“I come from a desert from very far away. the days of the desert or scorching while the nights are frigid but there are things to do there that you can’t do anywhere here.” Remembering the shield surfing back home.
Oh boy. How the heck does a guy dress for weather like that? Sounds like a nightmare -- but home is home, right?
“Like what? I’ve been through two deserts before -- though they were pretty small. Nobody lives in ‘em.”

A smirk crosses his face at that “A strong boy to think that way.” Still he had answered the boys questions and this link didn’t seem nearly as hostile as the others he had met.
“Thanks!”
His smile grows at the compliment, but then he blinks, realising that he hasn’t asked the most important question of all!
The boy seems excited, and he leans in closer, paying close attention to everything the other says. This King has thoroughly earned his respect -- and he doesn’t often get to speak with other people, so he’s feeling pretty talkative right now.
“You know -- I’ve been chattin’ all about my home but I never got to hear about yours! What’s it like!?”

He knelt down so they we’re closer to each other’s height “Now there is something that I can agree with you on. Royalty has no right to live the high Life when the people suffer.” Tilting his head “I might be a king but I hunt my own food and work hard. A boy should not be tasked with so much.”
“You know -- you sound like a mighty nice King, Mister Majesty. I wish Hyrule had someone like you lookin’ out for it.”
His people are lucky, and he beams -- a wide, toothy grin.
“Mm, maybe not... But I’ll be okay. I’ve always looked after myself; didn’t have no family to teach me, so I had ta’ learn or starve. It’s everyone else I worry about.”
He sees the kids in the villages... And truth be told, he’s a little bit envious. They get to be kids, after all, while he’s never really had that chance. But that’s also why he fights; so that other kids never have to live like he did.

“I agree everyone should know how to hunt…. A princess however is provided for by her family and by her station. She doesn’t have to worry about going hungry under normal circumstances.” He explained…. However talking to the boy like this was making his neck ache
“Our Kingdom ain’t.... Exactly the best. The people’re strugglin’ to make ends meet and there’re monsters everywhere. Seems unfair that they get to live like that when everyone else...”
Now he’s just mad and frustrated. Stupid, stupid!
“I’m pickin’ up the pieces of the messes these Royal folk make all the time. It’s not fair.”

“Of course they would be grossed out by that, a princess normally doesn’t think about the process of getting the food on to the plate.” His hand pressing against his own face and dragging down slowly “Anyone would know that.”
“They don’t? Why? Hunting is a life skill!”
Everyone should know how to hunt. Even Princesses. Impa isn’t going to be around forever.
“Maybe I should teach ‘em. A person who can’t hunt for themselves is no better than a baby!”

Oh boy, he knelt down so they were on equal grounds while talking, even while knelt down he was still taller than him.
“How to speak properly to royalty hmm?” A hand on his chin “First you should bow when you greet them a small bit….. If it is a princess you are to call her Your highness.” Making sure he was following along.
“You do not interrupt a member of the royal family when they are talking, but if they hold their hand up you are to stop talking.” He did stop there that should be more than enough to seem respectable to a princess. Most of the normal populace knew those rules
“Eh--??? How come they get to interrupt me, but I can’t interrupt them!? Does a fancy crown really give ‘em that right?”
He huffs, annoyed by the idea that Royal folk get to be so obnoxious without consequences. Link can’t fathom it -- the concept that one person is above someone else just because they happened to be born into a particular family.
“That sounds stupid -- but okay, Your Majesty. I’ll try.”
Link pauses for a second, then. Another question comes to mind.
“What do Royal Girls like to talk about? I tried tellin’ ‘em once about this great big deer I hunted that day, but they seemed grossed out once I got to the part about guttin’ it.”
#thedemonkingganon#oh no he's being accidentally fathered#i'm soFT#sdlklfhkjfhkjsdf#HE HAS NO IDEA ABOUT GIRLS LMAO I'M DIE

The response wounds her, but there’s nothing she can say. Hylia shouldn’t expect him to remember. She knows this, and yet every time– seeing him is like gashing open a wound on her heart. If he only knew how close they had been.
Hylia handles her emotions with grace, however, and doesn’t let her face betray the ache that is welling in her chest. He was but a child now, but she could see traces of the small mannerisms in this boy.
She saw them in all the Links. There is small moment of silence as she gathers herself to respond, “Ah, to the White Goddess, Hylia. She was once regarded as Hyrule’s matron deity. She is the goddess from which the Royal Family descends and from which they get their powers. Worship of her has dwindled, but you can still find enclaves of followers dedicated to her here and there. She is also my namesake.”
That was a satisfactory answer, right?
“You needn’t worry. Any monsters or bandits that try to desecrate this holy place I will handle. I may not look it, but I am more than a capable fighter.”
“Well, Hylia-- If you’re out here all by yourself, I guess you gotta be!”
He perks up, then, fully believing her. Link knows how it feels to be alone and to fend for yourself -- and though his own faith in the Gods is....Well-- Tentative at best, he doesn’t fault anyone else for still believing. That sort of stuff is what keeps people going. Keeps them surviving.
Link straightens out, then, fists clenched in his excitement to find another like-minded fighter -- but he quickly doubles back down again, wincing. Crap. One of those monsters must have grazed him in his haste to escape, and he pushes his hand firm against the source of his pain.
“Oh, yeouch.”
He heaves in a long, deep breath, concerned by the damp warmth swallowing up his hand. They really got him good, huh?
“Think you could, uh, do me a favor?”
Link slings his bag off and dumps it onto the ground, a second hand moving in to join the first in applying pressure.
“There should be some dressin's and potions in there, could ya dig ‘em out for me?”
#luxaeterna#i like agony 8)))))))) i like hurting myself :))))))))) this is..... :)))))) fine!!!!!!!!!!!!#it's not fine omg Hylia my sweet sdjgfdshhskdf

He rose a brow “Depends on what the problem is.”
He was a king, royalty but he couldn’t do much outside of his own land and besides that he just met this version of Link.
“S’just about manners. You ain’t gotta do nothing.”
His hands find their way to the back of his neck as he thinks it over.
“See-- I know this Princess... Two of ‘em, actually, and I ain’t got a clue how to talk to ‘em. I’ve been left alone since I was real small, so nobody really taught me how to like... Do that stuff. Think I’m too rough for their tastes, yanno?”

“You can call me King, or his majesty then.” The crown on his head was a dead givaway that he was roylty “Or sir ”
“Yes, Sir, Your Majesty-- King-- Sir!”
Sweet, he’s never met a King before -- only the Princesses... And that has him thinking.
“Hey, uh-- Since you’re a Royal guy, mister Majesty, do you think you could help me with a problem I got?”

He is giving him a side eye “Perhaps……” Checking the kid…. The hero he knew was much much older. “Considering I know a boy named link who looks much like you….. Only far older.” Oh how he hated the goddesses time magic… And the unexpected side effects it could have.
“Same name and everythin'? Man, I didn’t know it was that common.”
He can only groan. This is giving him a bit of a headache.
“Wait-- Sorry, I should’a said. M’name’s Link too!”

That is appreciated, most others would have just thrown him if they had him that position “Yes magic can do many things….” This link looked…… Different, he didn’t recognize him.
“No shit...”
He takes the glove off, as if to make peace with the other. Link’s just a mischievous kid -- he doesn’t want a real fight to break out or anything.
“Say, mister, y’look familiar. ‘Ave we met?”

Her eyes dart to the direction from which he came. Was he hiding from something? It wasn’t uncommon for monsters to attack lone travelers this far out into the wilderness. However, Hylia knows well that monsters wouldn’t dare tread on such holy ground. They couldn’t.
“If it is a bed you seek, then you are in luck, traveler,” She offers him a smile, however, she blinks when he asks what this place is. How long had truly passed since she’d last welcomed a traveler in these halls? Apparently long enough that the Temple of Song was now forgotten.
“This was once a temple dedicated to the Goddess Hylia, traveler. However, now a days, I remain it’s only caretaker. I offer respite to weary travelers such as yourself,” Hylia explained. The Goddess had always hoped that whenever she met an incarnation of the hero there would be some part of him that remembered walking these halls with her.
But, in all the reincarnations she’s met, not one has ever remembered her. Her Link was dead and gone– she needed to quit hoping that by some miracle he would remember her.
“You may call me Hylia. I am the last priestess that remains here,” Hylia smiled once more. She was always hesitant to give people her name, but it would probably be more suspicious in this era to call herself Zelda.
“...T’who?”
Genuine confusion is written upon his features, a hand scratching at the overgrown, messy mop of hair atop his head. There have been many tales that have long since been lost to time -- and he supposes this is yet another one that he’s not heard yet.
“Sorry, I’m not very smart.”
Is that the right way to put it? Perhaps ignorant or uninformed might be a better choice of wording, but he hasn’t quite built the vocabulary to express that just yet.
Still -- the offer of a bed is one that he takes notice of. He hasn’t had a restful sleep in far too long, and he offers a concerned glance back the way he came.
“M’Link. You sure I’m not gonna bring those guys in here? I don’t normally run into people, so I don’t want to make trouble for your nice temple.”

OK BUT LEMME BE REAL FOR A SECOND ABOUT MY BABY--
His first adventure, oh my GOD. He’s just a kid at the time, only aged 10, when Impa tasks him with collecting the scattered shards of the Triforce. His world is torn apart by war, with few visible settlements left, if any remain at all. Given that he -- A TEN YEAR OLD -- managed to fight off a horde of monsters in order to help Impa, one can imagine that he’s been fending for himself in this harsh world for quite some time.
He’s nothing before he takes the role of ‘hero’ -- we can assume he’s nothing more than an orphaned kid trying his best to survive in a land plagued by cruel monsters. He’s probably a little wily and rude and doesn’t know much in the way of manners, but he’s a kid you can depend on if you need something done.
But man, that’s a lot of responsibility for one ten year old???
Then, there’s the quest to revive the sleeping Zelda -- who he doesn’t really know at all, and has been asleep long enough for her story to be legend. He’s 16, living a life where he’s hunted down for his hero status, and likely has lived that way ever since Ganon’s defeat. Towns are recovering, but there are still dead zones where you can see the scars of Ganon’s rule. Monsters still plague the lands despite his best efforts, and that must make him feel pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things.
Can you imagine that? Six damn years of constantly looking over your shoulder, unable to rest despite fighting your damn HARDEST to defeat the greatest evil there was? To have monsters looking to SPILL YOUR BLOOD over the ashes over your greatest enemy to revive him??? How do you SLEEP, boy?
I imagine, also, that his relationship with the Princesses is a pretty awkward one. Not only do TWO living Zelda’s exist in his timeline, but he’s not had much in the way of upbringing, forced to survive alone and yet they........... Are literal Royalty.
One of them (the sleeping Zelda) has separated from her family and her home and her people and has been flung into this new, scary future where everything is in ruins... And this boy -- who she doesn’t even know -- is all she’s got. Is it even fair to wake her up? He never knows. It’s bound to be uncomfortable at times, and he doesn’t know how to say or do the right things around either of the girls.
Uhhh... Typical teenage boy I guess lmao.
#can we appreciate that a 10 year old kicked ganons ass tho???? CAN WE???#no master sword available JUST GIMME SOME SHINY ARROWS THAT'LL DO IT#this boy has been through.......... A LOT.#goddesses bless him sdfkjhsdf#( OUT. )

@palaceraider
“Yeah so high up I can’t even hear you down there when I’m standing NORMALLY!” Good god there was a good chance of getting dropped like this….. Or thrown.
--Aaaand he puts him back down again. Gently does it.
“Heh! Tha’s magic for you.”
He might be an unruly and savage boy at times, but he knows better than to throw others around.

@palaceraider liked for a starter
“It’s been a long time since I’ve had a visitor in these forgotten halls. What brings you so far out into the woods, traveler?”
“Ah--”
The young man takes a moment to catch his breath again before answering, exhausted and trail-worn. It’s clear that he’s surprised to find company on his long, lonely adventures -- too used to hiding out alone in the empty shells of caves and temples and all manner of places. Perhaps, rarely, he finds a town or the few elderly folk who have been holding out in their makeshift homes, scattered about the land... But never before has he met one as radiant as she, save for perhaps the Princesses themselves. Just how far had he strayed this time?
“Shelter. Hidin’.”
He forgets his words for a moment, remembering that folk don’t oft converse in single words.
“Um. What is this place?”
