tutorial idea: how to draw teeth / toothy smiles!! i think teeth are difficult for a lot of artists, esp me. im terrible with drawing smiles with teeth. So I would really appreciate if you made a tutorial for teeth! /gen /nf. Thank you.

There are four incisors (the flat ones) followed by a canine & five molars on either side

I usually group the incisons together fon a more stylised look

While smiling, the lips stretch and look thinner

Start with simple shapes and work your way up to detail!

the whole point of a zine is that it’s cheap to produce, amateur and homemade. if you’re being asked to apply to participate in a print project, it is not a zine. if the final product is being printed and bound professionally, it is not a zine. if you are being asked to enter into any kind of licensing agreement more complex than “my work can be reproduced as part of this publication” it is not a zine. nine times put of ten if the final product costs more than $5 you have left zine country. im so serious about this.

You won't reach a point where you don't need references anymore 😭

Even artists who freedraw regularly still do studies, refer to their past work, keep character sheets at hand, etc

Please don't impose that expectation on yourself just because of a live demo, tiktok, or timelapses especially

if you’re a white creator and your brown/black characters are always sassy, reckless, aggressive or cold and your white characters are always soft, demure, shy and introverted you should think about maybe why you did that

With Art Fight coming up very soon I thought I'd point out some of my personal character profile pet peeves that I see all the time. I'm not trying to call anyone out specifically, most people I've seen are guilty of at least one of these

EDIT: For the third one I mean that the thumbnail is from a completely different art piece than the main one! Like if someone has a beautifully rendered icon for the thumbnail, but when I click on it to see it full-size, it just leads to the ref, and I can't see the full art piece in the thumbnail. Hope this clears it up! Also check the reblogs for a guide I made for how to NOT make the first mistake!

why do i keep seeing whole videos on advice for artfight from “veterans” or whatever. here’s all the advice you need:

you don’t need to draw every day

you don’t need to fully render every drawing, sketches still count and the person receiving it will still love it

you don’t need a fully polished ref sheet for every single character, having a basic one or even just a colour palette along with whatever other art you’ve done works fine in most cases

you don’t need to draw a fully rendered piece every single day do not burn yourself out or injure yourself for funny little internet points good lord
