Assignments are due on Sunday, August 3rd (8/3/25) at 11:59 PM PST.

A few things to remember as you start writing/drawing:

-The minimum word count for fanfics written for the exchange is 500 words. Fanart must be completed.

-You do not have to do all three of your exchange recipient's requests, one will do. It also does not have to be the one that matches your offer, if you find that one of the others inspires you.

-Please try to make sure your work fits the given prompt. It does not have to include all of the tags, but should include at least one (or more) of the given disabilities and at least one of the characters (if there are any), although you should base your work on the prompt in the description.

-All works must contain Obi-Wan Kenobi, in some capacity, even though the AO3 requests do not contain him as a character. Again, please try to base his role in the fic on the recipient's prompt.

-Respect your recipient's Do Not Wants (DNWs).

-Explicit content is allowed if the recipient has the "Explicit" or "Any rating" tags in their request. Do NOT write explicit content if the request contains no rating tag, or the "General", "Teen and up", or "Mature" tags.

-If you need to default on your assignment (meaning you cannot complete it), please send an email to the exchange gmail above so a pinch-hitter can be assigned in your place. If both you and your gifter default, no pinch-hitter will be assigned and you may not receive a gift.

-If you wish to be assigned a beta reader, please send an email or DM so one can be found for you.

-Please do not post your work on any sites other than AO3 before the works are revealed on Sunday, August 17th (8/17/25).

-Please also note that the "Description" box in your offers is only meant for DNWs, not fic prompts.

Hi, I just read the rules over again after doing my sign-up and I missed the part the first time around about not writing an actual prompt in the description box. Should I go and edit that out?

Hello! Thank you for signing up! It's not necessary to edit it out, but know that any prompts in the offers descriptions will be disregarded during the matching process, and the prompts in the requests of your giftee should take priority when it comes time to write your gift.

If that changes anything about how you want to go about filling out your sign-up, feel free to edit.

If you have any DNWs, don't forget to put those in your request and offer prompts as well!

Hello! When putting characters in, does it mean the person writing my prompt HAS to include every character or can it be more of a suggestion of who can be included??

It would just be a suggestion of who can be included! If there's anyone you absolutely want to have included in your gift, you can indicate that in the description space with your prompt.

Hey this is maybe a silly question but I've never done a fic exchange before so with the prompts do people usually write the prompts as a summary or just bullet points??? How much is expected in terms of prompt? 😅 thank you and sorry again if this is a dumb question lmao

Hi! Not a silly question at all. Generally, exchange prompts should simply be short indications of what you would like to see in your gift. It doesn't necessarily have to be a summary, just something to guide your gifter in the right direction.

What you don't want to do is make your prompt the blow-by-blow of a full plot. Prompts are simply meant to spark creativity and allow authors to write something that ideally they would want to write, and that you would want to read!

Good examples of past prompts:

"Obi-Wan and Anakin bonding over having the same condition. Your choice, whether it is something physical like diabetes or epilepsy, or perhaps something like autism."

"Mostly or totally non-verbal General Kenobi, & how the war changes as a result. Can be autistic / HoH / physical cause / combination of causes, I'd love to see AAC / sign language, can feature other injuries because of being non-verbal, etc."

"212th taking care of Obi-Wan post injury or disability onset and helping him adjust to life with mobility aides and overall very positive outlook on future despite everything"

Hello and welcome to the 2025 Obi-Wan Kenobi Disability Exchange

This is a disability-positive fic and art exchange created to bring more disabled Obi-Wan content into the wonderful world of fandom. To participate, you will need a registered account on AO3. If you don't have one, send me a message here and I can get you an invitation to register. If you want to participate as a pinch-hitter or beta-reader, please fill out this google form.

If you have questions about the exchange itself, check the AO3 Gift Exchange FAQ and the OWKDE FAQ first, and if they aren't answered there, send an ask. If you have questions about your specific fic or assignment please use DMs or email owkdisabilityexchange@gmail.com.

Things to keep in mind:

-As this is a disability-positive event, ableism will not be tolerated. Please be respectful and sensitive about the subject matter. If you have concerns, send a message here, and I will do my best to answer them.

-Disabilities include but are not limited to: chronic illness (e.g. epilepsy, diabetes, fibromyalgia), physical disability (e.g. mobility issues, blindness, deafness), and mental/intellectual disability (e.g. autism, adhd, schizophrenia). You could even do a Force-related or in-universe disability, although what this would look like is up to you.

-Obi-Wan must be disabled in some way, even if he is not the main character, but other characters are also welcome to have disabilities.

-This event will not allow the use of GenAI for fics or fanart. GenAI does not belong in fandom spaces. The OWKDE is meant for authors, artists, and fans to create for each other and make something meaningful. That said, fans of all skill levels are welcome here.

-The minimum word count for fanfics written for the exchange will be 500 words. Fanart must be fully rendered and complete (more polished than a sketch).
