's a mystery! If I find out, I will come back to this post and update it with that information.
Are these all the model sheets ever? No! In fact, there are model sheets that have been posted online that are not in the bundle I was given. I have no idea of the sum total of model sheets in existence.
Where's the link?! Here it is! Have fun kitties!

woke up thinking about seska today, and how very likely there were a lot of bajoran terrorists in the maquis. in ds9 “past prologue” we hear about splinter terrorist groups who either left bajor or were exiled. it’s a debate whether to repatriate them and give them amnesty (and whether they would even want to return).
the amnesty thing implies just how violent these groups were: in season one odo says “killing a cardassian isn’t much of a crime these days” when bajorans who committed murder without being part of the underground are released from prison, and later kira says that the underground killed bajoran collaborators if they had to in order to hit cardassian targets (with some regret, but also with what seems like a fairly broad definition of collaboration).
so the kohn-ma and other splinter cells must have done serious shit that a) harmed way too many innocent bajorans or b) put the movement in danger so much they may have been exiled at the height of bajor’s resistance struggle or maybe c) wouldn’t stop fighting cardassians even after cardassians left bajor, leaving bajor vulnerable to military retaliation (or maybe were targeting the federation as well as cardassians…).
and while none of that would necessarily require cardassian spy influence, it might have helped! it’s in cardassia’s best interest to i create division within the underground!
and where are they going to go if they don’t return to bajor? the maquis, a group of civilians who wouldn’t otherwise know how to mount an armed resistance. the maquis do have some ability to do background checks (ro laren in “preemptive strike”) but it’s limited, and they’re desperate and operate in individual cells, so some leaders aren’t going to give a shit that their new highly skilled recruits hate cardassians too much.
so seska’s not necessarily an example of chakotay’s trusting open door recruitment policy, she may well have predated him in the maquis. she’s surprised when he refuses to mutiny against janeway in episode two, so she’s used to having influence over major strategic decisions (though clearly her preferred way of operating is as the power behind the throne, so even though she’s capable of running a cell herself, she doesn’t want that visibility).
and there are certainly lots of random bajorans from the diaspora who joined up because their families are in the DMZ or in danger or dead. there’s no way little baby gerron from “learning curve” was a hardened terrorist committing war crimes for half a decade, but i find it interesting to think about the possibility that seska started her infiltration career during the occupation. or at the very least, those terrorist expats gave her cover.
