I have a question for those who live in the UK……
Come Election time whether local elections or the General Election, are you fed up of looking at the list of candidates to find that maybe only 1 or 2 out of the anything up to 10 or more candidates actually live in your local area, the area that they wish to serve either in the local council or in Parliament?
Shouldn’t anyone who wants to represent an area actually know about the area, know where the trouble spots are, know what the people want fixing in the area?
Surely, only someone whose primary home is in the area that they wish to represent is going to give their own neighbourhood a fighting chance?
Surely, someone whose primary home has been in the area that they wish to represent for say 5 years, going to be more invested in the schools, local hospitals, state of the roads, etc, than someone who doesn’t even live in the area or worse still lives hundreds of miles away or even in a different country?
If you have found yourself answering “Yes” to those questions then there is something that you can do to change the situation.
There is a petition on the official governments petition website that calls for a change in the law to ensure that what you’ve just answered yes to changes and becomes law. A law that will only permit someone who has lived in their primary home for a period of at least 5 years will be allowed to stand as a candidate for the local council ward or parliamentary constituency in the area of their primary home.
I ask that you not only sign the petition yourself but that you please also share it with family, friends, coworkers, everyone that you know. That way we as the people of the UK will be able to tell the Government what we want changing and why.
So that we are represented by someone who will fight for our own neighbourhoods.
(If you do not live in the UK but have friends, etc who do then please help by sharing this post with them)

Photo op after leading the Dedication service for the new Royal British Legion Radcliffe Branch and for the New Branch Standard in a combined Dedication service that took place on Sunday 29th September 2024 at the Parish Church of St Thomas and St. John in Radcliffe, Greater Manchester.
The service was attended and witnessed by HM Lord-Lieutenant for Greater Manchester, The Mayor of Bury, several Members of Parliament as well as local councillors and public members of the town of Radcliffe.
The service was well received by everyone who attended, with the Branch Chairman of the Radcliffe Royal British Legion Branch saying after the service that having the members of the Branch making part of the Dedication themselves (response and prayer as well as a public declaration to honour the tradition of the Royal British Legion), made the service feel “extra special for the Branch because they were involved in it.”
It was an honour to lead the Dedication service, ushering in a new Branch to support not only the current generation of Veterans who make up the Branch numbers but also for future generations of both serving personnel and Veterans who will be able to use the Branch for support as well as friendship.
