ICT in Changing One's Worldview

1. How did this subject change the way I view ICT?

In the subject Empowerment Technology (or EmTech for short), our teacher made me realize again that there will always be a bad and good side to everything. Let's take the phone for example, you can use it to easily message each other now compared to the olden times, but the very same technology that let us be more connected can be easily used to make us fight each other by impersonating a certain someone and using that account to give false information.

2. Are they tools to be used to achieve higher goals?

Nevertheless, there are also people that uses this tool to achieve something that actually helps or just make other people happy. The example of this is this post or this. Some people might not think of this as something like a higher goal but for me it is.

3. Reflect on how websites are being used. Are you agreeing to it or not?

With the internet today, there are all sorts of websites that are being used today. There are websites for videos, streaming, and social media. There are naturally things that I will agree and disagree on how to use it. Just like how Burger King used Twitch's donation feature to promote themselves across thousands of viewers and using it for an ad (article and video). This was something that is clearly not ok even if it was not on Twitch's TOS, but generally as long as you don't do this kinds of stuff or not be mean and trouble other people then I find it ok.

4. do you have recommendations regarding ICT uses in the country?

In my opinion, since may Filipinos are already using the internet. They should be lessoned to double check information that they get on the internet, and to learn how to prevent scams and viruses entering your emails and phone messages.

Multimedia and ICT

A. My Understanding of Multimedia

Multimedia according to the University of Delaware it is the use of computer to present and combine text, audio, video, with links and tools that let the user navigate, interact, create and, communicate. Some examples of multimedia are news articles, and blogs like this. It makes the user interact and learn more about the subject since he/she is controlling what information they are getting. As stated also previously it uses obviously text, audio/music, video, pictures, gifs, and more. I usually think of multimedia as the more sociable brother of traditional media since multimedia is more accessible and more interesting to use compared to traditional media in terms of finding more info about a subject or topic.

B. My Way of Using Multimedia 

The way I use multimedia is mostly for looking for entertainment by either going to a website to read manga (the website on this link is still on beta during the time I’m making this because it was attacked.), or watch videos about vtubers or streams. The websites I mainly use except for the 3 that are hyperlinked, are usually just twitter and reddit, and I only use those website to look through the endless feed of memes and drawings made by artist I like (e.g. avogado6, porforever, and misamisatoto).

C. The Significance of Multimedia (in my opinion)

In my opinion, the significance of multimedia is that the users, are no longer just passively intaking the information. They are controlling the kinds of information that they intake and can actively search more about it to make sure that it is actually factual and have all the details that is needed. Multimedia also makes the users navigate and actually search for the topics that they are intrigue about, effectively making them look through more articles and making them know more about it rather than just giving the bare minimum about the topic.
