Okay! It's time to get a bit controversial up in here for Trope Week,

Let me begin with a reminder to be kind, and that just because you don't like something, doesn't make it bad or "gross"; likewise, just because someone says they don't enjoy something you love does not mean they are attacking you.

Welcome to Trope Week 2025!

This is one of our longest-running "special focus" weeks here at Potions & Parchment. I LOVE tropes on multiple levels. My anxiety loves the familiar, so tropes provide soothing and comfort because I know what I am getting, just not how I am getting it. I also love putting them under the microscope to see how they work or questioning why they do in some fandoms but don't in others. Finally, I love tropes because they become a shorthand language in our fandom to help us identify others who share similar tastes to ourselves and to build friendships and grow community, which is wonderful! Keep an eye out for the various posts and activities happening this week, including Trope Masquerade, which kicks off for writers today! A fun event that will allow writers to choose how much to challenge themselves and to keep the audience guessing in the best possible way!
