Virtual Reality (VR) for Escape Rooms
If you've ever played in a real brick-and-mortar escape room game, then you probably remember the experience very well. How the excitement and stress mount as the clock ticks down the time and you struggle with those last few clues. Then there is another type of gaming which is completely different, in that it makes use of technology and nothing else. Maybe you've been to a games arcade and tried on the VR headset. A programmer can design any environment for you to explore. And being three-dimensional, it adds an immersive and almost life-like feeling to the gameplay.
Now imagine combining these two experiences. One thing you wouldn't need, and that’s to travel to an actual escape room location. You could play comfortably by sitting at home on your sofa. Not only that, but you can link up with friends who could be thousands of miles away, and yet you would all be able to play together as a team in a virtual escape room.
How does virtual reality work for escape rooms?
When you look at a regular escape room, it’s full of physical objects and puzzles that players interact with directly. A virtual reality room works in the same way, except that those riddles and clues are all contained within a virtual experience.
As the rooms are based in a virtual world, they can consist of concepts that are more difficult in a “reality” escape room. For example, players could be in a realistic version of space or at the bottom of the sea. Like the gaming world, they could face ghosts, monsters, aliens or virtually anything the mind can conceive.
Escape rooms are fundamentally about solving puzzles or riddles and finding clues as a team that will unlock the door for escape. That team aspect is often one of the most valued parts - people enjoy the social interaction and it’s something that many corporate clients are looking for too.
For this reason, a question that many escape room owners and players ask is, does that social aspect remain with virtual reality games? The answer is that yes, it can. Players can see each other’s “Avatars” within the virtual world and can even interact right down to passing each other virtual objects. Teamwork and player communication are just as important in a VR-based escape room, it’s not a solitary experience!
Virtual reality escape rooms retain the need and benefits of teamwork.

What does VR Experience Feel Like?
A virtual reality (VR) headset is a very handy gadget that can lead you into different worlds and let you experience them in the first person. Although it’s most popular as a gaming accessory, a virtual reality (VR) headset can have a lot of other applications, a lot of them being educational purposes in different branches and segments of life. But, despite them being cool and – with time – better and better, we cannot but wonder whether the VR experience feels as feel as realistic as they are advertised or is it still just a good simulation? Well, if you ever asked yourself that question, you’ve come to the right place, as we have the answers you want!
What can you expect when putting on a VR headset for the first time?
Ah yes, the very first time. Every VR enthusiast knows what that moment was like. The joy you first VR experience when you realize this isn’t just some gimmick. It might be the coolest thing you’ve ever experienced. Every VR user has one of those stories. The awe we felt when trying VR for the first time will be a memory, we all cherish for the rest of our lives.
The first time you put on a VR headset, you’ll probably feel just like the rest of us felt our first time… This thing you have strapped to your face is transporting you to a new world with endless possibilities! You’ll forget reality. We call the feeling of being transported, immersion. It’s when your brain lets go and is convinced what you’re looking at is real. It will be a memorable VR experience that you will never forget.
So, what does being in VR feel like?!
So, what does it feel like? It feels like being inside of a 3D virtual environment. Imagine being inside of a video game or taking part in a 3D animation. Being in VR feels like being transported to another world. Your brain is tricked into thinking that what you see is real, or at the very least, present in front of you. It’s an extraordinary medium that everyone should explore at least once. Some people who experienced VR have a hard time going back to a flat screen. It allows you to explore new worlds, travel to old ones, and build your own.
Step Into Another World
Of course, reading about VR is much different than experiencing it first-hand. So, get ready to have the best VR experience at Overworld VR. With VR, the possibilities are out of this world, even VR zombie games.

VR Setup 101: Building a Functional Game Room for VR
If you want to get into VR gaming, now is the perfect time to get started. A variety of options exist across multiple platforms, from standalone headsets to consoles and, of course, PCs. But more important than the hardware, the already-rich library of VR games gets bigger every day. Here is how to create your own VR game room. Or you can visit Overworld’s VR game room to have an immersive experience.
Clear the area
Make sure the play space is free of tripping hazards such as chairs, tables, and anything you can bump into while playing.
Plenty of space
The more space you have for VR, the better. Valve recommends at least 6.5 x 5 feet, though more is better. Both HTC and Valve base stations support a distance up to 16 feet apart, which should give you plenty of space in your VR game room.
Clear the airspace
Try to use a game room with plenty of room overhead with no dangling ceiling light unless you want shattered bulbs and glass on your feet. Rooms with low ceilings are generally not recommended. If you can barely touch the ceiling on tiptoes, that should be enough space.
VR doesn’t like reflective surfaces
Mirrors and windows have the potential to interfere with the motion tracking of your VR HMD and/or controllers. If these items aren't movable, consider covering them with fabric or something so that they don't reflect light generated by the motion tracking devices. Determining if a mirror or other reflective surface negatively affects your tracking is a trial-and-error process.
Setting boundaries
When you set your boundaries to the wall, you may find yourself accidentally hitting the wall during gameplay. Instead, set the boundaries so that you have plenty of space for flailing arms, especially when you are playing a VR zombie game.

History of Virtual Reality Gaming
Today’s virtual reality technologies build upon ideas that date back to the 1800s, almost to the very beginning of practical photography. In 1838, the first stereoscope was invented, using twin mirrors to project a single image. That eventually developed into the View-Master, patented in 1939 and still produced today.
The use of the term “virtual reality,” however, was first used in the mid-1980s when Jaron Lanier, founder of VPL Research, began to develop the gear, including goggles and gloves, needed to experience what he called “virtual reality.”
Even before that, however, technologists were developing simulated environments. One milestone was the Sensorama in 1956. Morton Heilig’s background was in the Hollywood motion picture industry. He wanted to see how people could feel like they were “in” the movie. The Sensorama experience simulated a real city environment, which you “rode” through on a motorcycle. Multisensory stimulation let you see the road, hear the engine, feel the vibration, and smell the motor’s exhaust in the designed “world.”
Heilig also patented a head-mounted display device, called the Telesphere Mask, in 1960. Many inventors would build upon his foundational work.
From 1962 onward, the only people to really research and develop virtual reality headsets were government agencies and related contractors, mostly for research, training, and administrative purposes, but these would be important developments nonetheless.
Today’s current virtual reality gear owes a debt of gratitude to the pioneering inventors of the past six decades who paved the way for the low-cost, high-quality devices which are easily accessible.

How Virtual Reality Games Work
Virtual reality games are getting a lot of attention these days, especially from our youngest generation. They are becoming popular now, and there is no doubt that their growth will be explosive as 2020 approaches.
The computer-generated environment takes the user into a whole new world. People experience a lot of fascinating things while playing games. Are you curious about what happens when you put on a VR headset? We take you on a ride behind the scenes into the technology involved.
Virtual Reality Gaming Accessories
VR Gaming Headsets & Goggles: The most important VR gaming accessory is the one you wear on your head to immerse yourself in the game. The headsets/goggles category is expanding rapidly. Products range from high-end, motion-control VR headsets that capture and transmit your full head and eye movements, to more simple VR goggles that merely display the simulated 3D game environment.
VR Game Controllers: A VR controller translates your physical actions into game performance. Like traditional video games, most VR games utilize some kind of hand-based controller (joystick, gamepad, or even gloves) for pointing, firing, and sending commands. More advanced VR games also use a motion detector/controller to sense your real-life activities (walking, throwing, and so on) and recreate them within the game.
VR Gaming Gloves: Sensor-equipped VR gaming gloves have enabled a new level of detail in today's newest VR games. Whereas VR motion detectors can sense broad, whole-body movements, VR gloves enable the detection of minute hand and finger movements, allowing developers to create a new generation of VR games that ask players to pick up small items, grasp and carry objects, and so on.
VR Game room
All of the equipment is set up in a VR game room, available for you to start your VR experience. Come down to Overworld VR now to have the best VR experience. There are many game options from VR zombie games, VR escape rooms and many more.

The Good and the Bad of Escaping to Virtual Reality
Researchers believe new immersive technology could lead to isolation, but maybe when social needs are met online, people won't need in-person interaction as much.
Escapism – Escape from the Real World
Escapism in psychology is the withdrawal from the real world into an illusory reality. In the past, people withdrew into the imaginary world of TV, regarded the actors as their friends or dreamt of realizing their own dreams in an imaginary world. According to media psychology, the medium is chosen as an escape from everyday life and serves to satisfy affective and cognitive needs.
At the centre of the thesis, however, is the motivation of the user. People who withdraw from reality are often dissatisfied with their everyday lives. They find joy in a world created by them, which they can control themselves – even if it is only in their head. With the increasing development of technologies, however, their own imagination has increasingly been supplemented by technological possibilities.
Virtual Experiences Have a More Powerful Psychological Connection
According to Dr. Grace Ahn, behavior researcher and assistant professor at the University of Georgia, "Decades worth of research has shown that very brief interactions in virtual worlds have residual effects that transfer into the physical world and change the way that you think and behave in the physical world."
Making a connection in the virtual world involves multiple factors that strengthen the connection. The user experiences everything firsthand and is in control that gives the powerful element of being self-endorsing. Your VR self is telling your real self about the experience, and that is extremely hard to negate.
A Solution Approach
In order to counter this phenomenon, it is up to the manufacturers of headsets and games to control excessive consumption. They have to store pauses in the system, which force the user to emerge from the virtual world and deal with the real world.
As with all things in life, you have to weigh things up and make decisions. There is no black and white, technologies all have their shades of grey and these need to be explored and adapted to individual needs, always with a view to one’s own well-being and the social environment.

Advantages of Using VR Games for Team Building
Team building is the foundation of strong company culture. Your team members need to know each other, trust each other, and rely on each other during various projects and assignments. In these COVID-riddled times, in-person bonding and corporate team-building exercises have taken a back seat. Due to social distancing rules, many organizations have turned to virtual team building – and that is precisely where VR team building shines.
A VR group experience contributes to increased motivation and higher productivity, especially if your employees are limited to working in isolation from home.
Fresh Set of Experience
Compared to the usual team-building activities, VR gives employees fresh, fun, and exciting ways to interact and collaborate. From virtual retreats to immersive gameplay, there’s a wealth of exercises to choose from. Whether the goal is communication or problem-solving, you can empower your team to achieve it with the right group virtual reality experience.
High Levels of Engagement
In most team-building events, some stay on the sidelines, content in observing their teammates have fun. However, in virtual reality team building, engagement and interaction levels are through the roof! Design inclusive events where everyone gets a turn. These unique immersive experiences will foster friendly competition, strengthen your employee’s communication skills, and improve teamwork.
Cost-Effective
Compared to spending money on transportation, accommodation, food, and other expenses of a traditional team building event, group VR activities are much more cost-effective. The initial investment in a VR headset and a computer that can run VR experiences may be high, but your teams can use and reuse those headsets time and again.
Furthermore, it isn’t wise to gather all your coworkers together in one space in the middle of a global pandemic. They can participate in virtual reality team building from the safety and comfort of their homes without exposing anyone to a potential respiratory infection!

All About VR Escape Rooms
What is a VR escape room?
You and your friends are free to walk around your room in our VR (no cords tethering you to a computer) and it is as if you are walking around any regular room with your friends. You will be able to see, talk, and interact with your friends as you solve the escape room. This is like any other “Live” escape room you have been in, but we can change the environment to put you in places that we cannot build: outer space, under water, time travel, etc.
How do VR Escape Rooms Work?
Players in VR escape rooms solve puzzles just as they would in a traditional escape room.
They will find themselves in a fantastical environment — a space station, or under the sea — and start exploring. There may be objects to pick up and manipulate. There may be codes to decipher. Doors to unlock. When they solve one set of puzzles, they can be seamlessly transported into the next area — allowing the experience to stay fresh throughout their booking.
Success or failure, these customers can return to experience different rooms in the same space, escape rooms are able to drastically increase the number of rooms they have available.
Our VR escape rooms won’t make you sick
Our VR will not cause motion sickness! The sickness that some feel when using VR is caused by the sensation of seeing things move, while your body is standing still (ex: roller coaster VR at home). Our VR Escape Rooms have no artificial motion, so the discrepancy between what you feel and what you see does not happen. Our VR creates an environment around you and matches your every move.
A more rewarding experience than your standard escape room
Standard, physical escape rooms are good fun and filled with physical puzzles and secrets for you to unravel. But the use of VR headsets and controllers will literally blow you away, allowing you to escape reality for a few hours.
Once your team is immersed in your chosen world, get ready for the fun and excitement to begin. Not only is good teamwork and excellent communication important, but your team will also need to be collectively sharp with very keen observation skills.

How Virtual Reality Games Work – Technology Behind VR
How does VR game rooms work? How does a virtual reality headset make you think that you're sitting in a spaceship in a distant galaxy when you are, in fact, actually about to bump into the kitchen counter? Well, with the army of VR devices expanding, we'll be explaining how they actually work.
Once your headset and power source are secured, some kind of input is also required for you to connect - whether this is through head tracking, controllers, hand tracking, voice, on-device buttons, or trackpads.
Total immersion is what everyone making a VR headset, game or app is aiming towards - making the virtual reality experience so real that we forget the computer, headgear and accessories and act exactly as we would in the real world. So how do we get there?
The basics
The most important piece of a virtual reality kit is the headset, a device like a thick pair of goggles that goes over your eyes. The more expensive, higher quality headsets need to be connected to a computer to run apps and games, while some cheaper ones use a cellphone clipped to the front of the headset.
All headsets need to be used alongside a good quality pair of headphones, and there are other optional accessories from hand controllers to treadmills that are all designed to enhance your simulated experience of being in another world. Hand controllers translate your real-world gestures into whatever game or application you’re using, although standard gaming joypads can also be used.
Different types of VR games
There are individual virtual reality games and multi-player, online virtual reality games. Some VR games place players in physical combat environments, while others involve less confrontational pursuits, such as auto racing and acrobatic flying. Other VR games challenge players – either alone or with a group of friends – to solve problems, move objects, or explore new places.
Overworld VR Game Rooms
OverworldVR is the premier virtual reality arcade centre in Singapore. We deliver social multiplayer and immersive solo experiences, centred on having the best and most extensive game library available in Singapore, coupled with the best service and friendly support.

The Future of VR Arcade
The olden days of Arcade
Arcades have come a long way. In the olden days, they were a place to hang out with friends or a venue to spend time away while waiting for your movie to start since they were always conveniently located nearby.
Besides hanging out, arcades have also been an avenue for showcasing new technologies (arcade gaming machines) before their mass adoption by the public, such as the gaming consoles when they were still a tad bit expensive. Popular modern arcade games like the beloved Daytona USA, Dance Dance Revolution, King of Fighters 97 mesmerised an entire generation and the next.
However, in recent years, arcades have been all but disappearing with fewer people visiting shopping malls due to the emergence of convenient online shopping and social media, which was even more exacerbated by the covid pandemic. These lead to traditional arcades shuttering down one after another.
Emerging new technology
But all is not lost. With emerging technologies like virtual reality headsets, metaverse experience, arcades are making a comeback. We can call it an evolution of the traditional arcade so to speak. With virtual reality, immersing yourself in a virtual environment is now akin to those you see in futuristic movies such as Ready Player One, made possible at VR arcade, OverworldVR.
Future of VR arcade
Almost half of all worldwide investments in virtual reality fall under entertainment. The VR global gaming market alone was valued at $11.5 billion in 2019 and is predicted to grow at an annual rate of 30 percent from 2020 to 2027.
Beyond gaming, virtual reality technology is revolutionizing the entire world of entertainment, including creating more immersive, engaging experiences across sports, performing arts, visitor attractions, and social media.
We are moving closer and closer to a future in which the virtual and real worlds become inseparable, and entertainment plays a key role in that transformation. It’s unlikely that virtual reality will entirely replace traditional forms of entertainment in the near future, but XR technology will continue to make entertainment more immersive and engaging. That means we’ll get to experience more VR entertainment, particularly as equipment becomes lighter, better, and more affordable.

Best VR Experience in Singapore
Is this real life, or is this just fantasy? Find out for yourself at this amazing virtual reality arcade in Singapore.
We’re big fans of all the fun activities available in the Lion City (we’ve got everything from bowling to hiking to kayaking) but we know things can get a little stale. Sure, VTLs are open, but some of us aren’t too keen on paying exorbitant prices for Covid-19 tests just to travel. So, what if we told you, it’s possible to get out of the country, without actually getting out of the country? With virtual reality, you can! Grab your friends and a headset and explore the VR arcade at OverworldVR that’ll transport you to another world.
Why choose OverworldVR?
OverworldVR is the premier virtual reality arcade centre in Singapore. We deliver social multiplayer and immersive solo experiences, centred on having the best and most extensive game library available in Singapore, coupled with the best service and friendly support.
OverworldVR opens the gateway to an alternate reality by providing the most compelling VR experiences, immersing people into the virtual realm with the best hardware on the market, the most extensive game library and the most satisfactory private PC VR and equipment VR game experience.
My experience
I had the most amazing experience at OverworldVR. It was the most fun I had in months. In the beginning, I was hesitant and nervous as I had never gone to a VR arcade before. But the staff was really friendly and helpful. Even though it took quite a while, the staff guided us through the basics of a VR game. They were very patient throughout and I am very grateful for that. Overall, a very fun experience, I recommend ARVI arena to play with up to 8 players and also the VR escape rooms are challenging but felt really accomplished after beating it with friends.
I would recommend 1-2 hours of play as it gets a little tiring at the end. You should go as a group of 4 to 8 for the best group experience. I would definitely go to Overworld VR again.

Why VR Escape Rooms Are So Fun?
The VR Singapore escape room concept is no slouch in terms of innovation. The invention of such experiences grew from extrapolating games. Afterward, moving them into the real world.
VR technology is then combined into these rooms. This is done by connecting them with VR gaming devices.
VR escape rooms in Singapore have turned the concept into an enjoyable and simple VR experience that all ages and genders can enjoy.
This concept involves:
Taking a team of players. Lock them in an unfamiliar place. Let them work together to see if they can escape.
This will only be achieved through teamwork, finding clues, solving puzzles, and eventually making your escape.
New Adventures Lets You Learn Unique Things
Stepping out of your comfort zone always lets you learn new things. With a VR escape room and its many different games, not only do you get to experience new worlds and settings, but you also learn about various new things.
Whether it is a futuristic setting with cyborgs or escaping traps in a dilapidated cabin in the middle of the woods, any adventure will let you explore things from a different perspective and learn unique things. With the thrills of the new world, you also learn new information or techniques that can prove useful to you in real life.
Strengthens Teamwork In The Most Creative Way
Whether it is with your friends, family, or colleagues, you need not rely on traditional team-building activities anymore. A VR escape room requires a group of people to interact and cooperate to escape dangerous dimensions, creating the best VR group experience.
Finding clues and solving puzzles requires everyone to work together to find a way out of the situation. For example, when time travelling back to Chernobyl, figuring out what went wrong and finding solutions to unanswered questions is only possible with multiple minds working on it together. This means that through VR rooms, you can strengthen teamwork in the most creative way possible.

VR Escape Room Experience in Singapore
Imagine that you are making your way through an escape room game that said in an underground bunker deep in the Amazon jungle. Without warning the walls part 2 reveal slits set in the Stone from which the poison darts of blow guns rain down upon you. you need to jump and press yourself against the walls to avoid a certain death. Unfortunately, there are a number of restraints which makes us unable to play out these scenarios in real life. But you can do it in a virtual escape room. VR allow you to escape reality and immerse in an entirely new world.
Types of VR escape games
There is more than one type of VR that can be used for escape room games - here’s a quick run-down:
Seated VR. As it sounds, players are seated to participate in the game. These types of games tend to be the most space-efficient for escape room owners.
Teleport VR. In this sort of VR, players are usually standing in a small area (maybe 2x2 meters). They can make small movements within the game world by simply walking but to go any further they use a “teleport” function
Free-roam VR. This uses wireless VR headsets in larger play areas. Players can move within the virtual environment by simply walking.
Reasons why Singaporeans should go to a VR escape room

Time for VR Games to Shine
Video conferencing tool Zoom is undoubtedly the breakout app of the coronavirus pandemic, which has curtailed travel and face-to-face meetings.
But some tech firms are already looking beyond video conferencing. Their solution for the socially distant world? Collaboration tools that use virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR).
Both technologies saw a surge in interest during the pandemic in Singapore, especially for virtual reality gaming, analysts say.
Growing popularity of VR games
The e-sports sector will grow even further as virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) become increasingly widespread. VR Escape Rooms VS. Traditional Escape Rooms
A child has vanished. The only person who knows where he is being held is in a coma. Can you and your team of detectives penetrate their subconscious, and find out where the child is being held?
A perfect storyline for an exhilarating escape room experience. But which kind of escape room would deliver a better experience – a VR escape room, or a traditional escape room? This is the question that we will explore in this blog – does a VR escape room offer a better experience than a traditional escape room?
Visuals
When it comes to visuals, traditional escape rooms obviously give a far more realistic experience when compared to virtual escape rooms. However, this depends on the creators of the escape room and their level of perfection. While the graphics of a VR escape room can be incredibly intricate and fascinating, they might not feel as real as traditional ones.
However, virtual escape rooms have more freedom as they can exceed the boundaries of reality and transport you into an absolutely unreal world. A world that one can’t access in a traditional VR experience.
Immersion and Intensity
When it comes to immersion, there’s no doubt that a VR experience is way more intense than a traditional one. While a traditional escape room can appeal to various senses, a VR escape room hits the ball right out of the park with an extremely intense level of immersion. With zombies, robots, and awfully real ghosts attacking you while you attempt to escape the fictional world that you’re in, a VR experience can be highly intense.
Choice of Themes
Providing a wide range of escape room adventure themes can be extremely difficult for a traditional escape room owner. This may require a whole lot of manpower, space, and many other expenses. Furthermore, the themes in a traditional escape room are limited to a certain extent.
On the other hand, VR escape rooms can provide you with a huge collection of themes filled with unimaginable experiences to choose from with very little effort. Since everything is absolutely digital, one doesn’t require as much space or manpower to execute an exceptional VR escape room experience. Resulting in a wider, more intense, and unique set of themes.

Reasons Why Singaporeans Should Visit VR Arcades
From embracing mother nature to a relaxing weekend staycation in the heart of Orchard Road, there is really so much that you can do in Singapore to pass the time! But honestly, nothing really comes close to the thrill of being able to travel again, well that’s until you’ve experienced VR arcade games.
As its name suggests, VR games transport you into the virtual world where almost everything is possible! Space expeditions, zombie battles or even being your favorite game character, the options are endless. So, what are you still waiting for? It’s time for to visit a VR arcade and have the time of your life.
Benefit #1 Realistic Experience
In a virtual reality game, you don’t sit in front of a screen and stare at it for hours. After putting on a headset, it feels as if you are actually in a new environment and having a realistic experience. In VR games, killing zombies becomes a much more immersive experience as you use your body to control your character.
Benefit #2 Helps in Burning Calories
Instead of sitting on the couch for hours with a controller, VR gaming enables you to be physically active while experiencing all the fun of traditional games. You may have to walk around the room and flap your arms around in order to complete and objective, and this helps in burning calories.
Benefit #3 Stress Reduction
Singaporeans are always stressed. Going to VR arcade can help in coping with stress, as the games offer an escape from anxiety for some time, which had been caused by the realities of real life.
Benefit #4 VR gaming new age
Last but not the least, Virtual Reality games are the new age of gaming. And it is a next level technology of the near future. For this reason, more developers are working on Virtual gaming to make it exciting and fun to play. It is time to try something new and keep up with the ongoing trend!
