i think an uncomfortable truth is that there is an inherent arrogance one has to overcome after spending too much time alone, which is not so obvious when it's forced (i.e. through ostracism) because the assumption is that someone who has been ostracized is more likely to lack confidence and thinks poorly of themselves. but then there's this dance between victimhood and low self-esteem yet also subconsciously believing that your own view or daily decisions are "correct" or "better" because you've never had anyone tell you otherwise, because you've been alone. and in addition have gotten used to being extremely independent and considering others' input doesn't even occur to you. so when others DO provide feedback, it's almost jarring, like you don't have a behavioral pathway with which to respond or receive the feedback so you just respond with irritation because your system is confused

Do we think that Diavolo really was paranoid? Like I’ve never questioned it before. I always accepted it as a fact

But last time I reread vento I thought 💭 But Diavolo wasn’t delusional! We get to see one week of his life and, in the span of it, two different unrelated groups try to kill him for their own gain. He’s completely rational in his fears!

Like wasn’t he? Why would someone even consider his desire to hide his identity as a bad thing in his situation?

Lately I thought about my recent humility. How, a couple of years ago, I was thinking (and saying) things like “Araki didn’t care about Diavolo”, “Diavolo is my character now” 😅 but now I’m just so so grateful and fully accepting

Araki saw, felt, experienced and reworked ideas that resonated and responded so strongly with my own self. If Diavolo could ever truly be “my own” character then he wouldn’t provoke such a strong response in me. Because I would already have all that I see (need) in him within myself

(I feel like it is pure chance, an almost microscopic (in a greater scheme of events) probability that Diavolo does exist just like he is! And there’s no other person but Araki who could bring him to existence… (in a sense how every piece of art can be made only by its own creator in its own time) like maybe if any other tiny detail would be different then I wouldn’t love him as much as I do! So I’m so so so lucky to be able to know him! Even to exist in the same timeframe!!!)

Right now I only have deep deep thankfulness and gratitude to Araki for creating something so important to me

I didn’t understood “gyaru ojisan” Diavolo back in 2019 btw..! But lately it makes sooo much sense

Like the way information flows and changes in general! Gals who danced the night away to the sounds of eurobeat (genre that has it’s roots in Italo-disco and was produced mostly by italians for japanese) and gals who drew vento fanart back in 1999! They all were the part of the same cross-cultural highway! Italy to Japan!

And to think that most iconic gyaru brand of that time, Alba Rosa, was inspired by “european rich resort” aesthetic… I don’t know is all connects so well in my eyes…
