The thing about being from a marvel universe is that time was just as fucky internally as it appears externally.

The christmases in that lifetime between 1988 and 1992 were some of the most impactful in all my lives, but I couldn't tell you how many of them there were.

You'd think the answer would be easy-- 4-- but no. The answer could be anywhere from 1-10 or more, and that number probably actively changed during the time I was still living in that universe.

That sinking feeling as it gradually but irresistibly becomes clear that the author regards the character you find shockingly relatable as comedy relief, and that what the text presents as the impossible confluence of grotesque circumstances which resulted in the character in question being Like That is recognisable to you as your life.

reasons to write fanfiction (I'll start):

share a cool scene that popped into your head

evoke a particular emotion the canon makes you feel

song made you think of a character or idea from canon

make people feel the same way about a character you do

make dolls kiss for fun

explore ideas the canon hints at but doesn't do anything with

traumatize characters and make them suffer

coddle characters and let them rest

had an insane idea for a crack ship and now everyone needs to know

the author of the canon was wrong and must be fixed

use familiar characters to explore your own ideas and plotlines

canon is too short and you need to wallow in the universe of the story

Normalizing loving plurality. Not even your own.

Normalize treating new potential headmates in other systems like a default positive until otherwise. Normalize hearing "I think there's a new guy in here" and saying "Wow! Do you wanna talk to them?" instead of "Oh, no :(" And, of course, normalize treating new headmates who front out of nowhere with no idea where they are with kindness, patience, and understanding. Normalize being a rock they can stand on while they get their footing.

Normalize being frustrated you can't physically hold all your friends in a separate system the way you might hold a non-plural friend group. Normalize adoring your friend's headmates. Normalize being happy for them when they talk about their plurality.
