one thing i have noticed is that, despite how frequently i perform well above average standards, my father is always supportive. when i was first published four years ago, my father brought me flowers and eagerly quoted the first line of my short story after returning with multiple copies of the book. my mother gave me a simple "congratulations" and moved on. i know that good performance has been expected of me throughout all of my years, as i have always been considered advanced, but is meeting these high expectations not worthy of celebration every time??
