Progetto Isos+ di Smilo - Tavolara from O-Zeta on Vimeo.
CONTEXT
The ISOS project has enabled the emergence of an active network of small islands managers in the Marittimo area and has also contributed to the creation and development of the SMILO association, which supports small islands around the world in their sustainable management of their resources and assets. The project partners were able to carry out pilot actions (energy, waste or heritage), raise awareness among various audiences about the fragility of island environments and the need to protect these environments. They actively contributed to the network created by their participation in the technical workshops for sharing good practices and by the joint drafting of the 2 white papers, key documents of the ISOS project.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The ISOS+ project is almost made up of the same partnership, to which the SMILO association has naturally been added since it is the product of the initial reflections of the first project. ISOS+ connects past, present and future actions around a common vision of sustainable islands. This new project therefore aims to:
Promote the products of the ISOS project such as the production of a series of mini movies dedicated to the pilot islands, the promotion of white papers through a specific webinar, the organization of the Celebrate Islands day on each pilot island… Develop the “Sustainable Islands” network by organizing two new technical workshops: ecological restoration in an island environment and agriculture in small islands. Broaden the good practices by allowing the islands to carry out an action either resulting from the recommendations of the ISOS project or addressing a new theme. Building an intervention strategy in favor of the sustainable development of small islands on a European scale which would make it possible to build the island projects of tomorrow. As part of the project, SMILO is in charge of organizing the webinar about the promotion of ISOS white papers and, in collaboration with the Sardinia Region, the workshop on sustainable agriculture in small islands.

LENS TEST - Cooke 18-100mm T3 from OLD FAST GLASS on Vimeo.
This is a lens test of our vintage Cooke Varotal 18-100mm T3 zoom. The purpose was to demonstrate the lens' performance and illustrate its characteristics including: color palette, contrast, sharpness, vignetting, distortion, breathing, close-focus, lens flares and bokeh. The test was shot on a RED Epic Dragon and recorded at 6K HD. Since the lens was designed to cover Super 35mm film, this test illustrates how the lens performs beyond what it was intended to handle.
The test was conducted in a controlled environment. Only incandescent lighting was used, and the lights were not dimmed. The purpose was to produce the most accurate colors possible. Images were recorded and exported in DRAGONcolor2 and REDgamma4 with no corrections made, including no color grading and no sharpening. Images were captured at ISO 500 (to get cleaner shadow detail), and at the lowest compression possible with the camera balanced to 3200K.
NOTES: The water bottle was placed at minimum focus distance. We apologize for not having the color chart and focus chart in the tests for any of our zoom lenses and we only shot them wide-open. We had a lot of glass to test and we simply ran out of time.

Watchtower of China from Leonardo Dalessandri on Vimeo.
Creating Watchtower of China was a labour of love. I say labour because we, meaning my crew and I, throughout three consecutive summers, visited over seventy cities and travelled countless thousands of kilometers. Everywhere we went, we found ourselves channelling the powerful energy of this great land to find the strength and inspiration to continue our quest along what became life-changing for all of us. When we initially gathered together we were a film crew. By the time we were done, three years later, we had become a family.
I say love, because what we have created is more than just a film. It is a declaration of our love for this Country.
When I set out on this project I wanted to create a visual tribute to China - an honest observation of daily life. Not a surface travelog, but a real and raw representation of the cultural history. An honoring of Chinese culture, identity, and the complex and varied way of living that spans the enormity of the Chinese territory. A window on the dedication and discipline, the craftsmanship and hard work of the Chinese people. They have an energy of moving forward together as they draw power and inspiration from a culture that looks back over thousands of years, yet rushes fearlessly towards a bold future.
I started to feel this intense energy, as though this cultural pride and determination were now moving through me and my camera. The experience of this film buried itself so deeply within me that I can still feel the hard day’s work in my muscles.
It couldn’t have come together without the help of my dear friends, especially Jolien Snyers and Ricky Choy (did you spot Ricky in the film? She’s in multiple shots and sings in the very last taxi shot!)
It is one of my proudest accomplishments. I hope you love it.
