So I'm just realizing that the quest for Artemis in TTC was hella dangerous for the questers because it was during the Winter Solstice, where monsters are most active and more powerful. Especially in Grover's pov. He's travelling with Zöe Nightshade (a hunter/former Hesperid), and 3 (forbidden) kids of the big three gods that he had previously found, namely: Thalia Grace (daughter of Zeus), Percy Jackson (son of Poseidon), and Bianca di Angelo (daughter of Hades). Just imagine the amount of monsters trying to get to them.

Being a mythological being, like Zoe or Daedalus, and interacting with Percy during one of his quests must be so unsettling, because you barely know and maybe not even like this kid, but he's still going to have some weird, prophetic dreams, which show him your entire life story.

One thing thats always gets a smile/giggle outta me in DP is how all the teenagers are like really self aware about teenager tropes? Dash recognizing that hes peaking in high school, Danny's little "hello misplaced aggression", Jazz's everything all the time.

chalice of the gods is so interesting to me because rick wrote some fucking deep cuts as it comes to representing depression as a older teenager with learning disabilities who's had terrible traumas brushed off casually by the people in their lives.

percy never mentions hobbies, and he doesn't have a major in mind for NRU. he wants to go to college because annabeth is there. he likes the idea of a younger sibling, but can't help but feel like it might be better for his mom to try a new start without him, with a new husband and a new child as opposed to the abusive family dynamic "both he and gabe" forced her into. because he implies he believes he was at fault too!

he's lost!! he's alone, because the system that was supposed to support him when he was a KID has failed him throughout his teenage years! his narration plays it for jokes all the time!

he doesn't have friends at his new school, and so far, he hasn't had meaningful conversations with anyone besides grover, annabeth, and like... KIND OF his mom? again, no hobbies, no plans, no Friends??? no acquaintances?? he's on the swim team, but we don't even learn his coach's name, his teammates' names, what he likes doing IN swim.

it's representation that's honestly hard to read?? this feeling of not knowing what you're doing?? of being a failure all your life and feeling like you're not about to stop now??

and it would be great if rick did ANY OF IT on FUCKING PURPOSE
