GRIMOIRE INFO & IDEAS

Grimoire / Book of Shadows

A Grimoire mostly known as Book of Shadows is basically a Witches Diary!

It holds Spells, Divination, Corespondents, your Personal notes etc.

Your Grimoire is YOURS! you make the rules, there is no certain way a Grimoire has to be written and set up!

Always make sure your Grimoire is protected and doesn’t fall into the hands of others! A protective Sigils is always good to use!

Some keep several Grimoires specific for one topic each, i.e One for Spells, one for Tarot, one for Dreams one for Recipes etc. once again your Grimoire your rules!

What to use for your Grimoire:

You can use everything from binders to composition books, you can make your own binding, even papers in a folder. However you want to keep your Grimoire is up to you. Some even keep an online and digital Grimoire on their phones and/or computers.

If you don’t want to use too many pages for one topic you can add Envelopes, Envelopes are awesome to keep Star maps, portable Divination spreads and boards and dried flowers, herbs, pictures etc.

You can keep your Grimoire simple or decorate it with symbols, drawings, washi tape, pressed flowers etc. if you mess up a page you can paint over it or glue something over it or however you’d like to fix it.

Keep and Index so you know where everything is, color coding is an awesome option too.

Long story short: what do you want to put into it? 

It is your book, to do with as you will. Put in whatever you think you will want / need to know, that reflects your style of practicing, etc. 

In a tl;dr version of all those links, and a modified version of [this post], here’s some ideas on things you can put into a grimoire (based mostly around informational purposes). 

This list is not complete / extensive / ; moreso, it has a lot of different suggestions to give you some ideas of things you can put in. 

about you as a witch

these could be in the format of journal pages

what you want out of witchcraft, information about your natal / birth chart if you like astrology, any notes of things you do day to day, etc.

terminology of terms within witchcraft and magic

spell timing, such as Sabbats and esbats, moon phases, days of the week, time of the day, etc.

correspondences for herbs, essential oils, crystals / minerals, colors, the four elements, planetary associations, etc.

substitutions for particular items like herbs, crystals, etc.

any safety precautions for working with certain herbs, crystals, etc.

information on how to determine personal correspondences and associations

magical / non-magical materials that can be used in spells

information on the “basics” of witchcraft

what intent means, and how to work with it

what it means to visualize, and alternatives if you can’t

what meditation can do for magic, and how to do it

what channeling energy means, and how to do it

what it means to charge / enchant objects, and methods to do it

setting up an altar / magical work space, and how to do it

information on any religions you work within

example: for Wicca, you may wish to write out the Wiccan Rede, how to cast a circle, how to call the four corners / elements / guardians of the watchtowers, how to set up an altar, etc.

Crystals 101 🔮✨

Crystals 101: Now presenting my compilation of crystal names, images, and basic meanings. This should be used as a basic guide for crystal magicks; symbolism used is very rudimentary and basic and I would recommend delving deeper to learn more about crystals before deciding to use them in your spells! This guide is nearly all encompassing and includes 180 stones in alphabetic order!

Something important to keep in mind is how imperative it is to find that energy connection with your crystals - some strategies include holding stones in your hand until you feel that vibrational energy, laying stones out and visualizing their auras, or collecting them in a dish and picking out the one that “feels” right.

How To Charge Crystals For Healing

Some people hang crystals in their windows to enjoy the reflections created by sunlight. Others believe crystals absorb and reflect energy and use them to create positive life changes and banish negative traits. Here’s how to charge crystals and put the energy of crystals to work for yourself or a friend. Crystal cleansing

Difficulty: Moderately Easy Instructions

1. Leave the crystal in a windowsill for a few hours to charge it with energy from the sun. Use this crystal when you want to feel restored and have better stamina.

2. Place your crystal outside or on the windowsill of an opened window when the moon is full to charge it with energies for achieving goals. If you’re ready for a fresh start or seek more of something, such as love or money, charge the crystal under a waxing moon. A waning moon will charge your crystal properly if you need less of something, such as debts or a physical ailment.

3.Gather strength to endure a crisis by burying and charging your crystal in a garden or a flowerpot filled with garden soil for a few hours. This is also a good way to charge crystals for healing when you want to get rid of negative energies, like jealousy or greed.

4.Pass a burning incense stick across your crystal to charge it for better communication skills or a deeper understanding of others. Sage, bergamot and cedar are good choices for this purpose.

Important! After charging crystals for healing and in between uses, keep the energy pure by placing them in a wrap or bag made of a soft material, like silk or satin.

The Rowan’s Cross New Year Tarot Spread.

This is a big 10 card spread, inspired by the humble Rowan Cross - an archaic symbol and charm of protection. The Rowan Cross has been used as amulet for many reasons, and in this instance, the inspiration lies in its protective abilities being upon you as you transition and grow in the coming year.

Where are you now?

Clarity on where you want to be.

What is the next step you must take?

What is stopping you from progressing?

What can be done to remove these obstacles and blockages?

What path will you begin to take once steps have been made?

Where will this path take you?

What do you need to let go to further your journey?

I don’t really know what people generally call this method of sigil making, so I’m just calling it “Letter Shaping” because you’re using the basic shapes from certain letters. This is the most common form of sigil making, and it allows the most creative influence. As you see above the sigils are for nearly the same thing, yet the sigils came out completely different. Not because the purpose was different, but because I approached them both a different creative way, and that’s what I like so much about this method. There’s a lot of freedom and personalization involved.
