i am not sure if this is just reddit (it probably 99% is) or just a 21st century equivalent of nixonian reactionary turn of the Youth grown up during a reactionary backlash, but people going, "this misadventure was the lowest point in your life," and "you couldn't waterboard this story out of me," about a story where the OP just had some consensual harmless sexual misadventures with his buddies (and his wife calling him gay and leaving him when she heard the story) is genuinely insane. what happened to "gen z will save us"? The kids I've taught too are so reflexively sex negative (including, like, just not wanting to engage in discussion about history of sexuality/gender) that ppl younger than me are seemingly, on average, more homophobic about cishet guys having consensual playing around with each other than gen xers I know.

I don't know exactly how to articulate this but... if you repeatedly show historical fiction women rejecting traditionally female skills/duties and doing swords instead, because swords is obviously the Most Important Thing, you are kind of implying that all the work that has been traditionally done by female hands for millennia was useless all along and not, you know, keeping civilization going. Because it's usually rejected not as a personal preference but as This Is The Important Stuff (male work) and That is The Dumb Useless Stuff (women's work) and that kind of bothers me. The message was supposed to be Vital But Underpaid and Underappreciated, not women's work is insignificant so let's all go do swords.

btw you should absolutely read stuff you don't agree with. you should think critically about it. you should reflect and find different stimuli and maybe even form your own thought based on or opposed to it. ideas aren't contagious and reading words someone else has told you are "bad" won't infect you like a virus and make you "evil". read with your own brain.

i was opening up the nature center and a little wasp flew by while i unlocked the door so i let him out. then i looked down, and there was a spider, a millipede, and two rollie-pollie bugs waiting at the door and they all walked out in a line like they’d been at a party together overnight.
